GLASGOW — Joe R. Baise

GLASGOW – Joe R. Baise, 67, of Glasgow, died Monday, Oct. 1, 2012, at T.J. Samson Community Hospital.

A native of Cumberland County, he was the son of the late Franklin and Regina Bryant Baise. He was a farmer, having been employed by David Read and Roger Payne Farms, a United States Army veteran and a member of First Church of the Nazarene.

Survivors include one son, Dean Baise, of Glasgow; two daughters, Stacy Schooley and Joanna Baise, of Glasgow; one stepdaughter, Martha Gibbons, of Glasgow; three grandchildren, Amanda Baise, Amy Tarry and Kyle Young; and several aunts, uncles and cousins.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Rachel Ramsey Baise.

Funeral services will be 7 p.m. Thursday at Hatcher & Saddler Funeral Home with cremation to follow. Friends may call after 3 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home.



Timothy Mark Ballard

GLASGOW – Timothy Mark Ballard, 49, of Glasgow, died Sunday, Sept. 30, 2012, at T.J. Samson Community Hospital.

He is a son of Shirley Ballard of Summer Shade and Kyle Ballard of Tompkinsville. He worked in construction, but had been disabled for a number of years.

Other survivors include one son, Doug Baker of Eighty Eight; four sisters, Becky (Davis) Hurt of Glasgow, Karen Bartley and Sinda Anderson, both of Summer Shade, and Christina Ballard of Edmonton; three brothers, Ricky (Debbie) Ballard of Summer Shade, Duane (Kim) Ballard of Dayton, Ohio, and Jason (Jessica) Ballard of Gamaliel; and several nieces and nephews also survive.

He was preceded in death by his maternal grandparents, Shorty and Elsie Brown, and paternal grandparents, Sally and Radford Ballard.

Funeral services will be Wednesday, Oct. 3, at 1 p.m. at McMurtrey Funeral Home with burial to follow in  Summer Shade Cemetery. Visitation will begin Tuesday, Oct. 2 at 1 p.m. at the funeral home.



Glen Finn

CENTER – Glen Finn, 88, of Center, died Sunday Sept. 30, 2012, at his home.

He was the son of the late George Taylor and Carrie Keltner Finn, a World War II veteran and a member of Center United Methodist Church.

He is survived by one son, Lynn (Laurie) Finn of Center; three daughters, Sherry (Roy) Spencer of Center, Laurie (Barry Dean) Steele of Knob Lick and Gail (Scotty) Harris of Edmonton; one brother, Murry Finn, and one sister, Bernice Wood, both of Campbellsville; seven grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren also survive.

Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Allene Shirley Finn; two brothers, Arvid and Eddie Finn; and one sister, Virginia Phelps.

 Funeral services will be 1 p.m. Wednesday at Center United Methodist Church with burial in Campbellsville Memorial Gardens. Visitation will be Tuesday from 4 until 8 p.m. at Butler Funeral Home in Edmonton and from 10 a.m. until service Wednesday at the church.

Levie Lee Kinslow

GLASGOW – Levie Lee Kinslow, 89, of Glasgow, died Saturday, Sept. 29, 2012, at Barren County Healthcare Center in Glasgow.

She was born in Barren County the daughter of the late Samuel Davis and Euna Elizabeth Houchens Davis. Mrs. Kinslow was a homemaker and member of Mount Pleasant Missionary Baptist Church.

Survivors include one son, Ruben Steve Kinslow and wife Faye of Glasgow; one daughter, Martha Phillips and husband Ron of Lake Cumberland; two grandchildren, Bethann Wilson of Muncie, IN, and Earl Reubin Cox and wife Elissa of Crawfordsville, IN; three great-grandchildren, Kaitlin Nichole, Cameron Michael and Jaxson Riker, all of Muncie, IN; five step-grandchildren, Heidie and husband, Kevin Tolson, and Jeanne Seiler and husband Bob of CA., Robert Hogue and wife Jennifer, and Amanda Hogue of Glasgow, and Martha Mack and husband Joey of Louisiana; 14 step-great-grandchildren, Vivanna, Ariella, Steven Dale, Jamie, Ashley, Jamie, Allison, Dylan, Katelyn, Da’Shea, Dristan, and Brian and Nicole Seiler; four sisters, Sadie Jackman, Virginia Wells and husband James and Grace Roby, all of Glasgow, Dorothy Glass and husband John of Edmonton.

In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband, Louie Garnett Kinslow; three sisters, Mattie Matthews, Bertha Katherine Davis and Ida Mae Smith; and one brother, Samuel Davis.

Funeral services will be 2 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 3, 2012, at A.F. Crow & Son Funeral Home with burial in Mount Pleasant Cemetery. Visitation will be after 4:00 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.

