Silas Lloyd Bean
BURKESVILLE – Silas Lloyd Bean, 82, died Saturday, Sept. 23, 2006, at the T.J. Samson Community Hospital in Glasgow.
He was a longtime livestock dealer in south central Kentucky.
Survivors include his wife, Hazel Scott Bean of Burkesville; one son: Lloyd Bean Jr. of Cave City; one daughter: Shirley Sells of Rickman, Tenn.; three grandchildren, four great-grandchildren, two step great-grandchildren and a host of other relatives.
Funeral services will be Tuesday at 1 p.m. at Ballou & Stotts Funeral Home, Burkesville, with burial in the Burkesville Cemetery.
Friends may call at the funeral home until time of services.
Emma Frances Edmunds Church
GLASGOW – Emma Frances Edmunds Church, 79, died Friday, Sept. 22, 2006, at her residence.
A native of Barren County, she was a daughter of the late Ray Edmunds and Josie Furlong Edmunds, who survives. She was retired from the Kentucky Department for Human Resources and is a member of the Glasgow Baptist Church.
Along with her mother, she is survived by one son: William Michael Church and wife Tonya of Hendersonville, Tenn.; one granddaughter: Emma Church of Hendersonville; one step granddaughter: Andrea Avrin of New Jersey; two sisters: Margie Kinslow and husband Earl, and Barbara Page and husband Bill, all of Glasgow; and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were today at 11 a.m. at the Hatcher & Saddler Funeral Home with burial in the Glasgow Municipal Cemetery.
Alternate expressions of sympathy may be made to the Glasgow Baptist Church Scholarship Fund, T.J. Samson Hospice or a favorite charity.
George Lee ‘Junie’ Gilliam
GLASGOW – George Lee “Junie” Gilliam, 71, died Saturday, Sept. 23, 2006, at his home.
He was born in Nashville, Tenn., and was the son of the late George and Mae Gilliam. Mr. Gilliam was a retired plumber, employed by Plumbers Local 107. Mr. Gilliam enjoyed riding horses and was an avid guitar player. He played with several country music bands around the Nashville area.
Survivors include his wife, Evna Hill Gilliam of Glasgow; two sons: Mike Gilliam and wife Trish, and Steve Gilliam and wife Jeanette, all of Louisville; two daughters: Debra Sower and husband Lee of Louisville, and Stephanie Hitzner and husband Adam of Decatur, Ill.; one brother: Roger Dyer and wife Angie of Illinois; three sisters: Edna Bagley and husband Larry of Tennessee, Linda Manuel and husband Jim of Illinois and Pam Whessinger and husband Pete of Illinois; 15 grandchildren that include Tim Guess of Glasgow; and eight great-grandchildren. Several nieces and nephews also survive.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one son, Robert Joseph Gilliam; and two brothers: Earl Patterson and Gordon Patterson.
Funeral services will be Wednesday at 11 a.m. at the A.F. Crow & Son Funeral Home with burial in the Glasgow Municipal Cemetery.
Friends may call after 10 a.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.
Sharon Nickerson Glass
RANDOLPH – Sharon Nickerson Glass, 52, of the Randolph community in Metcalfe County, died Sunday, Sept. 24, 2006, at her home.
Arrangements are incomplete, but under the direction of the McMurtrey Funeral Home.
Alvin Horton
MUNFORDVILLE – Alvin Horton, 79, died Sunday, Sept. 24, 2006, at the Hardin Memorial Hospital.
He was born in Kessinger on Nov. 2, 1926, and was a son of the late Alvin Green Horton and Julietta Guess Horton. Mr. Horton was a retired farmer and laborer for Peasley & Gaulbert Wholesalers. He was a member of the Lighthouse Full Gospel Church in Horse Cave and a U.S. Army veteran of World War II.
Survivors include three sons: Billy Horton and Joyce Avery of Kessinger, the Rev. Gary E. Horton and wife Gina of Shelbyville, and James Horton and wife Lydia of Lexington; one daughter: Pamela Horton Robinson and husband James of Westview; 12 grandchildren, 19 great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Clara L. Horton; a daughter, Becky Rowley; and eight brothers and three sisters.
