Harry Richard Coomer

HISEVILLE — Harry Richard Coomer, 64, died Friday, July 11, 2008, at his residence.

He was a son of the late Sarah Elizabeth Bravard Slaughter and Bill Coomer. He was an Army veteran of the Vietnam Era, a retired boilermaker, a member of the Boilermakers’ Union Local Chapter 40 in Elizabethtown, a member of the Loyal Order of Moose in Bowling Green, a member of the VFW in Rowletts, and a member of the Third Avenue Baptist Church in Louisville.

Survivors include his wife, Julia “Judy” Coomer; two sons, Barry Coomer and wife, Mary Shannon, of Hiseville; and J.W. Coomer and wife, Vivian, of Gamaliel; eight grandchildren — Broche, Morgan, Coe, Heather, Kaley, Brianna, Kaytie and Hannah; four brothers — David, Charles “Pete” and Rick Coomer, all of Kentucky, and Joe Coomer, of Indiana; three sisters — Melissa Gay and Cathy Colgate, both of Louisville; Frances Welch, of Scottsville; his stepmother, Shirley Coomer, of Louisville; and several nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one stepbrother, Anthony Brown.

Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Monday at Hatcher and Sadler Funeral Home in Glasgow. Burial with military honors will be provided by Glasgow Chapter 20 DAV at the Hiseville Cemetery. Visitation will be after 2 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.

Alternate expressions of sympathy make take the form of contributions to the American Diabetes Association or the American Cancer Society.



Raymond J. Creek Sr.

INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. — Raymond J. Creek Sr., 59, died Tuesday, July 8, 2008.

Visitation will be from 2 to 6 p.m. Sunday at Flannner and Buchanan Funeral Center, Speedway, Ind. Services will be at noon Tuesday, July 15, 2008, at Hughes Funeral Home, Fountain Run, with calling from 10 a.m. until service time. Burial will follow at Fountain Run Cemetery.



Michael Ford

TOMPKINSVILLE — Michael Ford died Wednesday, July 9, 2008, in Tompkinsville.

He was the son of Shirley Turner Ford of Tompkinsville, who survives, and the late Carl Ford. Other survivors include his wife, Amanda Ford of Tompkinsville.

Funeral services were Saturday, July 12, 2008, at the Yokley-Trible Funeral Home, with burial in the Ebenezer Cemetery.

Mary Ruthell Nave

BROWNSVILLE — Mary Ruthell Nave, 76, formerly of Bowling Green, died Thursday, July 10, 2008, at The Medical Center.

She was the daughter of the late Doug and Stella Settle Chaney and wife of Roy “Clint” Nave, who survives.

Funeral services will be Monday at 11 a.m. at Heritage Funeral Services with visitation on Sunday from 3 to 9 p.m. and Monday after 9 a.m. Cremation was chosen by the family, with burial at a later date.

Patricia Anne Paige

SUMMER SHADE — Patricia Anne Paige, 67, died Friday, July 11, 2008, at U of L Hospital in Louisville.

She was a homemaker and a daughter of the late Floyd and Mary Briggs Brewer.

She is survived by a special friend, caregiver and husband, J.M. “Red” Paige; two daughters, Julie Patrick, of Summer Shade, and Mary Runyon (Russell), of Glasgow; a son, Jimmie Paige, Summer Shade; two sisters, Carol Harmon (Dennis), of Glasgow; and Barbara Harmon, of Kansas; a brother, Floyd Brewer, of Kansas; three grandchildren: Elizabeth England, Angie Runyon and Nick Patrick; and a great-grandchild, Jada England.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a brother, John Brewer.

Funeral services will be Monday at 2:30 p.m. at the McMurtrey Funeral Home with burial in the Summer Shade Cemetery.

Visitation will begin Sunday at 1 p.m. at the funeral home.



Mary Magdalene Phelps

EDMONTON — Mary Magdalene Phelps, 82, died Thursday, July 10, 2008, at Metcalfe County Health Care in Edmonton.

She was the daughter of the late William Kelly and Eula Mae Garmon Gibson. She was a homemaker and of the Baptist faith.

Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Sunday at Butler Funeral Home with burial in the Shive Cemetery. Visitation continues after 9 a.m. Sunday at the funeral home.

