Kent Almon ‘Doc’ Compton
BURKESVILLE — Kent Almon “Doc” Compton, 96, died Monday, Sept. 28, 2009, at his home.
He was the son of Melvin Otha and Lee Ann Thrasher Compton and husband of the late Juanita Grace Bull Compton.
Funeral services were Wednesday, Sept. 30, at 10 a.m. in the Memory Chapel of Norris-New Funeral Home, Burkesville, with burial in The Leslie Cemetery.
Alma Proffitt Dickerson
GAMALIEL — Alma Proffitt Dickerson, 98, died Monday, Sept. 28, 2009, at Monroe Health & Rehab Center in Tompkinsville.
She was the daughter of the late Odis C. Proffitt Sr. and Roxie Belle England Proffitt and wife of the late John Ellis Dickerson.
Funeral services will be 2 p.m. today (Wednesday) at Strode Funeral Home, Gamaliel Chapel, with burial in Gamaliel Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorials are suggested to Harmony Baptist Church.
Doris Virginia (Conrad) Lopp
CAVE CITY — Doris Virginia (Conrad) Lopp, 78, formerly of New Albany, Ind., died Monday, Sept. 28, 2009, at T.J. Samson Community Hospital in Glasgow.
She was a native of Harrison Co., Ind., and currently resided in Cave City. She was a member of Mount Tabor Presbyterian Church in New Albany, and was retired as a tutor in the New Albany/Floyd County School System after 20 years. She was also employed at Rolling Hills Health Care Center in New Albany. Mrs. Lopp was a member of the Order of Eastern Star No. 419 in New Albany.
She is survived by her husband: Robert C. Lopp, Cave City; sons: Daniel Lopp, Homosassa, Fla., and Harold Lopp, Glasgow; daughters: Anna Ash, Dallas, Texas, and Robin Allen, Glasgow; a sister: Cora Jane Frakes, Central, Ind.; nine grandchildren and 22 great-grandchildren.
Visitation will be from 1 until 8 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 1, at the Market Street Chapel of Seabrook Dieckmann & Naville (1119 E. Market St., New Albany, Ind.) Funeral services will be 1 p.m. Friday, Oct. 2, at the funeral home with burial in New Albany National Cemetery, Ekin Avenue, New Albany.

Helen Elizabeth Matthews
GLASGOW — Helen Elizabeth Matthews, 61, died Tuesday, Sept. 29, 2009, at T.J. Samson Community Hospital after an auto accident Tuesday in Barren County.
She was born in Barren County, the daughter of the late Joe and Mae Elizabeth Wilkinson Matthews. Helen had worked in Washington, D.C., and locally for Larry Garmon, Atty., and the Glasgow Daily Times. She was a volunteer for the Mary Wood Weldon Memorial Library and wrote a weekly book review for the Glasgow Daily Times Sunday paper.
Survivors include an aunt, June Mathews and husband Leroy of Glasgow; an uncle, Jessie Lee Wilkinson and wife Louise of San Antonio, Texas, and several cousins including, Larry Matthews, Kelly (Nancy) Mathews and Terry (Vickie) Mathews, all of Glasgow; Tracy (Mary Ann) Mathews of Harrodsburg and Nancy (John) Smith, Susan (Greg) Mims and Bill (Tura) Wilkinson, all of San Antonio, Texas.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a sister, Sally Louise Matthews.
Funeral services will be 1 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 1, 2009, at A.F. Crow & Son Funeral Home with burial in Glasgow Municipal Cemetery. Visitation will begin at 5 p.m. today (Wednesday).
Expressions of sympathy may take the form of memorial contributions to the Mary Wood Weldon Memorial Library.

Lucy Frances White
EDMONTON — Lucy Frances White, 95, died Tuesday, Sept. 29, 2009, at the Glasgow State Nursing Facility in Glasgow.
She was the daughter of the late Joseph and Nannie McCandless Martin. Lucy was a member of the Pleasant Grove Cumberland Presbyterian Church and retired from Sorenson Industries in Glasgow.
Funeral services for Lucy White will be 1 p.m. Thursday at Butler Funeral Home in Edmonton with burial in Pleasant Grove Cemetery. Visitation will be from 1 until 8 p.m. Wednesday and after 9 a.m. Thursday at the funeral home.
She is survived by her daughters: Louise White and Betty (Tommy) Thompson, all of Edmonton; three grandchildren: Teresa White Welsh and friend Richard Hamlett of Edmonton, David (Pam) Thompson of Berea, and Joey (Roxanne) Thompson of Orland, Ill.; seven great-grandchildren: Brandy (Jason) Wood, Amber Ervin, Morgan (Alan) Deweese, Tiffany, Hannah, Timmy and Nathan Thompson; five great-great-grandchildren: Brianna, Lexis and Jayden Wood, and Allie Jo and Kyndal Deweese. Other survivors include several nieces and nephews.
Besides her parents, Lucy was preceded in death by her husband, Joe White; a son-in-law, Floyd White; granddaughter, Rebecca Ervin; and four brothers and four sisters.

PORT ANGELES, Wash. — Eva Simmons DeMunbrun, 91, died Aug. 6, 2009, at Olympic Medical Center in Port Angeles, Wash.
