Raymond C. Bennett
GLASGOW – Raymond C. Bennett, 93, passed away Sunday, June 14, 2009, in Glasgow.
He was a resident of Barren County, a member of Browder’s Chapel Church and a retired farmer. Raymond was deeply loved by many and brought joy to all those who knew him.
He is survived by his wife of 66 years, Dora M. Lewis Bennett; one sister, Mary Bennett Pedigo of Indiana; several nieces and nephews.
Raymond was preceded in death by his parents, Jake and Fannie Cooksey Bennett; two brothers, Roger and Jewell Bennett; and one sister, Leona Bennett Houchens.
Funeral services will be 1 p.m. Tuesday at the Hatcher & Saddler Funeral Home with burial in the Happy Valley Memorial Gardens. Friends may call after 5 p.m. Monday at the funeral home.
Bonnie H. Goodman
GLASGOW – Bonnie H. Goodman, 86, Glasgow, died Sunday, June 14, 2009, at the T. J. Samson Community Hospital.
A native of Tazewell, Tenn., she was a daughter of the late William and Etta Cawood Hensley.
Bonnie was proud of her 35-year work history. Not only was she the first Glasgow employee hired at Handmacher Fashions, but also the first at R.R. Donnelley & Sons Co., where she served as secretary for three division directors. Other positions were office deputy during Sheriff Robert O. Alexander’s term and legal secretary for Richardson, Barrickman & Dickinson. A member of First Christian Church, she also served as deacon and was a choir member for many years.
Bonnie is survived by her husband of 67 years, Jack T. Goodman; one son, William T. Goodman of Glasgow; and two grandchildren, Ann Goodman and Michael Goodman.
One sister, Faye Starr, preceded her in death.
Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at the Hatcher & Saddler Funeral Home with cremation to follow. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the First Christian Church.
Ruth Martin Gray
GLASGOW – Ruth Martin Gray, 84, of Glasgow, died Saturday, June 13, 2009, in Glasgow.
She was born in Barren County, the daughter of the late C.B. Sisco Sr. and Eunice Martin Sisco. Mrs. Gray was a member of the Old Zion United Methodist Church, a former member of the Glasgow Garden Club and the Barren County Republican Women's Club. She was a homemaker and former office manager and bookkeeper for Samson Tobacco Warehouse.
She is survived by her husband, Kenneth; one daughter, Carole Ann Manion (Jimmy) of Glasgow; three sons, Sammy Gray (Pamela) of Park City, Joe Gray (Rita) of Smiths Grove and Ricky Gray (Karen) of Park City; 11 grandchildren, Joe B. Gray II, Jody E. Ledesma, Kory N. Gray, Adam Gray, Susan (Russell dec.) Blevins, Timothy Manion, Sammy Gray III, Mary Wright, Virginia Webb, Thomas Rich and Meridith Bowles Parker; 16 great-gandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be 10 a.m. Wednesday, June 17, 2009, at the A.F. Crow & Son Funeral Home with burial in the Old Zion Cemetery. Visitation will be after 5 p.m. on Tuesday.
Bobby James Linville
BOWLING GREEN – Bobby James Linville, 61, of Bowling Green, died Sunday, June 14, 2009, at his residence.
He was the son of the late Helen Windham Wells.
A graveside service will be conducted at 1 p.m. Monday at Shady Land Church Cemetery. Hardy & Son Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements.
Marie Mathews
GLASGOW – Marie Mathews, 99, of Glasgow, died Saturday, June 13, 2009, at Barren County Health Care in Glasgow.
She was born in Barren County, the daughter of the late Porter and Elizabeth Starr Matthews. Ms. Matthews was a member of the Temple Hill Baptist Church and was retired from the J. J. Newberry store in Glasgow.
She is survived by four nieces: Rebecca Richardson of Eighty Eight, Louise Forsythe of Morgantown, Opal Bowles of Clarksville, Ind., and Valeria Anderson of Caneyville; five nephews; Omar Barbour, Robert Barbour and Harold Matthews, all of Glasgow, Bob Matthews of Big Canoe, Ga., and Larry Crabtree of Virginia. Several great-nieces and nephews also survive.
She was preceded in death by three brothers; Granville R. Matthews, Bernice T. Matthews and Paul Matthews; four sisters, Vera Barbour, Beulah Bartlett, Mayme Jackson and Nelle Crabtree; a niece, Wanda Williams and two nephews, Rollin and Eugene Bartlett.
Funeral services will be 2 p.m. Tuesday, June 16, 2009, at the A.F. Crow & Son Funeral Home with burial in the Poplar Log Cemetery. Visitation will be on Tuesday from 10 a.m. until time for the service.
Elva Marie Vincent
BROWNSVILLE – Elva Marie Vincent, 79, of Mammoth Cave, died Thursday, June 11, 2009, at her residence.
She was the daughter of the late Raymond and Della Meredith Waddle.
Survivors include her husband, Howard Vincent, of Mammoth Cave.
Funeral service was 3 p.m. Sunday, June 14, at Stockholm United Baptist Church with burial in the Jaggers Cemetery. Arrangements were under the direction of Patton Funeral Home, Brownsville Chapel
