Billy E. Calvert

AUSTIN — Billy E. Calvert, 67, died Saturday, Oct. 10, 2009, at Vanderbilt Medical Center in Nashville.

The Barren County native was the son of the late Amos and Mattie Eaton Calvert. He was a retired employee of the Engineering Department of the Kentucky Department of Transportation and a farmer. He was a member, Sunday School teacher and trustee of Tracy United Methodist Church. He held a deep-seated love for his church, family, friends and his farm and cattle.

Billy is survived by his wife, Linda; three brothers-in-law: Kelly (Judy) Veach, Marshall (Carol) Veach and John David (Beth) Veach; special friends: Todd and Donna Gray and their children, Matthew, Jessica and Sarah; three aunts: Sally Brownfield, Nell Eaton and Josephine Eaton; and several cousins.

Funeral services will be 3 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 13, 2009, at Hatcher & Saddler Funeral Home with burial in Fountain Run Cemetery. Friends may call after noon Monday at the funeral home.

Alternate expressions of sympathy may take the form of contributions to Tracy United Methodist Church.

Ruby Frazier Davis

GLASGOW — Ruby Frazier Davis, 88, died peacefully Friday, Oct. 9, 2009, at the NHC Healthcare Facility and is now in heaven with her husband of 65 years, the Rev. Roy L. Davis who preceded her in death on July 19, 2009.

Born in Monroe County, she was the daughter of the late Leo and Minnie Waller Frazier. Mrs. Davis was a homemaker and retired employee of Sorenson Industries of Glasgow and a member of Friendship Baptist Church in Monroe County.

Survivors include two daughters: Martha Jean Thomas (Billy) of Glasgow and Sheila M. Atchison of New Castle; two grandchildren: Justin Atchison and Kyle Atchison (Amanda); one step grandchild: Brad Thomas (Carol); two step great-grandchildren: Megan Thomas and Tyler Richardson; two sisters: Delzia Wiley (Harley) of Nobob and Mattie Smith of Glasgow; and one brother: Huey Frazier of Sulphur Lick; and several nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by one daughter: Nancy Carolyn Davis; one son: Roy Michael Davis; a brother: Clifford Frazier; and two sisters: Agnes Chandler and Ruth Garmon.

Funeral services will be 2 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 13, 2009, at A.F. Crow & Son Funeral Home with burial in Poplar Log Cemetery. Visitation will be after 5 p.m. Monday, Oct. 12, 2009, at the funeral home.

Barbara Jane Kingrey

FREEDOM — Barbara Jane Kingrey, 65, of Freedom in Barren County, died Saturday, Oct. 10, 2009, at T.J. Samson Community Hospital.

She was born in Indiana, the daughter of the late Eddie and Exler Payne Combs. Barbara was a homemaker and farmer and attended Dover Baptist Church.

She is survived by her husband, Ewing “Doc” Kingrey; a granddaughter: Whitney Jane Reid of Glasgow; and a great-grandson: A.J. Reid of Glasgow.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a daughter, Penny McCluskey; and a great-granddaughter, Kaitlin Jane Reid.

Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Tuesday, Oct. 13, 2009, at A.F. Crow & Son Funeral Home with burial in Bethlehem Cemetery. Visitation began at 11 a.m. today (Monday) at the funeral home.

Joel Wayne ‘Pud’ Read

GLASGOW — Joel Wayne “Pud” Read II, 31, died Saturday, Oct. 10, 2009.

He is the son of Rita Wheat Read and the late Joel Wayne Read. He attended the Coral Hill Church of God.

Besides his mother, he is survived by one son: Kirby Tate Read; two brothers: Josh Read and his wife Audra and Jacob Read and his wife Nikita; one sister: Jamie Fancher and her husband Larry; maternal grandfather: Bubby Wheat; maternal grandmother: Dixie Younkin and her husband Jack; special aunt: Amanda Garmon and her husband Keith; several aunts, uncles and a host of other family and friends.

Besides his father, he was preceded in death by his paternal grandfather: Kempton Read; paternal grandmother: Neil Harrison Read; and his paternal step-grandmother: Faye Smith Read.

Funeral will be 1 p.m. Wednesday at Hatcher & Saddler Funeral Home with Brother Leon Jones officiating. Burial will be in Glasgow Municipal Cemetery. Visitation will be after 3 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.

Mary Dodd Ellis Thomas

COOKTOWN — Mary Dodd Ellis Thomas, 82, died Sunday, Oct. 11, 2009, at T.J. Samson Community Hospital.

Mrs. Thomas was the daughter of the late Brother Chris T. and Kathleen Settle Ellis. Mrs. Thomas was a homemaker and member of Pleasant Point Missionary Baptist Church.

Survivors include her husband of 59 years, Eldon Elloyd Thomas; two sons: David Eldon Thomas and wife Marilyn Hatcher Thomas and Brother Kevin Thomas and wife Teresa Brown Thomas of Cooktown; two grandchildren: Will Ellis Thomas of Cooktown and Casey Jane Thomas of Bowling Green; and one sister: Elizabeth Ann Combs of Glasgow.

Funeral services will be 3 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 15, 2009, at A.F. Crow & Son Funeral Home with burial in Glasgow Municipal Cemetery. Visitation will be after 2 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.

Mary Velma Sullivan

MUNFORDVILLE — Mary Velma Sullivan, 93, died Friday, Oct. 9, 2009, at Caverna Memorial Hospital.

She was the daughter of the late Andrew Jackson Smith and Melissa Clemons Smith and wife of the late Chester Dorsey and Fred Sullivan.

Funeral services were 11 a.m. today (Monday) in the chapel of Sego Funeral Home, Munfordville, with burial in Smith Cemetery.



Mark Daniel Thompson

GLASGOW — Mark Daniel Thompson, 37, died Sunday, Oct. 11, 2009, at The Medical Center at Bowling Green.

Born in Barren County, he was the son of Junior and Sandra Devore Thompson. Mark was an employee of Bailey & Grissom Realtors & Auctioneers and owner and operator of T's Tents of Glasgow. He is a Christian and a Mason active with Cave City and Bear Wallow Masonic Lodge.

Survivors include his wife, Anita Doyle Thompson of Glasgow; parents, Junior and Sandra Devore Thompson of Freedom; maternal grandmother: Lou Gene Reece of Edmonton; father and mother-in-law: Stanley and Joyce Doyle of Cave City; three godchildren: Mason, Christian and Mackenzie Doyle of Glasgow; aunts and uncles: Patricia (Ken) Bodkin of Bowling Green, Charlene Ward of Louisville, Larry (Mary Helen) Devore of Randolph; Wally (Norma) Devore of Glasgow, Joan (Eddie) Gassaway of Randolph and Tina (Ronnie) Taulbee of Winchester; two brothers-in-law: Tim (Donita) Doyle of Austin and Michael (Ann) Doyle of Glasgow; two nieces: Kathina Doyle of Austin and Emma Doyle of Glasgow; and a nephew: Joshua (Jamie) Doyle of Huntsville, Ala.

He is preceded in death by his grandparents, James and Sally Thompson and John Devore.

Funeral services will be 1 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 14, 2009, at A.F. Crow & Son Funeral Home with burial in Poplar Log Cemetery. Visitation will be after 5 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.