Freda Jean Sturgeon

CAVE CITY – Freda Jean Sturgeon, 56, of Cave City, died Sunday, Sept. 30, 2012, in Bowling Green.

The Barren County native was the daughter of Louis Church and the late Evelyn Blair Manley and was the wife of Hollis Glenn Sturgeon.

She was in housekeeping with the Housing Authority and Country Hearth and was a homemaker. She was a member of New Hope Baptist Church.

She is survived by her husband, Hollis Glenn Sturgeon, of Cave City; one son, Glenn “Tracy” Sturgeon (Miranda) of Cave City; three daughters, Tonya Sturgeon of Bowling Green, Sonya Gedda (Jason) and Rebecca Sturgeon, both of Horse Cave; three brothers, Douglas Manley (Sonia) of Park City, and Carl D. Manley (Teresa) and Terry Manley, both of Louisville; one sister, Carol Grey of Bowling Green; stepfather, Carl Manley of Louisville; 10 grandchildren, Evelyn Greeno, Thomas Bennett, Neelix Crain, Alicia Bennett, Cody Sturgeon, Dylan Sturgeon, Whitney Gedda, Jacy Gedda, Haley Sturgeon and Jaren Gedda; one great-grandson, Daniel Greeno.

She was preceded in death by one brother, Jerry Manley.

Visitation will be 5 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 2, 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 3, and 9 to 11 a.m. Thursday, Oct. 4, at Patton Funeral Home Park City Chapel. Funeral service will be 11 a.m. Thursday, Oct. 4, at Patton Funeral Home Park City Chapel with burial in New Hope Church Cemetery.

Loyd S. Woodcock

GLASGOW – Loyd S. Woodcock, 90, of Glasgow, died Sunday, Sept. 30, 2012 at his home. 

He was born at Tracy the son of the late Virgil C. and Mattie Russell Woodcock. Mr. Woodcock was a farmer and was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II.

He is survived by one son, Robert Woodcock, of Glasgow; two daughters, Wanda Thurman (Odean) of New Castle, IN, and Doris Jean Brown of Dallas, TX; 10 grandchildren, Bobby Woodcock of Glasgow, Jeremy Woodcock of Louisville, Barry Thurman of New Castle, IN, Tony Thurman of Winter Park, FL, Sharon Koepf of New Castle, IN, Scott Golden of Glasgow and Brad Golden, Joy Shepherd, Scotty Brown and Shane Brown all of Texas; and several great-grandchildren.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Mary Vernice Simmons Woodcock; a brother, Royce C. Woodcock; a sister, Bernice Wilkins; and two granddaughters, Julie Smith and Karen Thurman.

Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Friday, Oct. 5, at A.F. Crow & Son Funeral Home with burial in Happy Valley Memorial Gardens. Visitation will be on Thursday from 4 until 8 p.m.

GLASGOW – Norris Gene Best, 80, of Glasgow, died Saturday, Sept. 29, 2012, at his home. Funeral services will be 10 a.m. Thursday at A.F. Crow & Son Funeral Home with burial to follow in Frankfort Cemetery in Frankfort. Visitation will be on Wednesday from 5 until 8 p.m. at the funeral home.



GLASGOW – David Wayne Gann, 61, of Glasgow, died Thursday, Sept. 27, 2012. Cremation was chosen and a celebration of life will be conducted for family and friends at 8190 Wingfield Church Road, Bowling Green on Saturday at 2 p.m. Call Cassandra at (270) 834-6772 for directions and more information. GLASGOW – Vera Mae Martin, 89, of Glasgow, died Saturday, Sept. 29, 2012, at BHI Assisted Living in Glasgow. Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Tuesday at A.F. Crow & Son Funeral Home with burial in Happy Valley Memorial Gardens.  Visitation will be Tuesday morning until time for the service.



EDMONTON – Wendell Floyd Shaw, 67, of Edmonton, died Saturday, Sept. 29, 2012 at his home. Funeral services will be 1 p.m. Tuesday at Butler Funeral Home in Edmonton with burial in Missionary Mound Cemetery.



GLASGOW – Leslie Dale Smith 55, a resident of Glenview Healthcare, died Saturday, Sept. 29, 2012, at T.J. Samson Community Hospital. Funeral services will be 10 a.m. Wednesday at A.F. Crow & Son Funeral Home with burial in Hiseville Cemetery. Visitation will begin at 2 p.m. Tuesday.



TOMPKINSVILLE – Christopher Gerald Staples, died Sunday, Oct. 30, 2012, at Monroe County Medical Center. Funeral service will be 1 p.m. Tuesday at Yokley-Trible Funeral Home with burial in White Cemetery.
