Mitchell G. Bacon

GLASGOW — Mitchell G. Bacon, 76, of Glasgow, died Friday, June 5, 2009 at Jewish Hospital in Louisville.

Born in Monroe County, he was the son of the late Ollie G. Bacon and Etha Mae Copas Bacon and husband of the late Charlotte Jo Wilhelm Bacon. Mr. Bacon was a member of the Grider Memorial Baptist Church, retired from SKF in Glasgow a veteran of the U.S. Army.

Survivors include two sons Brad Bacon (Jennifer) of Cave City and Terry Bacon (Sarah) of Temple Hill; two daughters: Connie Reed of Lebanon, Tenn. and Linda Huff of Louisiana; three step-daughters: Jo Bryant (Joe) of Breeding, Connie Harris of Glasgow and Jacquie Radus (Chris) of Glasgow; a brother: Marshall Bacon of Tompkinsville; two sisters: Mary Wheeler of Oklahoma and Betty Birge of Tompkinsville; 19 grandchildren and 25 great-grandchildren also survive.

In addition to his parents and white, he was preceded in death by a sister, Edie McKinnis.

Funeral service will be 2 p.m. Monday, June 8, 2009 at the A.F. Crow & Son Funeral Home with burial in the White Cemetery.

Visitation will be after noon Sunday at the funeral home.

Arrangements are under the direction of A.F. Crow & Son Funeral Home.

Jeanette E. Fields

WHITESBURG — Jeanette E. Fields, age 80, of Whitesburg, died Friday, June 5, 2009 at the Whitesburg Regional Hospital. She was born. Feb. 1, 1929 in Letcher County. Jeanette was married to the late Clayton Fields who died in 1989. She was past president of Whitesburg VFW Post No. 5829 Ladies Auxiliary and an active member of the Ermine Senior Citizens and a member of the Church of God.

She is survived by three sons: Gary Fields (Brenda) of West Liberty, Tommy Fields (Krissie) of Glasgow and David Fields (Mary) of Knoxville, Tenn. two step-sons: Clayton Fields Jr. (Arlene) of West Carlton, Ohio and Larry Wayne Fields of Tampa, Fla. Also surviving are 12 grandchildren, 12 great-grandchildren, a special friend Leann Ramey and her daughter Gracie of Whitesburg. She was preceded in death by a son, Bobby K. Fields in 1987.

Funeral services will be 10 a.m. Monday, June 8 at the Everidge Funeral Home in Whitesburg. Visitation will be at the funeral home Sunday from 3 to 8 p.m.

Louise K. Harris

BOWLING GREEN — Louise K. Harris, 93, died Wednesday night, June 3, 2009, at Barren County Health Care in Glasgow.

Mrs. Harris was born on Nov. 12, 1915, in Portsmouth, Ohio. She was the daughter of the late Alexander and Iris Clendenin Kelso. She was preceded in death by her husband, James Jackson Harris of Bowling Green; her sister, Kathryn Benis of Columbus, Ohio, and her brother, Alex Kelso Jr. of Portsmouth, Ohio.

Surviving Mrs. Harris is her daughter, Sandra H. Welborn (Steve) of Glasgow; her son, James Randolph Harris of Louisville, Tenn.; and her grandchildren, S. Scott Welborn of Los Angeles, Calif., Shawn K. Welborn of Nevada City, Calif., and Stacia W. Silvester (Ben) of Wilmington, N.C. Also surviving are several nieces and nephews.

Mrs. Harris was a loving and devoted wife and mother. She was very active in the Presbyterian Women of the church and community organizations. She was a past president of the Community Greeters, served as treasurer for the Warren County Homemakers Association, and was honored with the Master Homemaker award by that association. She was also a member of the Senior Friends, the Briarwood Club, a Kentucky Colonel, and a volunteer for 21 years in the AARP-IRS tax counseling for the elderly program.

A "Celebration of Life" memorial service will be held in Bowling Green on Wednesday, June 10, 2009, at 3 p.m. at the Presbyterian Church, 1003 State St., Bowling Green.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorials be made to The Presbyterian Church in Bowling Green or the Karl Weis Memorial Scholarship Fund, c/o Edmonton State Bank, P.O. Box 1149, Glasgow, KY 42141.

Ethel Mae Wheet Lawrence

RED BOILING SPRINGS, TENN. — Ethel Mae Wheet Lawrence, age 88, of Red Boiling Springs, Tenn., died June 5, 2009 at the Monroe County Medical Center in Tompkinsville.

She was the daughter of the late Will Wheet and Thulah Dar Borders Wheet and wife of the late Earlie D. Lawrence.

Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Monday at Strode Funeral Home Gamaliel Chapel with burial in Union No. 1 Cemetery.

Visitation will be after noon Sunday at the Gamaliel Chapel.

Arrangements are being handled by Strode’s Gamaliel Chapel.



Larry Wayne Poynter

CAVE CITY — Larry Wayne Poynter, 50, died Thursday, June 4, 2009, at T.J. Samson Community Hospital, Glasgow.

The Barren County native was the son of the late James Harold Poynter and Edith Blair Poynter, Cave City, who survives him.

In addition to his mother, he is survived by a brother, J.R. Poynter and his wife, Teri, Cave City; and two nephews, Bob Poynter and Jessie (Ellen) Poynter, both of Cave City.

Funeral services with the Rev. Kevin Coomer and the Rev. Chuck Purlee officiating will be at 1 p.m. Sunday, June 7, at Bob Hunt Funeral Chapel, Cave City, with burial in Cave City Cemetery. Visitation is in progress at the funeral home.
