GLASGOW — JoAnn Bowles, 61, died Thursday, Jan. 11, 2007, at the Kindred Hospital in Louisville. Born in Metcalfe County the daughter of the late Kenneth Bowles and Maureen Bowles. In addition to her mother Maureen Bowles she is survived by several cousins. She was preceded in death by her stepfather, Virgil Tarry.
Funeral services will be at 3 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 14, at the A.F. Crow & Son Funeral Home with burial in the Smith Cemetery. Visitation is in progress at the funeral home until time of services.
Thomas Urey Gilliland Sr.
HOPKINSVILLE — Thomas Urey Gilliland Sr., 83, died Wednesday, Jan. 10, 2007, on Gilliland Lane. He was born in Christian County on July 25, 1923, and was a farmer.
Funeral services were Saturday at 2 p.m. at the Lamb Funeral Home, Hopkinsville, with the Rev. John Segree officiating. Burial was in the Sinking Fork Baptist Church Cemetery.
He is survived by his wife, Alice (Morris) Gilliland of Hopkinsville; one son: Tim Gilliland of Hopkinsville; one daughter: Sandra (Gilliland) Heltsley of Glasgow; two sisters: Sherlene Cansler and Frances Thomas, both of Hopkinsville; 13 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Mary B. (Wright) Gilliland and Robert S. Gilliland; one son, Tommy Gilliland, and a granddaughter, Brooke Gilliland.
Expressions of sympathy may be made to the Sinking Fork Baptist Church Building fund.
Holly Jewell Holland
GAMALIEL — Holly Jewell Holland, 66, died Tuesday, Jan. 9, 2007, at his residence.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Shelvy Monroe Holland and Mildred Louise (Thomas) Holland. He is survived by his wife, Merlene (Goodman) Holland.
Services were held Friday at 1 p.m. at the Gamaliel Chapel with burial in the New Liberty Cemetery, Bugtussie Community.
Gwen Verlee (Gentry) Pruitt
TOMPKINSVILLE - Gwen Verlee (Gentry) Pruitt, 72, died Friday, Jan. 12, 2007, at Indiana University Hospital in Indianapolis, Ind.
She was preceded in death by her parents James Thomas and Rosa Ann Creek Gentry.
Services will be held Sunday at 2 p.m. at Strode Funeral Home with burial in the Bailey Cemetery, Monroe County.
Visitation was held Saturday from 3 to 9 p.m. at the Strode Funeral Home.
Bessie Franklin Shaw
DUBRE — Bessie Franklin Shaw, age 97, of Dubre, died Friday, Jan. 12 at the Cumberland County Hospital.
She was a daughter of the late Johnny Lewis and Roberta Shaw Franklin and was a member of the Marrowbone Baptist Church.
She is survived by two daughters, Hazel Huckelby and Wilma Jean Garmon, both of Dubre; one granddaughter, Carolyn Garmon and husband Rondal of Dubre; two great-grandchildren, Randy Garmon and wife Angela of Tompkinsville and Craig Garmon of Dubre; two great-great-grandchildren, Cameron Garmon and Hailee Grace Garmon; and one brother, Homer Franklin of Summer Shade.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, George Harrison Shaw; four brothers, Herbert, Elzie, Glenn and Gordon Franklin; and one sister, Clara Abney.
Funeral services will be Sunday, Jan. 14 at 2 p.m. at the Marrowbone Baptist Church with Bro. Taylor Wilson officiating followed by burial in the Marrowbone Cemetery.
Visitation will be Saturday after 3 p.m. at the McMurtrey Funeral Home and after 12:30 p.m. Sunday at the church until time for service at 2 p.m.
Amy Bennett Huff
CAVE CITY — Amy Bennett Huff, 28, passed away Thursday, Jan. 11, 2007, at her home.
She was a daughter of James and Virginia Wright Bennett and the wife of Rufus E. Huff Jr.
Funeral services will be at 1 p.m. Wednesday in the chapel of Winn Funeral Home with burial in the Cave City Cemetery.
Visitation will be after noon to 9 p.m. Monday, 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Tuesday and after 9 a.m. Wednesday.
Nellie Lois Jolly
HORSE CAVE — Nellie Lois Jolly, 82, passed away at 1:40 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 13, 2007, at T.J. Samson Community Hospital.
