JoAnne Ball

GLASGOW — JoAnne Ball, 74, of Glasgow, died Friday, July 3, 2009, at the T. J. Samson Community Hospital. She was the daughter of the late Thomas Woods Richardson and Pearl Shaw Richardson. She attended Antioch Cumberland Presbyterian Church in Knob Lick, KY.

She is survived by one son: Anthony Ball and his wife Bess; one daughter: Lisa Ball Davis and her husband Brian; seven grandchildren: Amanda Tucker, Shelby Christopher, Tony Davis, Joshua Davis, Emily Davis, Justin Davis and Brooke Davis; two brothers: Tom Woods Richardson and William Richardson; one sister Lucy Crain.

Besides her parents she was preceded in death by her husband Bernice “B.Ball” Ball; two brothers: Jimmy Richardson and Jack Richardson; one sister: Kathryn Elliott.

Funeral services will be 2 p.m. Monday at the Hatcher & Saddler Funeral Home with burial in the Happy Valley Memorial Gardens. Visitation will be after 1 p .m. Sunday at the funeral home.

Ethel Dodson Bartley

TOMPKINSVILLE — Ethel Dodson Bartley, 95, Tompkinsville, and formerly of the Cyclone community, died Thursday, July 2, 2009, at home. She was a homemaker, a daughter of the late John and Gertrude Poindexter Dodson and wife of the late Raymond Bartley. She was a member of the Cyclone Church of Christ.

She is survived by two daughters: Evadene (Charles) Kirkpatrick, Tompkinsville, and Emma Jean Pitcock, Glasgow; nine grandchildren: Susan (Mark) Ciampa, Ellen (Barry) Vinsant, Joseph (Ann) Kirkpatrick, Bart (Stephanie) Pitcock, Scott (Paula) Pitcock, Troy (Dana) Pitcock, James Lewis Proffitt, Jonathan (Holly) Proffitt and Julie (Rob) Hibbett; 15 great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren.

In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by a daughter, Sue Proffitt, and one grandson, Will Pitcock, three brothers: Rub Mose, Tom and Fred Dodson; five sisters: Tessie Bartley, Annie Goad, Bessie Hume, Lizzie Petett and Mimi Haden Geralds.

Funeral services will be Monday, July 6, at 1 p.m. at the McMurtrey Funeral Home with interment in the Monroe County Memorial Lawn.

Visitation will be Sunday, July 5, from 1 to 6 p.m. at the funeral home.



Addie Dyer Crabtree

TOMPKINSVILLE — Addie Dyer Crabtree, 92, died Thursday, July 2, 2009, in Tompkinsville.

She was the daughter of the late Bob Dyer and Dora Anderson Dyer and wife of the late Otis Warren Crabtree.

Funeral services were Friday, July 3, 2009, at 11 a.m. at Yokley-Trible Funeral Home with entombment in the Monroe County Mausoleum.



Arlos Hunter

TOMPKINSVILLE — Arlos Hunter died July 2, 2009, at Nortons Hospital in Louisville. He was on the son of the late Raymond and Hazel (Pruitt) Hunter, and the husband of Jewell Key Hunter, Tompkinsville.

Funeral services will be Sunday, July 5, 2009, at 2 p.m. at Yokley-Trible Funeral Home, with burial in the Bailey Cemetery. Visitation will be after 3 p.m. Saturday, July 4, 2009, at Yokley-Trible Funeral Home.



Creola Pulliam Jent

SCOTTSVILLE — Creola Pulliam Jent, 91, died Wednesday, July 1, 2009, at The Cal Turner Extended Care Facility.

Funeral services will be Sunday, July 5, 2009, at Goad Funeral Home, Scottsville, with burial in Cedar Cross Cemetery.



Billy Rhea Kirby

BOWLING GREEN — Billy Rhea Kirby, 73, died Wednesday, July 1, 2009, at the Hospice Center at Bowling Green.

He was the owner of Kirby’s Barber Shop and a barber for 50 plus years. He attended Bowling Green Christian Church and was a veteran of the U.S. Navy, a member of American Legion Post No. 23, VFW and was a volunteer driver who drove veterans to the VA Hospital in Nashville, Tenn. He was an honorary member of Kappa Alpha Order at Western Kentucky University, supported the Bowling Green-Warren County Animal Adoption Center and was a member of Bowling Green Masonic Lodge No. 73 F&AM.; He was the son of the late Eldon Robert Kirby Sr. and Mattie Will Norris Kirby.

Survivors include his wife, Betty Carolyn Cole Kirby; one son: Todd Rhea Kirby of Bowling Green; seven brothers: Eldon Robert Jr. and wife Catherine of Bowling Green, Lawrence and wife Nellie, Wendell and wife Marion, Earl and wife Joyce, Donnie and wife Donna, all of Alvaton, James and Gail, and Larry and wife Sharon, all of Scottsville; one sister: Frances Thomas of Bowling Green; a special sister-in-law: Wanda Massey of Bowling Green; and several nieces and nephews.

Memorial services will be Monday, July 6, 2009, at 11 a.m. at J.C. Kirby & Son Lovers Lane Chapel, Bowling Green. The family chose cremation. Visitation will be Sunday, July 5, from 2 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home. Masonic services will be Sunday at 7 p.m. at the funeral home.

Katherine Miller Smith Peden

GLASGOW — Katherine Miller Smith Peden, 88, died Saturday, July 4, 2009, at her home in Temple Hill. A native of Barren County, she was a daughter of the late Roger and Nola Miller Smith. She was a devoted mother and grandmother, a member of the Poplar Log Church of Christ and a former member of the Etoile Eastern Star.