Funeral services will be Wednesday at 1 p.m. at the Lighthouse Full Gospel Church in Horse Cave, with the Rev. Gary Horton and the Rev. Bobby Neal officiating. Burial will be in the Center Point Cemetery, Munfordville.
Friends may call today from 5 until 9 p.m., and on Tuesday from 9 a.m. until 9 p.m. at the Brooks Funeral Home, Munfordville; and on Wednesday from 9 a.m. until service time at the church.
Mary Anna Woodson Kinslow Houchens
GLASGOW – Mary Anna Woodson Kinslow Houchens, 74, died Saturday, Sept. 23, 2006, at the T.J. Samson Community Hospital.
She was the daughter of the late Paul Kinslow and Lottie Cash Kinslow. Mrs. Houchens was retired from T.J. Samson Community Hospital. She was a member of the South Fork Baptist Church.
She is survived by one son: Gary Houchens and wife Faye of Glasgow; one daughter: Freda Likens and husband Carlie of Glasgow; one brother: Billy Kinslow of Glasgow; ten grandchildren: Lisa Likens, Christie Likens, Bradley Likens and wife Sandy, Jason Likens, Tonya Hagan and husband John, Nick Houchens and wife Marsha, Jon Houchens and wife Manika, Mike Houchens and wife Amy, David Houchens and wife Kacie, Amanda Goodman and husband Jeremy; 12 great-grandchildren: Justin Coffey, Brittney Moore, Gage Goodman, Zander Houchens, Trevor Likens, Jordan Likens, Chaney Brock, Tyler Likens, Ashaya Likens, Autumn Dickson, Gavin Young and Makayla Hagan; also several nieces and nephews survive.
Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Hazel Houchens; and her sister, Jessie Pearl Barrick.
Funeral services will be Tuesday at 2 p.m. at the Hatcher & Saddler Funeral Home with Brother Frank Harlow and Brother Malcolm Adwell officiating. Burial will be in the Glasgow Municipal Cemetery.
Friends may call at the funeral home.

Lucy Hume
LANCASTER – Lucy Hume, 76, died Monday, Sept. 25, 2006, at her home.
She was born June 12, 1930, in Garrard County and was a daughter of the late Ernest R. Henderson and Nellie Jo Hays Henderson.
Survivors include four sons: William Thomas Hume and wife Yvonne of Lexington, Roger Hume and wife Faye of Garrard County, Mark A. Hume and wife Delena of Berea, and David Newton Hume and wife Deborah of Glasgow; three sisters: Frances Lamb and Ruth H. Mershon, both of Garrard County, and Betty Howard; and nine grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband, William Newton Hume.
Funeral arrangements are incomplete at this time, but under the direction of the Ramsey Funeral Home, Lancaster.
Mary Elizabeth Steenbergen
FREDERICKSBURG, Texas – Mary Elizabeth Steenbergen, 89, formerly of Glasgow, died Wednesday, Sept. 20, 2006, in Fredericksburg, Texas.
A native of Barren County, she was a daughter of the late Laura Susan Forster and William Thomas Berry. She was a retired warehouse manager for Texas Instruments and a member of the First Baptist Church in Fredericksburg.
Survivors include two daughters: Linda Buls and her husband, Fred, of Fredericksburg, and Joyce Craven and husband Ted of Platte City, Mo.; two sons: Alan Steenbergen and wife Sharon of Fredericksburg, and James Steenbergen and wife Carolyn of Richmond, Texas; two brothers: Ephraim Alexius Berry and wife Elise, and William Forster Berry, all of Glasgow; 12 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, James Orville Steenbergen; and one son, William Eugene Steenbergen.
Funeral services were today at 10 a.m. at the Schaetter Funeral Home in Fredericksburg. Graveside services will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at the Happy Valley Memorial Gardens in Glasgow. Local arrangements are under the direction of the Hatcher & Saddler Funeral Home.
Alternate expressions of sympathy may take the form of contributions to the Juvenile Diabetes Foundation.

GLASGOW – Betty Stephens, 64, died Sunday, Sept. 24, 2006, at the Caverna Hospital.
