Marga Lee Elkin

BOWLING GREEN — Marga Lee Elkin, 93, died Friday, April 10, 2009, at her residence.

She was the daughter of the late James M. Elkin and Lena H. Elkin.

Funeral services will be 1 p.m. Monday, April 13, at Hardy & Son Funeral Home, Bowling Green Chapel, with burial in Fairview Cemetery. Visitation will be from 4 until 8 p.m. Sunday and noon to 1 p.m. Monday at the funeral home.



Cephus Garmon

EDMONTON — Cephus Garmon, 99, died Thursday, April 9, 2009, at NHC Health Care in Glasgow.

He was the son of the late Samuel Crit and Millie Cawthorn Garmon. He was a retired farmer and member of Red Lick United Brethren Church.

Funeral services will be 2 p.m. Sunday at Butler Funeral Home in Edmonton with burial in Jessee Cemetery. Visitation continues after 9 a.m. Sunday at the funeral home.

He is survived by three daughters: Vanglean (Freeman) Sexton of Edmonton, Vada Sexton of Cave City and Alyne (Ancel) Froedge of Edmonton; nine grandchildren: Wayne Sexton of Cave City, Jerry (Darlene) Sexton of Cave City, Darrell (Wanda) Sexton of Prestonsburg, Diane (Doug) Gaines of Tennessee, Elaine (Brett) Thompson of LeGrande, Mike (Michelle) Froedge of Edmonton, Charles Froedge of Glasgow, Shirley (Jackie) Napier of Glasgow and Rita (Timothy) England of Glasgow. Several great- and great-great-grandchildren also survive.

Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Ivera Elzada Hagan Garmon; one daughter, Vanetta Brown; and several brothers and sisters.

Ricky Stephen Karnes

LEITCHFIELD — Ricky Stephen Karnes, 54, passed away Monday, April 6, 2009, at the University of Louisville Hospital.

He was born May 25, 1954, in Glasgow.

A memorial service will be 1 p.m. Saturday, April 18, at The Church of God of Prophecy, Leitchfield, where he attended.

He is survived by his parents, James “Jimmy” Karnes and Gladys Young; stepmom, Francis Karnes; three children: Richard Karnes, Robert Karnes and Kelsey Karnes; six grandchildren; two brothers: Donald “Danny” Karnes (Betty), Kenneth “Cornbread” Karnes (Sharon); one sister: Theresa Hunt; several nieces and nephews; and fiancee, Marsha Langdon.



Marvin W. Pedigo

GLASGOW — Marvin W. Pedigo, 77, died Thursday, April 9, 2009, at T.J. Samson Community Hospital.

He was the son of the late Clarence and Roxie Hurt Pedigo.

He is survived by his wife, Nettie Ruth Shockley Pedigo; one son: Jessie Pedigo and his wife Debra; two daughters: Linda Saltsman and her husband Jimmy, and Rita Thomas; nine grandchildren: Scottie Pedigo, Tony Pedigo, Brian Pedigo, Kevin Pedigo, David Harrod, Steven Pedigo, Jeremy Thomas, Lori Posey and Christa Thomas; 14 great-grandchildren; one brother: Raymond Pedigo and his wife Linda; two sisters: Audrey Perkins and Helen Lawson and her husband Henry.

Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers: Ray Pedigo and Vernon Pedigo; and one sister: Christine Medley.

Funeral will be 2 p.m. Sunday at Hatcher & Saddler Funeral Home with burial in Pleasant Hill Cemetery in Randolph. Visitation is in progress at the funeral home.

Peggy Sue Rich

TOMPKINSVILLE — Peggy Sue Rich, 61, died Thursday, April 9, 2009, at her home.

She was the daughter of the late Charles Coleman and Jane Nelson Coleman and wife of the late J.D. Rich.

Cremation was chosen. Yokley-Trible Funeral Home, Tompkinsville, was in charge of arrangements.



Rex Rich

MUNFORDVILLE — Rex Rich, 91, of Mammoth Cave, died at 2:09 p.m. Friday, April 10, 2009 at the Twin Lakes Regional Medical Center in Leitchfield. He was a son of the late Frank and Annie Meredith Rich and the husband of the late Roby Burba Rich. Mr. Rich was a retired farmer, a former employee with the State Highway Department of Edmonson County. He served in the CC Camp during President Roosevelt’s era and was a member of the Cub Run Masonic Lodge.

