William Byrd Chapman

GLASGOW — William Byrd Chapman, 19, died Saturday, Sept. 26, 2009, at T.J. Samson Community Hospital in Glasgow.

He was born in Barren County, the son of Darrell and Marla Ewing Chapman, of Glasgow, who survive. "Will" had attended Barren County Schools and the Beckton Church of Christ.

In addition to his parents, he is survived by two brothers: Keason Chapman (Melissa) and Adam Chapman, both of Glasgow; three sisters: LaDarra Chapman of Glasgow, Kimra Glover (Paul) of El Paso, Texas, and Taisy Chapman of Glasgow; nieces and nephews: Colby Rich, Dalton Bunch, Konagher Smith, Kallen Smith, Kayla Beth Chapman, Terry Paul Glover, Kelissa Chapman, Emily Chapman, Keily Chapman and Lilly Chapman.

Funeral services will be 1 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 29, 2009, at A.F. Crow & Son Funeral Home with burial in Glasgow Municipal Cemetery. Visitation will be after 2 p.m. today (Monday) at the funeral home.

Brother Ewell T. Cooper

CAVE CITY — Brother Ewell T. Cooper, 87, died Sunday, Sept. 27, 2009, at his home.

The Hart County native was the son of the late Brother A.P. and Della Adwell Cooper. He was a member of the Little Hope Missionary Baptist Church. He was ordained in 1944 and pastored several churches in Barren and surrounding counties.

Survivors include his wife, Lillian Sturgeon Cooper; a son, Jewell Cooper (Brenda); a daughter-in-law, Connie Cooper, all of Cave City; a daughter, Sharon Williams (Lennis), Glasgow; a grandson, Nicholas Williams, Glasgow.

He was preceded in death by his first wife, Mae Vincent Cooper; a son, Charles Cooper, five brothers and six sisters.

Funeral services, with Brother Danny Wayne Sexton officiating, will be at 1 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 30, at Little Hope Missionary Baptist Church with burial in Cave City Cemetery. Visitation at the funeral home will be after 10:30 a.m. Tuesday and from 9 a.m. to noon Wednesday at which time the body will be moved to the church.

Eva Simmons DeMunbrun

PORT ANGELES, Wash. — Eva Simmons DeMunbrun died Aug. 6, 2009, at Olympic Medical Center in Port Angeles, Wash., at the age of 91.

Services will be held at Mammoth Cave Hotel on Saturday, Oct. 3, 2009, at 2 p.m.

She was the eighth of 10 children born to Cora and James Simmons in Joppa. She graduated from Cave City High School and married Buell DeMunbrun on June 3, 1936. She enjoyed a long career with National Park Concessions and after retirement she actively engaged herself volunteering in her community, especially enjoying her many years tutoring children.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Buell, and son, Malcolm.

She is survived by her daughter, Sheila (Jim) Pfaff; sister, Vena Ingraham, Kentucky; three grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.

The family asks that memorials be made to a local Hospice of your choice.

Drennan-Ford Funeral Home, Port Angeles, was in charge of arrangements.



Beatrice Mae Holton Hatcher

CAVE CITY — Beatrice Mae Holton Hatcher, 84, passed away Saturday, Sept. 26, 2009, at her daughter’s home in Glasgow.

The Barren County native was the daughter of the late Floyd Holton and Polly Garrison Holton Sturgeon and the widow of Walter Grey Hatcher. She was a member of Little Hope Baptist Church, Eastern Star, Caverna Chapter No. 252 and a homemaker.

Survivors include a daughter: Becky Hensley (David), Glasgow; a son, Allen Hatcher (Paula), Smiths Grove; a half brother, Ivan Holton (Dee), California; a half sister, Mary Jean Watkins, Ohio; grandchildren: LaBreeska Ingles (Brian), Charlotte, N.C., Kim Hatcher, Emily Burd, Pam, Kerry Joe Overfelt, and a host of nieces and nephews.

Funeral services, with the Rev. Darrell Hensley officiating, will be 1 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 29, at Bob Hunt Funeral Chapel, Cave City, with burial in Cave City Cemetery. Visitation at the funeral home will be after 1 p.m. today (Monday).