She is survived by two sons: Marvin (Wilma) Phelps and Danny (Connie) Phelps, all of Edmonton; four grandchildren: Bobby (Leigh Anne) Phelps of Glasgow, Tonya (John) Caffee of Edmonton, Mary Mae and Jessica Phelps, both of Edmonton; four great-grandchildren: Allison and Jackson Caffee of Edmonton, Taylor and Maggie Phelps of Glasgow; four brothers: Albert, Lenis and Leon Gibson, all of Edmonton, Lonnie Gibson of Horse Cave; two sisters: Ruth Shive of Edmonton and Kathleen Savage of Glasgow. Several nieces and nephews also survive.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Harley Phelps; two sisters and one brother: Lonzo Gibson, Irene Fields and Christine Phelps.



George A. Pompura

BOWLING GREEN — George A. Pompura, 57, died Thursday, July 10, 2008, at Norton’s Audubon Hospital in Louisville.

He was the son of the late Carl Pompura and Irene Louise Cherney Pompura. Survivors include his wife, Ethel Martenies Pompura of Bowling Green.

Memorial services will be conducted at a later date. There will be no visitation as cremation was chosen.

Hardy & Son Funeral Home, Inc., Bowling Green, is in charge of arrangements.



Joe L. Rigdon

OAKLAND — Joe L. Rigdon, 64, died Thursday, July 10, 2008, at his residence.

He was the son of the late Ralph Rigdon and Catherine Taylor Rigdon. Survivors include his wife, Linda Payne Rigdon of Oakland.

Funeral services will be Sunday at 2 p.m. at Hardy & Son Funeral Home, Bowling Green Chapel, with burial in the Fountain Run Cemetery. Visitation continues from 9 until 2 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.



Jesse Leon Smith

MUNCIE, IND. — Jesse Leon Smith, 83, of Muncie, Ind. passed away Saturday, July 5, 2008, at Ball Memorial Hospital.

A Glasgow native, he was the son of the late Albert E. Smith and Lula Pearl Button Smith and was a member of the Eden United Church of Christ ,where served as a deacon.

He is survived by his wife, Anna Smith; two daughters, Karen Garland and husband Steve, of Muncie, and Sharon Fisher and husband Alan, of Union City, Ind. Locally he is survived by a sister, Helen Shipley, and several nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his first wife, Charlotte, and by three brothers, Robert Earl, Clifton E. and Jackie D. Smith.

Services were held Tuesday, July 7, at Parson Mortuary with burial in the Garden of Memory Cemetery in Muncie.



L.A. (Beans) Stilts

HARDYVILLE — L.A. (Beans) Stilts, 86, passed away Wednesday, July 9, 2008, at Britthaven of Bowling Green.

He was a Metcalfe County native, retired businessman, farmer, wood craftsman, a member of Shady Grove Baptist Church and an Army Air Corp veteran of World War II.

He was a son of the late Henry Worth Stilts and Lillian Mable Rock Stilts.

Survivors include his wife, Mary Redis Lile Stilts of Hardyville; a daughter: Pat Love and husband Coleman of Elizabethtown; a son: Ronnie Stilts and wife Connie of Franklin; three grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; two sisters: Mable Lile and husband James of Elizabethtown, and Diane Stilts of Louisville; one brother: Kenneth Stilts of Louisville; and several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services were Saturday, July 12, 2008, at 2 p.m. at Winn Funeral Home Chapel, Horse Cave, with burial in Houk Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, expressions of sympathy may be made to Gideons International, American Cancer Society or the Alzheimer’s Association.

David H. Waller

SMITHS GROVE — David H. Waller, 61, of Smiths Grove, died Friday, July 11, 2008, at University of Louisville Hospital in Louisville.

Born in Barren County, he was the son of Ruth Katherine Alexander Waller of Glasgow, and the late James David Waller.

He was employed by the Eaton Corporation and was retired from the Dana Corporation. He was also a member of the Hays Lodge No. 517 F&AM; and a member of the Smiths Grove United Methodist Church.

In addition to his mother, he is survived by his wife Judy Grinstead Waller; one son, John Waller (Rosie), of Glasgow; one daughter, Lacey Butcher (Aaron), Of Nashville, Tenn.; and three grandchildren — Kristina, Samantha and Victoria Waller.

In addition to his father, he was preceded in death by a daughter, Jaclyn Renea Waller.

Funeral services will be 2 p.m. Monday at A.F. Crow and Son Funeral Home in Glasgow with burial in the Old Zion Cemetery. Visitation will be after 1 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.

A Masonic service is planned for Sunday evening.