He is survived by a son, Douglas Paul Rich and wife Vennie of Mammoth Cave; two daughters, Joyce Gonterman and husband Ron of Cub Run, and Janice Stocking and husband Jim of Henderson; two brothers, Nathan Rich of Louisville, and Noel Rich of Mammoth Cave; a sister, Sybil Barclay of Louisville; three grandchildren: Paul Michael Rich, Jennifer Lucas and Jama Stocking; two great-grandchildren, Allison and Ava Lucas. He was preceded in death by an infant daughter, Anna Mae Rich; two brothers, Fred and Chasteen Rich; and two sisters, Edna Smith and Pauline Sanders.

Funeral services for Rex Rich will be 1 p.m. Monday, in the chapel of Sego Funeral Home with Brother Keith Sanders officiating. Burial will be in the Union Light Cemetery. Visitation will be Sunday, April 12, 2009, from noon to 9 p.m. and after 8 a.m. Monday, April 13, 2009, at the funeral home. Masonic services will be at 5:30 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home. In memory of Mr. Rich, the family request that memorial donations be made to the Union Light Cemetery Fund.



Callie Elizabeth Church Riley

GLASGOW — Callie Elizabeth Church Riley, 89, of Glasgow, died Friday, April 10, 2009 at the T. J. Samson Community Hospital in Glasgow. She was born in Barren County, the daughter of the late John M. and Louisa Pitcock Church. Mrs. Riley was married to the late D.C. Riley and they had made their home in Bowling Green for over 30 years until Mr. Riley's death. She was a former employee of Kentucky Pants Company in Glasgow and Derby Underwear Company in Bowling Green and was a member of the Glasgow Baptist Church.

She is survived by one daughter, Barbara Ann Riley Lyon and husband Glen of Glasgow; three grandchildren: Richard Glen Lyon, Jr. of Glasgow, Karen Elaine Lyon Hamilton and husband Gerry of Lexington and James Kirtley Lyon and wife Gina of Cave City; two great-grandsons, William Jacob Hamilton and Hunter Lyon Hamilton of Lexington and several nieces and nephews including three whom she helped to raise, Leslie Bryant Settle of Bowling Green, Larry Albert Settle of Glasgow and Patricia Gayle Billingsley of Glasgow. She was preceded in death by three sisters, Emma Stuart, Mamie Jewell Folks and Margaret Settle.

Funeral services will be 1 p.m. Monday at the A. F. Crow & Son Funeral Home with burial in the Glasgow Municipal Cemetery. Visitation will begin at 3 p.m. on Sunday at the funeral home.

George Fred Stilts



GLASGOW — George Fred Stilts, 66, Glasgow, died Friday, April 10, 2009, at his residence. He was born in Cumberland County in 1942 to the late James Smith Stilts and Mary Rose Stilts. He was a former employee of Scotty’s Contracting Stone.

Survivors include his wife, Ann Stilts; one son, Andre Stilts of Tompkinsville; one step-son, Derek Byrd of Bristol, CT; one step-daughter, Kacie Byrd of Glasgow; four grandchildren, Kelly Hewett and Logan Stilts of Scottsville, Dustin and Cody Stilts of Tompkinsville; one step-grandchild, Trenton Shipp of Glasgow; two great-grandchildren, Hunter Hewett and Conner Stilts of Scottsville; three sisters: Charlotte Gilbert of Burkesville, Karon Coomer and Myra Norris of Marrowbone; two brothers, Danny Stilts of Glasgow and Anthony Stilts of Bowling Green.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his first wife, Shirley Stilts and one brother, James Robert Stilts.

Funeral services will be held 3 p.m. Tuesday at the Hatcher & Saddler Funeral Home with burial in the Happy Valley Memorial Gardens. Friends may call after 11 a.m. Monday at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, expressions of sympathy can be made to the Glenview Christian Church Building Fund, 1403 Glenview Drive, Glasgow, KY 42141.
