Wendell Franklin Davis

GLASGOW — Wendell Franklin Davis, 82, died Monday, June 8, 2009, at T.J. Samson Community Hospital.

He was born in Glasgow, the son of Cecil and Era England Davis. He was a former truck driver for Motley Transfer and a veteran of World War II.

He is survived by his wife, Pauline; one daughter: Joyce Faye Wyatt of Bowling Green; seven grandchildren: Stacey Wyatt of Glasgow, Melissa Burchett of Austin, Lisa Austin, Robbie Wyatt and Sarah Moore, of Glasgow, Allyson Pruitt of Cave City and Craig Davis of Gamaliel; several great-grandchildren; two sisters: Lillie Mae Rice and Josephine Houchens of Glasgow; two brothers: Charles Davis of Glasgow and Rondal Davis of Bowling Green; and several nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his first wife, Mazie Edmunds Davis; and a son, Daryl Wayne Davis.

Funeral services will be 2 p.m. Wednesday, June 10, 2009, at A.F. Crow & Son Funeral Home with burial in Glasgow Municipal Cemetery. Visitation will be after 5 p.m. today (Tuesday).

Brownie Rock

MUNFORDVILLE — Brownie Rock, 77, died Sunday, June 7, 2009, at Jewish Hospital.

He was born in Sonora on Oct. 5, 1931, to the late Gus W. Rock and Blanche Routt Rock. Brownie received his BS degree in accounting from Bowling Green College of Commerce in 1959. He was a former partner with E-town Paving Company and a present partner with Waters Quarry.

A veteran of the U.S. Marine Corps from 1951-52, serving in Korea combat, he was a forward observer for mortors and was promoted to corporal. He said he volunteered and was proud to serve his country — “the USMC is a fine military.”

Brownie was a member of the Munfordville Baptist Church, a 50-year member and Past Master of the Green River Masonic Lodge No. 88 F&AM;, a 50-year member of the 32nd degree Scottish Rite and a 50-year member of Kosair. He served on the Munfordville Fire Department, the Munfordville City Council and Hart County School Board.

Brownie married Claudine Melton on Oct. 17, 1953. In addition to his wife, he is survived by two daughters: Lori Stutts of Bowling Green and Amy Rock of Versailles; two grandchildren: Westley Lynn Devore and Amber Nicole Hogan; and one great-grandchild: Brailyn Nicole Hogan.

Funeral services will be 1 p.m. Wednesday in the chapel of Sego Funeral Home, Munfordville, with Brother John Smith officiating. Burial will be in Munfordville Municipal Cemetery. Visitation will be Tuesday from noon to 8 p.m. and Wednesday after 10 a.m. at the funeral home.

Mitchell Thomas Spears

TOMPKINSVILLE — Mitchell Thomas Spears, 71, died Sunday, June 7, 2009, at his home.

He was the son of the late Dewell Spears and Robbie Dodson Spears. Survivors include his wife, Betty Whitehead Spears of Tompkinsville.

Funeral services will be 1:30 p.m. Wednesday, June 10, at Strode Funeral Home, in Tompkinsville, with burial in Monroe County Memorial Lawn. Visitation is in progress at the funeral home.

In lieu of flowers, memorials are suggested to the American Heart Association or T.J. Samson Hospice.

GLASGOW — Minnie M. Elmore, 84, died Saturday, June 6, 2009, at T.J. Samson Community Hospital. Funeral will be 1 p.m. today (Tuesday) at Hatcher & Saddler Funeral Home with burial in Caney Fork Cemetery. Alternate expressions of sympathy may take the form of donations to your favorite charity.



BOWLING GREEN — Louise K. Harris, 93, died Wednesday night, June 3, 2009, at Barren County Health Care in Glasgow. A "Celebration of Life" memorial service will be Wednesday in Bowling Green at 3 p.m. at the Presbyterian Church, 1003 State St., Bowling Green. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorials be made to The Presbyterian Church in Bowling Green or the Karl Weis Memorial Scholarship Fund, c/o Edmonton State Bank, P.O. Box 1149, Glasgow, KY 42141. Arrangements are under the direction of A.F. Crow & Son Funeral Home.