Survivors include two sons, Douglas Peden (Diane), and Charles Peden (Becky) of Temple Hill; four daughters, Margaret (Leroy) Sparks of Bowling Green, Glenda (Eugene) Boston, Linda (Mike) Wood, and Barbara (Delane) Miller all of Temple Hill; 13 grandchildren, Donnie Peden of Gamaliel, Craig Sparks of Bowling Green, Dr. Brad Sparks of Alaska, Tina Sparks of Louisville, Brian Peden of Temple Hill, Renée Beard of Indiana, Casey Peden of Glasgow, Sherry Hildreth and Shannon Boston of Virginia, Michelle Murphy of Burkesville, Mica Wood of Temple Hill, Brooke Headrick of Glasgow and Tyler Miller of Temple Hill; 9 great-grandchildren, Dustin, Drew, Travis and Matthew Peden, Eli and Kelsey Sparks, Corbin and Katie Murphy, and Bailee Beard; one sister, Rebecca Wilson of Las Vegas; one brother, Eugene Smith of Temple Hill; several nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Hugh Wallace Peden; one son, Hugh Donald Peden; two grandsons, Jerry Wayne Wood and Michael Wayne Wood; one brother, James Smith and one sister, Sarah Ann Bowers.

Funeral services will be 1 p.m. Tuesday, July 7, 2009, at the Hatcher & Saddler Funeral Home with burial in the Poplar Log Cemetery. Friends may call after 10 a.m. Monday at the funeral home. Alternate expressions of sympathy may take the form of contributions to Poplar Log Cemetery or T. J. Samson Hospice.

Alma A. Reynolds

MUNFORDVILLE — Alma A. Reynolds, 82, of Bonnieville, passed away at 6:15 p.m. Friday, July 3, at the Caverna Memorial Hospital. She was the daughter of the late Arthur and Ella Reynolds Buckner and the wife of the late Jesse Paul Reynolds. She was a homemaker and farmer and she attended the Mt. Pisgah Baptist Church.

She is survived by: two sons: Richard (Martha) Reynolds, Bonnieville, Jeffrey (Nicole) Reynolds, Bonnieville; three daughters: Carolyn (Neal) Reynolds, Bonnieville; Jennie (Wayne) Waldeck, Bonnieville; and Martha Oiler, Bonnieville; a sister, Alba Sanders, Bonnieville; 17 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by two daughters: Mary Jane Reynolds and Rita Paulette Reynolds, and by three brothers: Gordon, Vincent and Buford Buckner.

Funeral services for Alma A. Reynolds will be 1 p.m. Monday in the chapel of Sego Funeral Home with Brother Glenn Routt officiating. Burial will be in the Mt. Pisgah Cemetery. Visitation will be Sunday from 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. and after 8 a.m. Monday at the Sego Funeral Home.

Phil Rogers

MUNFORDVILLE — Phil Rogers, 66, of Horse Cave, died Wednesday, July 1, 2009, at Baptist East Hospital in Louisville, KY. He was retired from the U.S. Air Force and a member of Friendship Baptist Church.

He was the son of the late Floyd Rogers and the late Bettie Estes Rogers.

He is survived by his wife: Peggy Rogers, of Horse Cave; four sons: Phillip (Emily) Rogers, Wisconsin; Floyd Rogers, New York; Brince Rogers, Missouri; Michael Woodward, Horse Cave; a sister: Elnora Mitchell, Indianapolis, Ind.; three grandchildren: Thane, Ian, Grace Rogers; three step grandchildren: Marie Galvan, John Galvan, Larry Galvan; one sister-in-law: Becky Paige, Tennessee; a brother-in-law: Henry Hayes Sr., Cave City; two aunts: Frances A. Brown, Horse Cave; Flora B. Percell, Horse Cave; and several nieces and nephews.

Arrangements are being handled by Brooks Funeral Home of Munfordville, KY. The family will receive friends form 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. Sunday, July 5, 2009 and from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Monday, July 6, 2009 at Friendship Baptist Church, Monday, July 6, 2009. Rev. Kendell Ford and Rev. Chris Curry officiating. Interment will be at Horse Cave Cemetery, Horse Cave, KY.

MUNFORDVILLE — Taylor Gage Shoemaker, infant son of Brandi Cox and Jeremy Shoemaker, was stillborn at 7:18 p.m. Friday, July 3, 2009, at the T.J. Samson Community Hospital.

BOWLING GREEN — Alene Lyons Upton, 75, of Bowling Green, died Friday, July 3, 2009, at Hospice of Southern Kentucky. She was a daughter of the late Melvin Pedigo and and Maymie Murphy Pedigo, and the wife of Ewell Upton, who survives.

Funeral services will be 2 p.m. Monday, July 6, 2009, at Hardy and Son Funeral Home’s Bowling Green Chapel, with burial in the Rocky Hill Cemetery. Visitation is from 2-9 p.m. Sunday, July 5, 2009, and from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Monday, July 6, 2009 at the funeral home.

ANDERSON, Ind. — Doris K. Salmon, 83, formerly of Frankton, Ind., died Monday, June 29, 2009, at Manor Care Nursing Facility in Anderson, Ind. Graveside services will be at 1 p.m. Monday at Moore Springs Cemetery in Edmonton. Visitation will be Friday from 2 to 4 p.m. at the Harper & Dunnichay Funeral Home, 305 Sigler St., Frankton, Ind. 46044. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Diabetes or Alzheimers Association.
