Retired Maj. Gen. Robert L. DeZarn

STANFORD – Retired Major General Robert L. DeZarn, 75, of Stanford, formerly of Richmond, Ashland and Lawrenceburg, passed away on Thursday, May 28, 2009, at the Golden Living Center in Stanford.

Born Tuesday, June 27, 1933, to the late Robert C. and Alma Smyth DeZarn, he was a former shipping foreman of Armco Steel with over 34 years of service to the company. Robert enlisted in the Kentucky Army National Guard in 1953, entering as a Private and retiring as the Adjutant General of the Kentucky National Guard with more than 42 years of service to state and nation. He served his country as First Lieutenant, U.S. Army, 2nd Battalion, 14th Armored Cavalry Regiment in the Federal Republic of Germany from 1955-1957. A graduate of Eastern Kentucky University with a B.S. degree in Commerce. Robert was a member of the National Guard Association of Kentucky, National Rifle Association and the American Legion Post #34, Lawrenceburg.

Robert leaves behind his wife, Juliane Wiedekamp DeZarn of Stanford; their children, Debra Lynn DeZarn and her partner Carol-Ann Smith and her son James-Michael Smith of Maryland, William Robert DeZarn “Bill” and his wife Cindy of Cincinnati, Ohio, their children, Jenny and Chris DeZarn, Angela D. Todd and her husband Jason of Stanford.

An Appreciation of Life Service will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday, June 2, 2009, at Fox Funeral Home with Rev. Richard Reed, Chaplain (LTC) David Graetz and Chaplain (CPT) William Draper officiating. Burial will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday, June 3, 2009, at College Hill Methodist Cemetery in Waco with Rev. Che Haselwood, Chaplain (LTC) David Graetz and Chaplain (CPT) William Draper officiating with full military honors by the Kentucky National Guard. Visitation will be at Fox Funeral Home on Monday, June 1, 2009, after 5 p.m.

GLASGOW — Paul Geralds, 81, of Glasgow, died Sunday, May 30, 2009, at T.J. Samson Community Hospital in Glasgow. Funeral arrangements are incomplete and will be announced later by A.F. Crow & Son Funeral Home.



Maxine Hagan

KNOXVILLE, Tenn. – Maxine Hagan, 83, passed away Thursday, May 28, 2009, at Fort Sanders-Loudon Medical Center.

Preceded in death by her husband of 53 years, Rev. Dillard Hagan of Athens, Tenn.; mother, Louise Elizabeth Wheeler, and father, John Britt of Glasgow; brothers, Jack, Trulon, Reid, Albert and John C. Britt of Glasgow; sisters, Dinah and Flossie Burd, both of Glasgow.

Beloved mother leaves daughter, Elizabeth Hagan, of Lenoir City, Tenn., and son, David, and Sue Hagan of Chattanooga, Tenn.; granddaughters, Beth Hagan and Jeff and Brittany Eastridge of Chattanooga, Tenn.; brothers, Rev. Gerald and Madge Britt and Robert and Laverne Britt of Glasgow. She was exceptionally close to her sister-in-law, Jane Britt, and niece, Nina Price of Glasgow; many nieces and nephews.

Family will receive friends at Lynnhurst-Greenwood Chapel, Sunday, May 31, from 1 p.m. until the 3 p.m. funeral with Dr. Clarence Sexton and Rev. Gary King officiating. GLASGOW – Larence E. Hunt, 77, of Glasgow died Saturday, May 30, 2009, at the Barren County Health Care Facility in Glasgow. His arrangements are incomplete, but are under the direction of the A.F. Crow & Son Funeral Home.



Cecil Lenford Martin

GLASGOW – Cecil Lenford Martin, 75, of Glasgow, died Friday, May 29, 2009, at the T.J. Samson Community Hospital.

He was a retired manager of the Publication Room at R.R. Donnelley & Sons and a member of the Church of Christ in Nashville. He was a United States Air Force veteran of the Korean Conflict era.

Survivors include his wife, Ruth Corine Martin; one daughter, Vanessa Abidoye and husband, Emmanuel, of Marietta, Ga.; one grandson, Cecil J. Abidoye of Marietta; one step-granddaughter, Elizabeth Abidoye; one sister, Agatha Sublett and husband, Edward, of Glasgow; several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his mother, Effie Martin; his foster parents, Annie and Doc Martin; and one sister, Olene Martin Roundtree.

Funeral services will be 2 p.m. Monday, June 1, 2009, at the Hatcher & Saddler Funeral Home with burial in the Happy Valley Memorial Gardens. Military honors will be provided by the Glasgow Chapter 20 DAV. Visitation will be after noon Monday at the funeral home.



Wayne E. ‘Rut’ Rutledge

TOMPKINSVILLE – Wayne E. “Rut” Rutledge, 67, of Tompkinsville, passed away Tuesday, May 26, 2009, at Iroquois Memorial Hospital in Watseke, Ill.

