GLASGOW — Bruce L. Arvidson

HORSE CAVE — Bruce L. Arvidson, 63, of Horse Cave, died Sunday, July 25, 2010, at T.J. Samson Community Hospital in Glasgow.

He was the son of the late Ralph W. Arvidson and Virginia Brathall, of Horse Cave, who survives. He was also preceded in death by his stepfather, Laren Brathall.

Funeral services will be 10 a.m. Thursday, July 29, in the chapel of Winn Funeral Home, Horse Cave, with burial in Horse Cave Municipal Cemetery. Visitation is 5 to 8 p.m. Wednesday and after 8 a.m. Thursday at the funeral home.



Bobbie Austin

GLASGOW — Bobbie Austin, 73, of Glasgow, died Monday, July 26, 2010, at her home.  

Funeral arrangements are incomplete, but under the direction of A.F. Crow & Son Funeral Home.



Trandall Lyle Borders

GLASGOW — Trandall Lyle Borders, 48, of Glasgow, died Sunday, July 25, 2010, at Hardin Memorial Hospital in Elizabethtown as the result of a motorcycle accident Sunday in Barren County.  

He was born in Glasgow, the son of Elvin and Linda Moore Borders, of Glasgow, who survive.  Trandall was a 1979 graduate of Barren County High School, an employee of Beacon Construction Company and was a member of Beaver Creek Baptist Church.

In addition to his parents, he is survived by a son: Benjamin Borders and wife Ashley of Glasgow; a daughter: Natasha Smith and husband Christopher of Glasgow; two grandchildren: Blaine and Adison Smith; and two sisters: Michelle Ellis and husband William Jr. of Etoile, and Dana Salley and husband Rusty of Glasgow. Several aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins also survive.  

He was preceded in death by his wife, Jackie Gosnell Borders.

Funeral services will be 1 p.m. Wednesday, July 28, 2010, at A. F. Crow & Son Funeral Home with burial in Glasgow Municipal Cemetery. Visitation will begin at 3 p.m. Tuesday.

Finley Crowe

GAMALIEL — Finley Crowe, 87, of Gamaliel, died Monday, July 26, 2010, at the Monroe County Medical Center.

He was born in Monroe County on April 29, 1923, the son of the late Avery Crowe and Gustivia Kingery Crowe. He was a farmer and a veteran of the U.S. Army.

Survivors include a son: Tim Crowe of Gamaliel; two daughters: Rosie Froedge and Peggy Proffitt, both of Tompkinsville; nine grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren.

He was also preceded in death by his wife, Marjorie Howard Crowe; six brothers: Estel Crowe, McKinley Crowe, Clurie Crowe, Raymond Crowe, Jess Crowe and Oscar Crowe; and three sisters: Pauline Crowe Botts, Lura Crowe Goode and Ruby Crowe.

Funeral services will be 1 p.m. Wednesday, July 28, at Yokley-Trible Funeral Home, Tompkinsville, with Brother Gary Emberton and Brother David Summers officiating. Burial will be in Ebenezer Cemetery with military services provided by Glasgow Chapter 20 DAV. Visitation begins at 1 p.m. Tuesday, July 27, at the funeral home.



Ora Cox Denton

MONROE — Ora Cox Denton, 82, of the Monroe community, died Sunday, July 25, 2010, at the Hart County Health Care Center in Horse Cave.

She was the daughter of the late Ed Cox and Ellie Kerr Cox and wife of the late Sam Denton.

Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Wednesday, July 28, in the chapel of Winn Funeral Home, Horse Cave, with burial in Walthall Cemetery in Monroe. Visitation will be 3 to 9 p.m. Tuesday and after 8 a.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.



James S. ‘Jimmy’ Hall

GLASGOW — James S. “Jimmy” Hall, 73, of Glasgow, died Monday, July 26, 2010, at his home.  

He was born in Glasgow, the son of the late Stanley E. and Beulah Mae Winn Hall. Jimmy was a veteran, serving in the U.S. Navy and was retired from SKF in Glasgow. He was a member of Grider Memorial Baptist Church.

He is survived by his wife, Janice Garrett Hall; two sons: Tiger Hall and wife Sandy of Glasgow, and Shawn Hall and wife Jessica of Glasgow; six grandchildren: Clint and Amy Hall and Ciara, Shaine, Whitney and Raechel Hall; one sister: Sara Jo Peden and husband James of Glasgow; and several nieces and nephews.  

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister, Marjorie Jane Ralston.

 Funeral services will be 2 p.m. Thursday, July 29, at A.F. Crow & Son Funeral Home with burial in Glasgow Municipal Cemetery. Visitation will begin at 4 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.

Virginia (Boston) McCandless

LOUISVILLE — Virginia (Boston) McCandless, 86, passed away July 26, 2010.  She was the daughter of the late Paul and Bertha Boston and wife of the late Brown McCandless Jr.

Funeral services will be Thursday, July 29, at 1 p.m. at Butler Funeral Home, Edmonton, with burial in Boston Cemetery, Sulphur Well. Visitation is from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home.



Melissa Kaye Huff McCoy Vibbert

CAVE CITY — Melissa Kaye Huff McCoy Vibbert, 39, of Cave City, died Sunday, July 25, 2010, at her residence.  

She was born in Glasgow, the daughter of G.B. Huff of Glasgow and the late Jenny Goad Huff. Mrs. Vibbert was a former member of the Youth Service Center Board and member of Immanuel Baptist Church.

 In addition to her father, survivors include her husband, Charles Christopher Vibbert; two daughters: Skylar and Ryder McCoy, both of Cave City; one son: Lukas McCoy of Cave City; four sisters: Cynthia Hale of Cave City, Louise and Wilma Foster of Liberty, and Martha Chapman of Glasgow; three brothers: Randal, Mitchell and Jeff Huff of Glasgow; and two stepsons: Dustin and Cody Vibbert of Glasgow.

She was preceded in death by her first husband, Ricky McCoy.

Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Thursday, July 29, at A.F. Crow & Son Funeral Home with burial in Glasgow Municipal Cemetery. Visitation will be after 4 p.m. Wednesday.

The family requests that expressions of sympathy take the form of memorial contributions to the funeral home to help with final expenses.

OWENSBORO — Robert E. Stevens Sr., 86, of Owensboro, died Sunday, July 25, 2010, at Owensboro Medical Health System. Services are at 1 p.m. Wednesday at the chapel of James H. Davis Funeral Home & Crematory in Owensboro. Burial will be in Rosehill Cemetery with military honors by VFW Post 696. Visitation is from 2 to 8 p.m. Tuesday and after 10 a.m. Wednesday at the funeral home. Expressions of sympathy may take the form of donations to Garden Green Baptist Church, 419 Ewing Road, Owensboro, KY 42301.



GLASGOW – Ronnie Richard Taylor, 66, of Glasgow, died Saturday, July 24, 2010, at T.J. Samson Community Hospital after an extended illness. Funeral services will be 2 p.m. Tuesday at A.F. Crow & Son Funeral Home with burial in Poplar Springs Cemetery.