She was preceded in death by her parents, William Rowlett Bowman and Cora Lee Bryant Bowman.
Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Monday in the chapel of Winn Funeral Home with burial in the Horse Cave Municipal Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 5:30 to 9 p.m. Sunday and after 9 a.m. Monday at the funeral home.
Anna Pearl Groce
GLASGOW — Anna Pearl Groce, 64, died Thursday, Jan. 11, 2007, at her residence. Born in Barren County, she was the daughter of the late Ed and Stella Witcher. Mrs. Groce was a member of the Shiloh Baptist Church and an avid cook and gardner. She also was a former employee of many of the local factories, including Mallory’s, Handmachers and Carhartt.
Survivors include her children: Wayne Groce (Wilma) of Park City, Jeanette Johnson (Kenny) of Knob Lick, Thomas Groce (Peggy) of Glasgow, and Anna E. Groce of Cave City; her grandchildren: Suzie Bragg (Leslie) of Glasgow, Carl Groce (Bonnie) of Frankfort, Nickie Garmon (Steve) of Cave City, Jonetta Merritt (BJ) of Glasgow, Candy Groce of Austin, Summer and J.T. Groce of Glasgow; great-grandchildren: Alexis Bragg of Glasgow and Lilly Groce of Frankfort; special family friends: Kim Wood of Cave City and Tom Goeson of Munfordville; three sisters: Louise Houchens of Cave City, Rebecca Baine of Bonnieville, and Jewell Lindsey of Glasgow; and one brother, Edgar Witcher of Smiths Grove.
In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her husband, Perry Preston Groce; a son, John Troy Groce; and a granddaughter, Amanda Elaine Groce.
Funeral services will be at 1 p.m. Sunday at the A.F. Crow & Son Funeral Home with burial in the Happy Valley Memorial Gardens. Visitation will be after 3 p.m. Saturday at the funeral home.

TOMPKINSVILLE — Clarice Jackson died Friday, Jan. 12, 2007, at the Monroe Health Care & Rehab in Tompkinsville. She was the daughter of the late Garfield and Lonie Howard Humes and wife of the late Pal Barlow and the late Sidney Jackson.
Funeral services will be Sunday at 2 p.m. at the Yokley-Trible Funeral Home, Tompkinsville, with burial in the Ebenezer Cemetery. Visitation is in progress until time of services at the funeral home.
Mary White Jessee
EDMONTON — Mary White Jessee, 90, died Thursday, Jan. 11, 2007, at the Metcalfe County Health Care. She was the daughter of the late Luther “Boots” and Virgie Jessie Garrett.
She is survived by three sons: Pate (Patricia) White of Edmonton, Owen (Sue) White of Edmonton, and Van White of Tompkinsville; three daughters: Mildred Boston and Winnie Wallace, both of Edmonton, and Anna (Bill) Shirley of Bon Ayr; one stepdaughter: Allene Jessee Wilson of Edmonton; one sister: Dorothy Gibson; and one brother: Wayne Garrett, both of Glasgow; 39 grandchildren, 78 great-grandchildren and 46 great-great-grandchildren also survive.
Besides her parents, she is preceded in death by her first husband, Virgil White; second husband, Nile Jessee; daughter, Dixie Boston; granddaughter, Kimberly Boston; and grandson, Donald Huff.
Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Sunday at the Butler Funeral Home in Edmonton with burial in the White Cemetery.
Visitation is in progress at the funeral home until time of services.

Minnie “Peachie” Brownfield
GLASGOW — Minnie “Peachie” Brownfield died Saturday, January 13, 2007 at the T. J. Samson Community Hospital. She was the daughter of the late Curtis Greever and Gracie Dearing Cain Greever.
She is survived by her daughter: Connie Colter of Glasgow; two nephews Joe Kirn and Frankie Burks of Glasgow.
Besides her parents she was preceded in death by her husband Raymond Brownfield and two sisters: Velma Burks and Lula Belle Lyons.
Funeral will be 1:00 P.M. Monday at the Hatcher & Saddler Funeral Home with Bro. Ray Woodie officiating. Burial will be in the Glasgow Municipal Cemetery. Visitation will be after 5:00 P.M. Sunday at the funeral home.