He was born on June 15, 1941, in Danville, Ill., to Jack and Rene Griffith Rutledge and was raised by John and Audrey Killion.

Wayne served in the U.S. Army. He married Elizabeth Cannon on May 8, 2000, in Tompkinsville. He was previously employed at Uarco and was a bus driver for 13 years, member of Danville Community Action and enjoyed flea markets, auctions, fishing and farming.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Jack and Rene Griffith Rutledge; one brother, Richard Rutledge; one sister, Margaret Rutledge; and one foster brother, Bill Killion.

Wayne is survived by his wife, Elizabeth “Liz” Cannon Rutledge; three stepdaughters and sons-in-law, Lisa and Mark Tobey, Tonya and Paul Gouty and Shannon and Paul Lynn Jones; eight grandchildren, all of Tompkinsville; one brother, Larry Joe Rutledge of Hoopeston, Ill.; three sisters, Karen Hurt, Cindy and Don Clyden and Erma and Jr. Hurt, all of Hoopeston, Ill.; and one foster brother, Bob Killion of Cissna Park, Ill.

Visitation was from 4 to 8 p.m. Thursday, May 28, 2009, at the Knapp Funeral Home in Milford, Ill. A funeral service was Friday, May 29, 2009, at 10 a.m. at Knapp Funeral Home with Rev. Neil Larimore and Rev. Brent Zastrow officiating.

Visitation will be after 4 p.m. Sunday, May 31, 2009, at the Yokley-Trible Funeral Home. Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Monday, June 1, 2009, at Yokley-Trible Funeral Home with Brother Jason Page officiating. Burial will be in the Pleasant Hill Cemetery with military rites by the D.A.V. Glasgow Chapter 20.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Pleasant Hill Cemetery.



Rodney Kyle Ward

GLASGOW – Rodney Kyle Ward, 67, of Glasgow, died Friday May 29, 2009, at his home.

Born in Barren County, he was the son of the late Otto Artumas Ward and the late Sallie C. Perkins Ward. He was a Temple Hill High School “Class of 1959” graduate, a lifetime farmer and was a charter member of Bethany Baptist Church, attended Grace Baptist Church and was a faithful listener to Garce Baptist CD Ministry.

Survivors include his wife of 47 years, Thelma Bush Ward of Glasgow; three daughters, Sherry Jo Garmon (Tim), Kellie McCoy (Jason) and Kimberly Dean (Grover), all of Glasgow; eight grandchildren, LaShea Fauber (Brian), Kyle Garmon, Brandi Lile (Derek), Cheyanne Kingrey, Morganne Whitley (Daniel), Luke Dean, Hannah and Dallen McCoy, all of Glasgow; one great-grandchild, Makenzie Fauber and two great-grandchildren on the way; two brothers, Reginald Ward (Grace) and Ronald Ward (Shirley), both of Glasgow; mother-in-law Kathleen Bush of Glasgow; and several nieces and nephews also survive.

Funeral services will be 2 p.m. Monday, June 1, 2009, at A.F. Crow & Son Funeral Home with burial in the Bowles Cemetery. Visitation will be after 4 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.

Stanley A. Wilkinson

GLASGOW — Stanley A. Wilkinson, 78, died Thursday, May 28, 2009, at T.J. Samson Community Hospital.

He was born in Barren County, the son of the late Lee Alexander Wilkinson and Lou Addie Piercy Wilkinson. Mr. Wilkinson was a 1949 graduate of Glasgow High School and served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War. He was the senior executive vice president of Citizens National Bank and Trust Co. which later became Transfinancial Bank and now US Bank. After 38 years of service, he retired from Transfinancial Bank in 1987 and continued to serve on their board of directors until 1998. He was also the owner and operator of Barren River State Park Marina from 1984-92. Stanley was a member of Glasgow Baptist Church, Glasgow Lions Club and served as a councilman for Glasgow City Council and was a former Barren County treasurer.

He is survived by his wife, Mary; a daughter: Sheryl Wilkinson of Glasgow; a son: Randy Wilkinson and his wife, Yvonne, of Glasgow; two grandchildren: Kristen Haley and Kole Wilkinson of Glasgow; one sister: Opal Huffman and husband, Jess, of Clarksville, Ind.; nephews: Gary Broady and wife, Gail, of Franklin, and Mike Huffman and wife, Sherry, of Hebron; nieces: Jessica Conner and husband, Jerry, of Jeffersonville, Ind., and Joy Carpenter and husband, Craig, of Sellersberg, Ind.; and several great-nieces and nephews. He is also survived by his caregivers: Kathy Morris, Jonathan Minor and Valerie Rogers.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, James Wilkinson (Frauline); a sister, Addie Broady (Lawrence); and two nephews, Leland and Jimmy Wilkinson.

Funeral services will be 3 p.m. Sunday, May 31, 2009, at A.F. Crow & Son Funeral Home with burial in Glasgow Municipal Cemetery. Visitation will be Saturday from 4:30 until 8 p.m. and continue on Sunday from 10 a.m. until time for the service.
