Calanthe F. Branstetter
HARDYVILLE — Calanthe F. Branstetter, 87, passed away Wednesday, Oct. 14, 2009, at T.J. Samson Community Hospital, Glasgow.
She was a native of West Virginia and taught home economics and special education for more than 30 years in the Barren and Hart counties school systems. She was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II, a member of both the Hardyville and Thirteen Homemakers Clubs for many years and a member of Cosby United Methodist Church.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Shelby and Veva Finley Francis; her husband, Joe Branstetter; two brothers, Jay and John Francis; and one niece, Shelby Davis.
Survivors include one daughter: Janie Forbis and husband Larry of Hardyville; three sons: Dr. Mike Branstetter and wife Christy of Shelbyville, Bob Branstetter of Bowling Green, and David Branstetter and wife Denise of Horse Cave; six grandchildren: Melissa Dawn Steger and husband Howard, Ryan Forbis and wife Jessica, Nathan Branstetter, Terri Alsept and husband Aaron, Mallory Forbis and Jay Branstetter; five great-grandchildren: Joshua, Katie, Phoebe, Chloe and Addison; three sisters: Mildred Francis and Kathleen Fraley, both of West Virginia, and Beatrice Pratt of Florida; and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be 2 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 18, at Winn Funeral Home Chapel, Horse Cave, with burial in Cosby Cemetery. Visitation is from 2 until 8 p.m. Saturday and after 9 a.m. Sunday at the funeral home.

Wendell ‘Kat Daddy’ Fish
BURKESVILLE — Wendell “Kat Daddy” Fish, 52, formerly of Tompkinsville, passed away at his residence in Burkesville on Wednesday, Oct. 14, 2009.
He was an employee of T.J. Samson Community Hospital.
Survivors include his mother, Janell Davis Fish Lynn, of Tompkinsville; his life companion, Sharon Wolfe, of Burkesville; his stepchildren: Melissa Thurman and Cary Wolfe, both of Glasgow, and Jared Wolfe of Bowling Green; his brothers: William Fish, of Burkesville, James Fred Botts, of Tompkinsville, John Ed Botts, of Gamaliel, and Dennis Ray Botts, of Burkesville; several step-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
Funeral services for Wendell “Kat Daddy” Fish will be in the chapel of Yokley-Trible Funeral Home in Tompkinsville on Sunday, Oct. 18, 2009, at 2 p.m. with burial in Skaggs Creek Cemetery. Visitation for Wendell “Kat Daddy” Fish at Yokley-Trible Funeral Home will begin at 5 p.m. on Saturday.

James Linard Parish
TOMPKINSVILLE — James Linard Parish, 87, died Thursday, Oct. 15, 2009, at Monroe Health & Rehab Center in Tompkinsville.
He was the son of the late Alvin Parish and Nancy Curtis Parish and husband of Mildred Strode Parish of Tompkinsville.
Funeral services will be 2 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 17, at Strode Funeral Home, Tompkinsville, with burial in Old Mount Hermon Cemetery. Visitation is after 2 p.m. today (Friday) at the funeral home.
In lieu of flowers, memorials are suggested to Old Mount Hermon Cemetery.
David Neil Young
COLUMBIA — David Neil Young, 48, died Tuesday, Oct. 13, 2009, at his home.
Survivors include his stepmother, Eloise Jeffries of Columbia.
Funeral services will be 2 p.m. Friday, Oct. 16, at Ballou & Stotts Funeral Home, Burkesville, with burial in Marrowbone Cemetery.
Freeman Sexton
EDMONTON — Freeman Sexton, 83, died Thursday, Oct. 15, 2009, at Caverna Memorial Hospital in Horse Cave.
He was born in Edmonson County, the son of the late Ed and Minnie Wilson Sexton. Mr. Sexton was a mechanic for Bailey-Gibson Buick, Pontiac and GMC for 32 years and was a member of the Society Hill Baptist Church in Metcalfe County. He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II and was very active in gospel music during his lifetime.
He is survived by his wife, Vanglean Garmon Sexton; one son: Wayne Sexton of Cave City; a brother: Eugene Sexton of Glasgow; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by two brothers, Thurman and Harbert Sexton; and three sisters, Lena Wilson, Christine Clemmons and Murrell Shaw.
Funeral services will be 2 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 17, 2009, at A.F. Crow & Son Funeral Home with burial in Happy Valley Memorial Gardens. Visitation will be after 4 p.m. today (Friday) at the funeral home.

Carl H. Matthews
GLASGOW — Carl H. Matthews, 72, died Thursday, Oct. 15, 2009, at the Hospice of Southern Kentucky in Bowling Green.
He was born in Glasgow, the son of the late Arlie Lewis Matthews and Ethel Walker Matthews. He was also preceded in death by his wife, Dorothy Hughes Matthews.
Mr. Matthews was a self-employed well driller.
Survivors include his son: Carl Dewayne Matthews and wife, Debbie, of Tampa, Fla.; a stepson: Cecil Marty Cherry of Westmoreland, Tenn.; a sister: Patricia Dunk of Frankfort, Ind.; a brother: Jim Matthews of Seymor, Ind.; one granddaughter, three step grandchildren, one great-grandchild; 10 step great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
He was also preceded in death by a sister, Odear Rigney; and four brothers, Robert, Roscoe, Norris and Lewis Matthews.
Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 17, 2009, at A.F. Crow & Son Funeral Home with burial in Caldwell Cemetery in Tennessee. Visitation will begin at 4 p.m. Friday.

BROOKINGS, Ore. —Cheryl Elaine Ridge went home to be with her Lord with gentle grace and peace, surrounded by the love of her sister and caregiver, Diana, and her sister, Sharon, on Friday, Oct. 9, 2009. She was 59. A celebration of Cheryl's life will be held Saturday at 2 p.m. at Christian Family Fellowship, 15786 Hwy. 101 South in Brookings. Cremation was at Redwood Memorial Crematory.
