I.C. ‘Curt’ Harris

GLASGOW — I. C. “Curt” Harris, 84, died Thursday, June 4, 2009, at his residence.

A son of the late Sally Florence Compton and Ira Lee Harris, he was a retired salesman and a U.S. Army Veteran of World War II.

Survivors include his wife, Frances; three children: Ronnie Harris and wife, Saundra, and Debbie Chaney, all of Glasgow, Ricky Harris of Lexington; eight grandchildren: Stacy Mills and Jamie Harris of Glasgow, Andy Mills (Marilyn), Hayley Harris and Lynsay Harris, of Lexington, Stephanie Harris Jarvis (Jason) of Zion, Ill., David Harris (Jennifer) of Palmdale, Calif., and Kathy Mills of Savannah, Tenn.; eight great-grandchildren: Evan Jarvis, Lexi Mills, Hadley Harris, Briggs Harris, Vincent Harris, Nicholas Harris, Sophia Harris and Isabelle Harris; one sister: Dorothy Shirley of Greensburg; several nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by seven brothers and sisters.

Funeral services will be 2 p.m. Saturday at Hatcher & Saddler Funeral Home with burial in Glasgow Municipal Cemetery. Military honors will be provided by Glasgow Chapter 20 DAV. Friends may call after 3 p.m. today (Friday) at the funeral home.

Alternate expressions of sympathy may take the form of contributions to Kosair Charities.

James J.T. Hawkins

LOUISVILLE — James J.T. Hawkins, 73, died Tuesday, June 2, 2009, at University of Louisville Hospital.

He was the son of the late Eddie Haskins and the late Mamie Haskins. Survivors include his wife, Diane Haskins, of Louisville.

Funeral services will be 1 p.m. Saturday at Bearwallow Baptist Church, Horse Cave, with burial in Bearwallow Cemetery. Visitation will be today (Friday) from 6 to 9 p.m. at Brooks Funeral Home, Munfordville, and from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday at the church.



Vivian McGaghie

CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. — Vivian McGaghie, 89, passed away on March 15, 2009.

Vivian was born in Chicago, Ill., where she married William McGaghie and raised three children. She moved to Glasgow, Ky., in 1975, and then to Chattanooga in 1997.

She was active in her children’s PTA through their school years and was very involved in her church, the First Presbyterian Church of Glasgow, where she served as an elder. After moving to Chattanooga, she joined St. Alban’s Episcopal Church and created her own ministry of driving people who were unable to drive themselves. She loved knitting and crocheting and donated many beautiful pieces to St. Alban’s. Vivian loved playing bridge, telling stories and socializing. She was a strong woman who bore a severe hearing loss and physical pain with grace.

She is preceded in death by her husband of 52 years, William McGaghie; her parents, Wilhelm and Christine Skoglund; her brothers, Stanley and Floyd Skoglund; and her sister, Evelyn Ulrich.

She is survived by her daughter, Susan Scott and her husband, Ed, of Chattanooga; her son, William McGaghie and his wife, Pam, of Evanston, Ill.; her son, Thomas McGaghie of Grants, N.M.; four grandchildren: Maggie Scott Greenfield (Jeremy Greenfield), Jennifer Scott (Craig Syndal), Kathleen McGaghie and Michael McGaghie; three great-grandchildren: Oliver and Stella Syndal and Alma Greenfield.

Funeral services were held on March 19 at St. Alban’s Episcopal Church with the Rev. Julie Anna Johnson officiating. Burial is at Cedar Park Cemetery in Chicago, Ill.

In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to the Opportunity Fund of St. Alban’s Episcopal Church.



Larry Wayne Poynter

CAVE CITY — Larry Wayne Poynter, 50, passed away Thursday, June 4, 2009, at T.J. Samson Community Hospital, Glasgow.

Survivors include his mother, Edith Poynter; and a brother, J.R. Poynter.

Funeral services, under the direction of Bob Hunt Funeral Chapel, Cave City, are incomplete.



Olene Adair Shirrell

KNOB LICK — Olene Adair Shirrell, 69, died Wednesday, June 3, 2009, at Metcalfe Health Care in Edmonton.

She was the daughter of the late Leland Otis and Elnora Ferguson Irwin.

Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Saturday at Butler Funeral Home in Edmonton with burial in Big Meadow Cemetery. Visitation will be from 4 until 8 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Everett Eugene Shirrell; a son: Jeffrey Eugene Shirrell; and one brother: Bertis Lee Irwin.

She is survived by one brother: Leland (Junior) Irwin of Glasgow; five nephews: Gary, Michael, David, Steve and Chris Irwin; three nieces: Daphne Wood, Sandra Irwin and Shelia Irwin. She is also survived by several great- and great-great-nieces and nephews.

SUMMER SHADE — Edes Perkins Nunn, 99, died Tuesday, June 2, 2009, at Metcalfe Health Care Center in Edmonton. Funeral services will be 2 p.m. today (Friday) at the Summer Shade Missionary Baptist Church with burial in the Summer Shade Cemetery. Butler Funeral Home in Edmonton is in charge of arrangements.



INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. — Edna Woodson Ross Smith, 81, died Saturday, May 30, 2009. Funeral services will be Saturday at noon at Brooks Funeral Home, Munfordville, with burial in Dixon Cemetery, Horse Cave. Visitation will be from 9 a.m. to noon Saturday at the funeral home.



GLASGOW — Harry Leonard Spillman, 91, died Thursday, June 4, 2009, at his home. Funeral services will be 2 p.m. Saturday at Pleasant Point Missionary Baptist Church with burial in Glasgow Municipal Cemetery. Visitation will begin at 1 p.m. today (Friday) at A.F. Crow & Son Funeral Home.



FORT MYERS, Fla. — Anna LaVecce Stark, 79, died Friday , May 29, 2009, at her home. Funeral services will be conducted at 11 a.m. on Saturday at Hatcher Saddler Funeral Chapel in Glasgow. Visitation will be today (Friday) from 5 until 8 p.m. and Saturday from 9 until 11 a.m. Burial will be in the Hiseville Cemetery. Memorials may be made to the John Kanzius Cancer Research Fund, 915 State St., Erie, PA 16501.
