Jean Myatt Ballard

GLASGOW – Jean Myatt Ballard, 67, died Sunday, Jan. 17, 2010, at Vanderbilt Hospital in Nashville.

She was the daughter of the late E.L. “Lawrence” Myatt and Pauline Bledsoe Myatt.

Funeral service will be 2 p.m. Tuesday at Yokley-Trible Funeral Home with burial at Harlan Crossroads.



Randall M. Grider

TOMPKINSVILLE – Randall M. Grider, 90, passed away Monday, Jan. 18, 2010, at Monroe County Medical Center in Tompkinsville.

He was born in Monroe County on Oct. 22, 1919, to the late Victor and Laura Holloway Grider. He was married to Jennie Mae Pinkley Grider. He was a member of the Tompkinsville Church of Christ and served as a deacon and as an elder for several years.

He graduated from Gamaliel High School in 1938 and then from Western Kentucky State College in 1942. After graduation he was drafted into the army where he served as a medic with the 10th Mountain Division. He saw duty in the Appinne Mountains of Italy where he was decorated for his service, including the Bronze Star and other honors.

After his service in the military he spent six years teaching vocational agriculture and 29 years as principal of Tompkinsville High School. He then served two years as assistant superintendent and transportation director of the Monroe County School District.

After retiring he farmed and raised Shorthorn cattle and enjoyed his family and friends.

He is survived by is wife of 63 years, Jennie Mae Pinkley Grider of Tompkinsville; one son and daughter-in-law, Jim and Nell Honeycutt Grider of Tompkinsville; one daughter, Jane Grider Nevins of Nashville, Tenn.; one brother and his wife, Roy and Doris Pedigo Grider of Summer Shade; five grandchildren, Jenifer Nevins Burton and husband Evan, Andrew Nevins, Jeff Cornelius and wife Amanda, Jennifer McClard and Jonathan Cornelius; six great-grandchildren; one great-great grandchild; three nieces and one nephew.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one sister, Lucille Grider Carter and two brothers, Robert and E. W. Grider.

Funeral services will be conducted Wednesday, Jan. 20, at 2 p.m. at Tompkinsville Church of Christ, with burial in Monroe County Memorial Lawn. Military rites will be performed at graveside by DAV Chapter 20 of Glasgow.

Friends may call at the Strode Funeral Home in Tompkinsville after 3 p.m. on Tuesday.

In lieu of flowers, memorials are suggested to the Church of Christ Disaster Relief Fund, 410 Allied Drive, Nashville, TN.



Betty S. Miller

KNOB LICK – Betty S. Miller, 72, died Sunday, Jan. 17, 2010, at the University of Louisville Hospital.

She was a daughter of the late Arthur and Hallie Compton Rupe and was a homemaker.

Survivors include two sons, Donnie (Marie) Payton of Hiseville and Elmer Seng Jr. of Knob Lick; one daughter, Debra (Darrell) Sanders of Cub Run; two sisters, Betty Moody and Helen Browning, both of Glasgow; one brother, Billy Joe (Thelma) Minkes of Indiana; six grandchildren, Bobbie Jo Jeffries, Rocky Seng, Sam Gossett, Tim Childers, Stephen Starrett and Stephanie Markham; seven great-grandchildren, Christian, Triston, Noah, Layke, Nissa, Dylan and Berek; one great-great grandchild, Ty; several nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her companion of 29 years, Ronnie Joe Love; one daughter, Jean Seng; seven brothers and sisters.

Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Thursday at Lighthouse Church in Horse Cave with burial in Asbury Cemetery at Center. Visitation will be after 2 p.m. Tuesday at the church. Arrangements are under the direction of Hatcher & Saddler Funeral Home.

Estelle Staggs

BONNIEVILLE – Estelle Staggs, 90, died Sunday, Jan. 17, 2010, at Hardin Memorial Hospital in Elizabethtown.

She was the daughter of the late George Bryant and Lula Arnette Bryant and the wife of the late Jack Staggs.

Funeral service will be 1 p.m. Wednesday in the chapel of Sego Funeral Home in Munfordville with burial in Staggs Cemetery. Visitation will be Tuesday from 3 to 9 p.m. and after 8 a.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.

Funeral service will be 1 p.m. Tuesday in the chapel of Winn Funeral Home with burial in Horse Cave Municipal Cemetery. Alternate expressions of sympathy may be made to T.J. MUNFORDVILLE – Mable Goodman, 86, died Saturday, Jan. 16, 2010, at Hart County Health Care Center. Funeral service will be 10 a.m. Wednesday in the chapel of Sego Funeral Home with burial in Munfordville Municipal Cemetery. Visitation will be Tuesday from 4 to 8 p.m. and after 8 a.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.



GLASGOW – Alan Morris McCoy, 69, of Glasgow, died Friday, Jan. 15, 2010, in Glasgow. Funeral service will be 2 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 19, 2010, at A.F. Crow & Son Funeral Home with burial in Glasgow Municipal Cemetery with military honors provided by DAV Chapter #20. Alternate expressions of sympathy may take the form of memorial contributions to the American Cancer Society.



COLUMBIA – Mildred Thomas, 76, died Sunday, Jan. 17, 2010, at Westlake Regional Hospital in Columbia. Funeral service will be 2 p.m. Tuesday at Stotts-Phelps-McQueary Funeral Home in Columbia with interment in Haven Hill Cemetery.
