Raymond G. Collier
OWENSBORO — Raymond G. Collier, 81, went to meet his Lord and Savior on Aug. 26, 2009.
He was born on May 8, 1928, in Oakdale, Tenn. He was previously employed as a co-manager of Krogers in Owensboro and manager in Evansville, was part owner and manager of Collier’s Red & White Food Store in Tell City, Ind., and retired as owner of Collier’s IGA in Glasgow. He was formerly a member and deacon of Glasgow Baptist Church and was currently a member of First Baptist Church. He was honorably discharged from the U.S. Army with a rank of Corporal, having served from 1950-52 in Fairbanks, Alaska, and was a Kentucky Colonel.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Thomas Newland Collier and Alice Mae (Aiken) Collier; two brothers, Thomas Collier Jr. and James Collier; and two sisters, Mildred Collier and Fayrine (Winfred) Walker.
He is survived by his wife of 56 years, Ora Collier; his children, Vicki Collier (Mike) Hoesli, Lois Collier (Dale) Jarboe and Tom (Cynthia) Collier; grandchildren, Christopher (Denise) Jarboe, Adam Jarboe, Tara Hoesli, Rachel Hoesli, Natalie Hoesli, Matthew Collier and Elizabeth Collier; great-grandchildren: Jacynda “Jacy” and Isabella “Izzy”; and nephews: Rick and Tom Walker.
Services are at 10 a.m. on Saturday, Aug. 29, 2009, at James H. Davis Funeral Home Chapel in Owensboro. Burial will be at 4 p.m. (eastern time) in Somerset Cemetery in Somerset. Visitation is from 4 until 8 p.m. on Friday and after 9 a.m. Saturday at James H. Davis Funeral Home, Owensboro.

Ruel Houston Compton
SHEPHERDSVILLE — Ruel Houston Compton, 66, was born Aug. 28, 1942, to the late James Robert and Josie Coomer Compton in Metcalfe County, and returned to his Heavenly Father on Aug. 16, 2009.
Mr. Compton was a former employee for the old Belknap Inc. and a member of Antioch United Methodist Church.
Among those who preceded him in death include his parents and a sister, Maxine Gilly.
He leaves to cherish his memory his wife, Marianne Sweeney Compton; daughter, Rosemary Harvey (Steven); stepdaughters, Suzanne and Kirsten Hendricksen; sisters, Marcella Wagoner and Martha Lacy; brothers, Ralph, Bee and Billy Compton; grandchildren, Kaela and Rhiannon Harvey; a host of other family and friends.
Funeral services were 11 a.m. Thursday at Schoppenhorst, Underwood and Brooks, Preston Highway at Brooks Road, Shepherdsville, with interment in Brookland Cemetery.
Evelyn Mae Perkins
EDMONTON — Evelyn Mae Perkins, 77, died Tuesday, Aug. 25, 2009, at T.J. Samson Community Hospital in Glasgow.
She was the daughter of the late Rollin and Pauline Brown Oakes and wife of the late Charlie Perkins.
Funeral services will be 1 p.m. Friday, Aug. 28, at Pink Ridge Baptist Church with burial in the Pink Ridge Cemetery. Visitation will be from 4 until 8 p.m. today (Thursday) at Butler Funeral Home in Edmonton and after 10 a.m. Friday at the church.
Elizabeth ‘Bette’ Johnson nee Walker
GLASGOW — Elizabeth “Bette” Johnson nee Walker, 82, late of Glasgow, formerly of Mattoon, Ill., and Oak Lawn, Ill., passed away Sunday, Aug. 23, 2009.
She was the beloved wife for 53 years of John M. Johnson; loving mother of Jay (Carmen) Johnson and late Jeffrey (Beulah) Johnson; dearest sister of late William “Bill” (Dorothy) Walker; devoted grandmother of six; and fond aunt of many nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be Saturday, Aug. 29, 2009, at noon at the Palos-Gaidas Funeral Home (Edgar Funeral Directors), 11028 S. Southwest Hwy., Palos Hills, Ill. Interment will be in Cedar Park Cemetery. Visitation Saturday is from 10 a.m. until time of service at noon.

Shirley Elaine Whieldon
BOWLING GREEN — Shirley Elaine Whieldon, 68, died Tuesday, Aug. 25, 2009, at her residence.
She was the daughter of the late Lloyd Wesley Maneval and Mary Swimm Maneval. Survivors include her husband, Edward Whieldon.
Memorial services will be 11 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 29, at Fairview United Methodist Church. Cremation was chosen and no visitation is scheduled.
