Dorothy Gossett

CAVE CITY — Dorothy Gossett, 84, went home to be with her Lord and Savior on Wednesday, April 15, 2009.

She was born on Feb. 21, 1925, in Springfield, Ill., to the late George and Annie Riley Long.

Mrs. Gossett was a Sunday School teacher and faithful member of New Hope Missionary Baptist Church since she joined the church in 1948. Along with her husband, Ray, they have owned and operated numerous businesses, including Watermill Restaurant. She was a member of the B&PW; Club, sewing club and an avid quilt maker and artist.

She was a beloved wife, loving mother, grandmother and great-grandmother.

Survivors include her husband, Ray Gossett, Cave City; children: Joyce (Larry) Gibbons, Denis Gossett, Melissa Hester (Alan) Eubank, Rickey (Tammy) Gossett; grandchildren: Jimmy (Tonya) Pedigo, Chris Gibbons, Jennifer (Micah) London, Joni (Chris) Payne, Emily McDonald, Devon Gossett, Jessica Eubank, Amy Eubank, Hunter Hester, Ethan Gossett, Kiley Gossett; great-grandchildren: Bekka, Shay, Lacey, Bethany, Cheyenne and Courtney Pedigo, Jordon Slagle, Kaci Clines, Drake and Alyssa Gibbons, Cody London, Tristan and Ashley Payne; sisters: Alma White, Marie Price, Lucille Johnson, Maedell Glascock; brother: Keith Long; and numerous nieces, nephews and friends.

Funeral services with the Rev. Otis Sturgeon officiating will be at 11 a.m., Saturday, April 18, 2009, at New Hope Missionary Baptist Church with burial in Cave City Cemetery. Visitation at Bob Hunt Funeral Chapel, Cave City, will be after 1 p.m. Thursday. The body will be moved to the church Saturday for visitation after 9 a.m. until time of services.

Frances Proffitt

TOMPKINSVILLE — Frances Proffitt, 98, died Wednesday, April 15, 2009, at her home.

She was the daughter of the late Felin Thomas and Mattie Whitehead Thomas and wife of the late Robert Proffitt.

Survivors include a brother, Tom Thomas of Tompkinsville; and two sisters: Laura Birge and Dorothy Proffitt, both of Tompkinsville.

Funeral services will be 2 p.m. Friday, April 17, 2009, at Yokley-Trible Funeral Home, Tompkinsville, with burial in Monroe County Memorial Lawn. Visitation begins today (Thursday) at 5 p.m. at the funeral home.



Rev. Henry H. Harriford

SMITHS GROVE — The Rev. Henry H. Harriford, 79, died Tuesday, April 14, 2009, at The Medical Center at Bowling Green.

He was born in Monroe County, the son of the late Welby and Grace Grinstead Harriford. Rev. Harriford was a minister, a farmer and a retired school bus driver with the Warren County schools. He professed a hope in Christ at an early age at the Summer Shade Baptist Church where he was later ordained as a deacon in 1951. He later relocated to Warren County choosing Mount Union Baptist Church as the place of worship for his family as well as continuing his role as a deacon. He accepted the call to the ministry in 1973 and was the pastor for Pleasant Union Baptist Church and the Waterview Baptist Church. He was also past president of the Liberty District Ministers Council, treasurer of the Ministers, Deacons and Layman Council and is a past president of the Eastern Branch Missionary Sunday School Convention.

He is survived by his wife of 59 years, Elnora Curd Harriford; 10 children: Gary Harriford (Bea) of Severn, Md., Sherry Mansfield (Dwayne) of Glasgow, Marcia Irvin (Sanford) of Bowling Green, Douglas Harriford (Jeanette) of Jacksonville, Fla., Deborah Harris of Bowling Green, Vanessa Terry (Henry) of Cape Girardeau, Mo., Bonita Williams (Tony) of Louisville, Tamara Malone (Rick) of Smiths Grove, Lisa Yates of Bowling Green and Kimberly Harriford of Frankfort; 36 grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren; two sisters: Katherine Howard of Las Vegas, Nev., and Wilma Pettigrew (Reece) of Indianapolis, Ind.; two brothers: William Harriford (Mary) of Flint, Mich., and Robert Harriford (Nora) of Paducah; and several nieces, nephews, friends and neighbors.

Funeral services will be 2 p.m. Saturday, April 18, 2009, at Owens Chapel Baptist Church with burial in Barber Cemetery. Visitation will be at A.F. Crow & Son Funeral Home on Friday from 4 until 9 p.m. and on Saturday at the church from 10 a.m. until time for the services.

Philip N. Unser

HISEVILLE — Philip N. Unser, 63, died Tuesday, April 14, 2009, at The Medical Center at Bowling Green.

A native of Louisville, he was a son of the late Joseph and Dorothy McClellan Unser. He was a retired employee of International Harvester and of Lowe’s of Glasgow. He was a member of the Hiseville Masonic Lodge and was of the Catholic faith.

Survivors include his wife, Doris Unser; three brothers, Denny Unser, Mike Unser and George Unser; three sisters, Maritia Wise, Shirley Irland and Martha Rogers.

He was preceded in death by one sister, Diane Moran.

Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Friday, April 17, 2009, at Hatcher & Saddler Funeral Home with burial in Hiseville Cemetery. Friends may call after noon Thursday at the funeral home. Masonic services will be 7 p.m. today (Thursday) at the funeral home.

GLASGOW — Elmer Eugene Wheet, 78, died Thursday, April 16, 2009, at T.J. Samson Community Hospital.

MOUNT STERLING — Marjory Ann Pieplow, 61, died Monday, April 13, 2009, at her residence. Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Friday at A.F. Crow & Son Funeral Home with burial in Glasgow Municipal Cemetery. Visitation will be after 4 p.m. today (Thursday) at the funeral home.



GLASGOW — Margaret Nell Starr, 96, died Sunday, April 12, 2009, at T.J. Samson Community Hospital in Glasgow. Funeral services will be 2:30 p.m. today (Thursday) at Hatcher & Saddler Funeral Home with burial in Glasgow Municipal Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Dr. Charles Stanley’s In Touch Ministries or the Glasgow Baptist Church.
