Mary Frances Birge
SUMMER SHADE — Mary Frances Birge, 82, died Saturday, May 30, 2009, at Norton’s Hospital in Louisville.
She was a homemaker and a daughter of the late William Hobart and Mattie Coop Branham. She was a member of Union No. 2 Missionary Baptist Church.
She is survived by five daughters: Mary Sue (Wade) Brown of Edmonton, Fay (William) White of Summer Shade, Linda (Tim) Sanders of Bowling Green, Barbara Brown of Glasgow and Livvie Cawthorn of Summer Shade; three sons: Harold (Patricia) Stilts, Ike (Debbie) Stilts and Tim Birge, all of Summer Shade; two step-sons: Ronnie and Jerry Birge of Glasgow; 13 grandchildren, 11 step-grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren; and one sister: Betty Wright of Burkesville.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Quentin Birge; sisters: Maddie Anderson, Helen Corbin, Jeanette Stuart, and Dorothy Riley; one brother: Dudley Branham; and one grandson, Scotty Martin.
Funeral services will be Tuesday, June 2, at 2 p.m. at White Cemetery Chapel with burial in the White Cemetery. Visitation will begin today (Monday) at 2 p.m. at McMurtrey Funeral Home, Summer Shade, and after noon Tuesday at the chapel until time for the funeral.
Hattie Lee Bailey Hansford
EAST ELMHURST, QUEENS, New York — Hattie Lee Bailey Hansford, 68, died Tuesday, May 26, 2009, in East Elmhurst, New York, after a brief illness.
She was born Sept. 21, 1940, in Glasgow, to the late Edgar Lee Bailey and Nora Lee Boles Bailey. Mrs. Hansford graduated from Ralph Bunche School in Glasgow. She was a member of First Baptist Church through her childhood. She worked as a registered nurse, nursing head supervisor and case worker at a hospital in East Elmhurst.
In addition to her parents, one brother, Roger Bailey, preceded her in death.
Survivors include three daughters: Elaine (Charles) Huddleston and Cynthia Gibbs of Louisville, Donna (Tonye) Whyte, East Elmhurst, New York; one son: Ronnie Hansford, East Elmhurst, New York; one sister: Janet Bailey Page (special friend, Thomas Porter), Louisville; five brothers: Winston (Charlene) Bailey, Ronald (Diane) Bailey, Jimmy (Lisa) Bailey, all of Glasgow, Fred (Francis) Bailey, Oakland, Rex (Sandra) Bailey, Louisville; one sister-in-law: Betty Bailey, Glasgow; eight grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews and other relatives.
Funeral services will be 1 p.m. Wednesday, June 3, at First Baptist Church with burial in Barlow Cemetery. Visitation will be from 11 a.m. until 1 p.m. at the church.
Larence E. Hunt
GLASGOW — Larence E. Hunt, 77, formerly of Lamb, died Saturday, May 30, 2009, at Barren County Health Care Facility in Glasgow.
He was born in Monroe County, the son of the late William D. “Jack” Hunt and Mona Arterburn Hunt. He was a veteran of the Korean War, retired from Jeffboat Co. in Louisville and also a farmer. Mr. Hunt was a member of the East Main Street Church of Christ and Temple Hill Lions Club.
He is survived by his wife, Margaret Berryman Hunt; three sons: Bruce Hunt (Jan) of Lamb, Ervin Hunt (Sheila) of Louisville and Ricky Hunt (Melissa) of Meringo, Ind.; one step-daughter: Vicki Berryman Pirtle of Smiths Grove; one step-son: Tim Berryman of Glasgow; six grandchildren: Brucie Hunt Jr., Natasha Hunt Wilson, Jeremy Hunt, Andy Hunt, Tianna Hunt and Teresa Turngate; four step-grandchildren: Tracie Ross, Christa Berryman Hess, Austin Berryman and Ashley Dunn; two great-granddaughters: Emily and Carla Turngate; one sister: Katherine Arden of Glasgow; four brothers: Ray Hunt (Willie Mae) of Louisville, Ernest Hunt (Jane) of Glasgow, Burl Hunt of Glasgow and Carlos Hunt (Delcie) of Indianapolis, Ind.; two sisters-in-law: Pearline Hunt of Bowling Green and Loretta Hunt of Glasgow. Several cousins, nephews and friends also survive.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his first wife, Helen Crabtree Hunt; his twin brother: Clarence “Cotton” Hunt; a brother: Fay Hunt; and a sister-in-law: Ruth Hunt.
Funeral services will be 2 p.m. Tuesday, June 2, 2009, at A.F. Crow & Son Funeral Home with burial in Poplar Log Cemetery. Visitation will begin at 4:30 p.m. today (Monday) at the funeral home.

Ruth Aline Norris
GLASGOW — Ruth Aline Norris, 96, died Sunday, May 31, 2009, at Barren County Health Care Facility.
She was born in Barren County, the daughter of the late Orien and Virgie Bunch Glass. She was a member of Glasgow Cumberland Presbyterian Church and a former member of Lick Branch Cumberland Presbyterian Church where she taught Sunday school and sang in the choir for many years. She was an avid quilter and loved cooking for her family and friends. She was married to Jackson Alexander Norris on Jan. 14, 1933. He preceded her in death on Dec. 17, 1974.
She was the beloved mother of three daughters: Doris Wells (Tommy), Margaret Downing Brown (Okley) and Gladys Craig, all of Glasgow; one son: Freddie Norris (Loretta) of Glasgow; beloved grandmother of 13 grandchildren: Donald Downing, Melanie Norman (Gary), Vanessa Wells Gray (Franklin), Trina Wyatt (Ricky), Andy Wells (Stacey Shipley-Wells), Schellye Gentry (Paul), Amy Bellamy (Tracy), Rodney Norris (Amanda), Brian Craig, Kevin Craig (Carol), Douglas Brown (Dorothy), Rick J. Brown (Jane) and Matthew Brown (Heather); 25 great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren; two brothers: Hurshel Glass (Ruth) and Kenneth Glass (Joyce), and one sister-in-law: Norma Glass Williams, all of Glasgow, and several nieces, nephews and many friends.
In addition to her parents and husband, she is preceded in death by sisters: Louise Broady (Earl), Christine Glass, Iva Mae Glass; brothers: Avilee Glass (Wilma), Hubert Glass and Herman Glass; and one great-grandson, Joshua Gentry.
Funeral services will be 2 p.m. Wednesday, June 3, 2009, at A.F. Crow & Son Funeral Home with burial in Lick Branch Cemetery. Visitation will be after 5 p.m. Tuesday and on Wednesday from 10 a.m. until time for the service.
