Chester E. Bass

ARLINGTON, Texas — Chester E. Bass, 75, passed away Aug. 22, 2009, in an Arlington hospital.

A memorial service was conducted Saturday at 2 p.m. at Shepherd of Life Lutheran Church in Arlington.

Chester was born in Edgar, Ill., on Feb. 2, 1934. He graduated from Veedersburg High School and was a veteran of the United States Air Force serving during the Korean Conflict. Chester worked 30 years as a printer for R R Donnelley & Sons in Glasgow and Crawfordsville, Ind., and 10 years for Dollar General in Scottsville.

He was loved and will be always missed by his family and friends.

Donations may be made in Chester’s name to Community Hospice of Texas, 6100 Western Place #500, Fort Worth, TX 76107.

Survivors include a daughter: Rhonda Banks and her husband, Dr. David Banks, DC, of Grand Prairie; sons: Mark Bass and his wife, Tari, of Amelia, Ohio, Tony Bass and his wife, Kim, of Chino Hills, Calif., and Joseph Bass and his wife, Holly, of Scottsville; four grandchildren, one great-grandchild, numerous nieces, nephews, step-grandchildren, step-great-grandchildren and other relatives.

Julia Mattingly

GLASGOW — Julia Mattingly, 71, died Friday, Aug. 28, 2009, at the St. Joseph Hospital in Lexington.

Born in Barren County, she was the daughter of the late John Henry and Pauline Hargrove Mattingly. Miss Mattingly was a secretary for Mayor Luska Twyman and nutrition supervisor for T.J. Samson Community Hospital and member of the First Baptist Church in Glasgow.

Survivors include three nephews: Bobby (Veronica) Mattingly of Lexington, Trevino Mattingly of Lexington and Timmy (LaDonna) Mattingly of Louisville; two nieces: Shanika Mattingly and Paula Ann Mattingly, both of Lexington; seven great-nieces and great-nephews: Sheafen, Destiny and Cameron Mattingly, Trevion Mattingly, Kareon Mattingly, Jon' Tay and Shaniyah Mattingly; sister-in-law: Charlotte Mattingly of Lexington; and a cousin: Carl Howard Martin of Glasgow.

Funeral services for Miss Mattingly will be held 2 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 2, 2009, at A.F. Crow & Son Funeral Home with burial in Barlow Cemetery. Visitation will be on Wednesday from 11 a.m. until time for services at the funeral home.

Mary ‘Mammy’ Hayes

HORSE CAVE — Mary (Mammy) Hayes, 78, of Northtown, passed away at 5:10 p.m., Friday, August 28, 2009, at her home.

She was a native of Sumner County, Tennessee, a farmer, housewife, former employee of Budget Host Inn and a member of Echo Mission Church.

She was a daughter of the late Willie Odell Love and Eurella Wix Love. She was also preceded in death by her two husbands, Sidney Maulden and Charles Hayes; one daughter, Anna Mae Maulden; three sisters, Ivy Lou Love, Clydia Mae Cannon and Peggy Ann Langford; three brothers, Robert Y. Love, Elzie Love, James Edward Love; a great-grandson, Timothy Mattingly.

Survivors include four daughters: Gracie Lacy, Mary Horton and Lillie Spencer, all of Horse Cave; Valerie Cross, Cave City. Four sons: Sidney ( Jam) Maulden and Rickey Hayes of Horse Cave, Bobby (Red) Maulden and Charles (Buddy) Hayes of Munfordville. Fifteen grandchildren, 29 great-grandchildren, one stepson, several step-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

Funeral service will be at Echo Mission church, 2 p.m., Wednesday, September 2, 2009, with burial in the Echo Mission Church Cemetery under the direction of Winn Funeral Home.

Visitation will be Sunday, 11 a.m., until service time on Wednesday at Echo Mission Church.



Vicky Brown

GLASGOW — Vicky Brown, 54, of Glasgow, KY, died Friday August 28, 2009, at her home. She was born in Barren County the daughter of the late Walter Lewis Cross and Louella Harper Cross. Mrs. Brown was a LPN at T. J. Samson Community Hospital and a member of Old Zion United Methodist Church.

She is survived by her husband Henry Brown; a son Derek Brown and wife Pam of Glasgow; a daughter Christy Gumm and husband Matt of Glasgow; 6 grandsons Scott Brown, D. J. Brown, Corey Weckman, Austin Brown, Joey Brown and Hudson Gumm; 3 brothers James Cross of Sulphur Well, Glen Cross and Randy Cross both of Glasgow; a sister Bonnie Winchester of Glasgow and several nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by an infant son Shannon Dale Brown and a sister Joyce Bishop.

Funeral services will be 2:00 p.m. Monday August 31, 2009, at the A. F. Crow & Son Funeral Home with burial in the Glasgow Municipal Cemetery. Visitation will begin at 11:00 a.m. on Sunday at the funeral home.

Alternate expressions of sympathy may take the form of memorial contributions to the American Cancer Society.

King Keithley

GLASGOW — King Keithley, 80, of Park City, died Friday, August 28, 2009, in Glasgow. He attended Randolph Church of Christ and was a self-employed heavy equipment operator and farmer. He was also a served in the U.S. Army and was a veteran of the Korean War.

He was preceded in death by his parents Barney Keithley and Betty Mildred Moore Keithley.

Survivors include three sons: Jeff (Connie) Keithley of Perry, Ga., Tony (Alice) Keithley of Frankfort, Ky., and Mike (Mary) Keithley of West Monroe, La.; four daughters: Debbie Keithley of Louisville, Ky., Jennifer Scott of Perry, Ga., Sheila (Jeff) Redmond of San Francisco, Ca., and Christie (Kyle) Stamper of North Webster, Ind., and 15 grandchildren. He is also survived by two sisters, Mary Frances (Allen) Peden of Cave City, Ky., and Ada (Sonnie) Abrams of Louisville, Ky.

Visitation is Sunday, August 30, 2009, at the Patton Funeral Home Park City Chapel from 5 to 8 p.m. Graveside services will be 10 a.m. Monday, August 31, 2009, at Beach Grove Cemetery.



Don Burton

EDMONTON — Don Burton, 55, of Center, died Friday, August 28, 2009, at his home.

He was the son of the late Finis and Jewell Burton. He was a disabled farmer and member of Gods House Church at Knob Lick.

He is survived by his wife Sue Rhinehart Burton and three sons: David (Ivy) Simpson of Hiseville, Cleston (Angie) Simpson of Indiana and Billy (Angela) Simpson of Knob Lick. He is also survived by three brothers: Coy Burton and Kenny Burton, both of Columbia, and Joseph Burton of Exie; and four grandchildren, Kelly Davis, Landon, Bailey and Gracie Simpson.

Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by one sister, Ruby Roberts, and one grandchild, Heather Nicole Simpson.

Funeral services will be Sunday at Butler Funeral Home in Edmonton with burial in the Clack Cemetery at Knob Lick. Visitation will be after 9 a.m. Sunday at the funeral home.

HISEVILLE — Joyce Marie Pennington Jessie, 65, died Thursday, Aug. 27, 2009, at her residence. Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Monday at Hatcher & Saddler Funeral Home with burial in Glasgow Municipal Cemetery.