Rosa Margaret Compton Robertson

GLASGOW — Rosa Margaret Compton Robertson, 91, died Saturday, Sept. 26, 2009, at NHC Health Care Center.

A former resident of Center, she was a homemaker and a member of the Christ Apostolic Pentecostal Church at Kessinger.

She is survived by nine children and their spouses: Doris Huff and fiancé, Larry Lawson of Glasgow, Carol (David) Gassoway of Cave City, Cecil (Ramona) Robertson of Hiseville, Terry (Irene) Robertson of Campbellsville, Gale (Sue) Robertson of Hardyville, Brother Howard Ray (Mary) Robertson of Center, Tony (Carolyn) Robertson of Legrande, Barty (Jackie) Robertson of Shady Grove and Ronnie (Teresa) Robertson of Glasgow; 20 grandchildren; 35 great-grandchildren; four great-great-grandchildren and a host of other friends and relatives.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Lee and Molly Rinehart Compton; her husband, James Allen Robertson; a daughter, Virginia Gordon; one granddaughter, Angelete Knipp; and two brothers, Ralph Compton of Haines City, Fla., and George Compton of Glasgow.

Funeral services will be held 1 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 30, 2009, at Hatcher & Saddler Funeral Home with burial in Hiser Cemetery at Center. Friends may call after 1 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.

Hubert J. Shirley

TOMPKINSVILLE — Hubert J. Shirley, 95, died Saturday, Sept. 26, 2009, at Monroe County Medical Center in Tompkinsville.

He was the son of the late Sherman and Nola Shirley and husband of the late Jennie Shirley.

Funeral services will be 2 p.m. today (Monday) at Strode Funeral Home, Tompkinsville, with burial in White Cemetery.



Katherine Simmons

TOMPKINSVILLE — Katherine Simmons, 72, passed away Saturday morning, Sept. 26, 2009, at Monroe County Medical Center in Tompkinsville.

She was the daughter of the late Albert Massey Huffine and Rosetta York and the wife of the late Willie Edward Simmons.

Funeral services will be today (Monday) at 2 p.m. at Hughes Funeral Chapel, Fountain Run.



David Wesley Thompson

CALIFORNIA — David Wesley Thompson, 44, formerly of Smiths Grove, died Tuesday, Sept. 22, 2009, in Butte County, Calif.

He was the son of the late Odell Howard Thompson and Anna Mae Thompson, who survives.

Funeral services will be 1 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 29, at Hardy & Son Funeral Home, Bowling Green, with burial in Smiths Grove Cemetery. Visitation will be 2 to 8 p.m. today (Monday) and 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.



Larry Dale Thornton

GLASGOW — Larry Dale Thornton, 65, died Saturday, Sept. 26, 2009, at his home after an illness.

He was born in Warren County, the son of the late Porter and Edna Pearl Gaddie Thornton. Larry was a certified public account and had been involved with various area businesses as a consultant or in management. He was a veteran, serving in the U.S. Air Force, and had been a former pastor of Cedar Grove Baptist Church. He enjoyed and was known for playing the role of Santa Claus during the Christmas season.

He is survived by his wife Shirley; one son: Todd Thornton of Bowling Green; two daughters: Tammy Donham (Chris) and Traci Webb (Josh), both of Nashville, Tenn.; one grandchild: Keevan Donham; one step-daughter: Wendy Hand (Jim) of Alabama; one step-son: Billy McDerment (Patti) of Alabama; six step-grandchildren; three brothers: Rondall Thornton (Amy) of Bowling Green, Bill Thornton (Hazel) of Portland, Ore., and Ken Thornton (Jean) of Bowling Green; and several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be 1 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 30, 2009, at White's Chapel Methodist Church at Boyce, in Warren County. Burial will be in White's Chapel Church Cemetery. Visitation will be Tuesday at A.F. Crow & Son Funeral Home from 3 until 8 p.m. and on Wednesday at the church from 11 a.m. until time for the service.
