Kenneth Compton
EDMONTON — Kenneth Compton, 71, died Saturday, Oct. 3, 2009, at the Metcalfe County Health Care Center in Edmonton.
He was a retired truck driver and a U.S. Navy veteran. He was the son of the late John Lewis and Maria Marshall Compton.
Funeral services were 2 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 4, 2009, at Butler Funeral Home with burial in Foundation Cemetery.
He is survived by two sons: Dale (Kim) Compton and Billy Joe Compton, all of Edmonton; two daughters: Phyllis Button and Kimberly Nunnally, both of Glasgow; eight grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.

Harrell Preston Murrey
GLASGOW — Harrell Preston Murrey, 86, died Sunday, Oct. 4, 2009, at the Medical Center at Bowling Green.
He was born in Gallatin, Tenn., the son of the late John Woodall Murrey and Annie Ruth Harrell Murrey.
Mr. Murrey had worked for Ford Furniture and Shirley's Furniture Stores and later owned and operated his own furniture store. He owned and operated Murrey Roofing from 1979-95 and more recently had worked security for Eagles Creek Country Club in Naples, Fla. He was a member of the First United Methodist Church since 1958 and a Sunday school teacher for the Fellowship Sunday School Class for 16 years. Preston was a veteran of World War II, serving in the European Theatre with the 12th Armored Div. Co. A, 56th Armored Inf. Battalion.
He is survived by his wife, Montena; four children: Harrell Preston Murrey Jr. (Loretta), William Floyd Murrey (Terri) and Jane Grace Steffey (Randy), all of Glasgow ,and John Morris Murrey of Beaver Dam; one stepson: Kerry G. Nunn (Beverly) of Glasgow; two stepdaughters: Kristina Wise of San Antonio, Texas, and Cherie Monticelli of St. Louis, Mo.; six grandchildren: William Ryan Murrey, Ann Katherine Murrey, Ellen Elizabeth Murrey, John Brandon Steffey, all of Glasgow, Allison Payten Murrey and James Preston Murrey of Beaver Dam; two step grandchildren: Chasity Jo Nunn Wilson (Dustin) and Tyson Chase Nunn; one great-grandchild: Riley Jo Wilson; a sister: Ann Love of Princeton, N.J.; and several cousins and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his first wife, Jane Norris Murrey; brothers, Woodall and James Murrey and a sister, Marie Ford.
Funeral services will be 11:30 a.m. Wednesday, Oct. 7, 2009, at First United Methodist Church, Glasgow. Burial, with military honors provided by DAV Chapter 20 of Glasgow, will be in the Happy Valley Memorial Gardens. Visitation will be on Tuesday at A.F. Crow & Son Funeral Home from 2 until 8 p.m. and on Wednesday at the church from 10 a.m. until time for the service.

GLASGOW — Bobby Lee Huff, 65, died Sunday, Oct. 4, 2009, at T.J. Samson Community Hospital.

Lina Rich Lee
TOMPKINSVILLE — Lina Rich Lee, 96 years and nine months, died Sunday, Oct. 4, 2009, at Hardin Memorial Hospital in Elizabethtown.
The long-time Monroe County resident was a member of Grandview Church of Christ in Tompkinsville.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Welby Lee; her parents, Jesse and Alberta Rich; one sister, Vesta Rich; and five brothers: Willis (Bill), Woodrow (Woody), Ralph, Reed and Joe L. Rich.
She is survived by one sister, LaVelle Rich Dyer of Radcliff; and many nieces and nephews.
The funeral is at 10 a.m. Wednesday, Oct. 7, 2009, at Yokley-Trible Funeral Home in Tompkinsville, with Willis Rich officiating. Burial will follow in Tompkinsville Memorial Gardens. Visitation is from 5 to 7 p.m. on Tuesday, Oct. 6, at the funeral home.
John Earl Markham
BOWLING GREEN — John Earl Markham, 58, died Saturday, Oct. 3, 2009, at the Medical Center.
He was the son of the late Jessie Lee Markham and Myrtle McAlpin Markham Maddox. Survivors include his wife, Mary Ann Whittemore Markham.
Funeral services will be Tuesday, Oct. 6, at 1 p.m. at Hardy & Son Funeral Home, Bowling Green Chapel, with burial in Stokes Chapel Cemetery in Elkton. Visitation is 4 to 8 p.m. today (Monday) and from noon until 1 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.
Melva Marie Stokes
BOWLING GREEN — Melva Marie Stokes, 88, died Friday, Oct. 2, 2009, at a local nursing home.
She was the daughter of the late Dan Douglas and Rebecca Thompson Douglas and wife of the late Edwin B. Stokes Sr.
Funeral services will be Saturday, Oct. 10, at McLean Funeral Home, Fort Meade, Fla., with burial in Homeland Cemetery, Homeland. Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday at McLean Funeral Home.

Carol Williams Vibbert
FOUNTAIN RUN — Carol Williams Vibbert, 61, passed away Friday, Oct. 2, 2009, at T.J. Samson Community Hospital in Glasgow,
She was the daughter of the late James L. and Dimple (White) Williams.
Survivors include her husband, Carley Fay Vibbert.
Funeral services will be today (Monday) at 1 p.m. at Hughes Funeral Chapel, Fountain Run, with burial in Fountain Run Cemetery.
Harold David Shipley
GLASGOW — Harold David Shipley, 69, died Saturday, Oct. 3, 2009, at T.J. Samson Community Hospital.
A son of the late Haskell and Lida Ruth Crabtree Shipley, he was a salesman at Ben & Elmer Tractor Co. He had previously worked at Ideal Hardware for approximately 30 years and attended Calvary Baptist Church.
Survivors include his wife, Kaye Crowe Shipley; two sons, Brad Shipley of Glasgow and Brandon Shipley of Louisville; one sister, Dixie Renfro and her husband, Joe, of Glasgow; one half-brother, Ralph Shipley and his wife, Gloria, of Glasgow; several aunts, nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by one daughter, Stephanie Lynn Shipley.
Funeral services will be 2 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 6, 2009, at Hatcher & Saddler Funeral Home with entombment at Happy Valley Memorial Gardens. Friends may call after 4 p.m. today (Monday) at the funeral home.
