James ‘Jim’ E. Kerley
DURHAM, N.C. — James “Jim” E. Kerley, 67, died Tuesday morning, Nov. 3, 2009, at Durham Regional Hospital.
Mr. Kerley was born in Barren County, the son of the late Nelle Branstetter Kerley and the late Edward Leroy Kerley Jr. He was a veteran of the U.S. Air Force, serving during the Vietnam War. Prior to his retirement, Mr. Kerley was employed by Cavin’s, Inc., now Milner Document Products, and currently by Clements Funeral Service, Inc. He was an active member of Temple Baptist Church, serving several terms on the Board of Deacons, of which he was a past chairman and was secretary of the Sunday School. Mr. Kerley and his wife enjoyed genealogy and photography, which they used to photograph pictures of 32 complete cemeteries and make available on the internet at www.cemeterycensus.com.
Mr. Kerley is survived by his wife, Ellen Foreman Kerley; daughter, Margaret Anne and husband, Rod Thomas, of Cary, N.C.; sons, Brian Charles Kerley and friend, Kathryn Pecht of Virginia and Bruce Michael Kerley and wife, Sara, of Durham; five grandchildren; and his two Pekingese, Commodore and Lil’bit.
Funeral services will be Thursday 11 a.m. at Temple Baptist Church with the Rev. Norman Harris officiating. Burial will follow at Woodlawn Memorial Park. Casket bearers will be Dr. Ron Spain, Ed Ball, Tom Falcon, Scott Bradley, Ken Foreman Jr., Kevin Foreman and Jimmy Glenn. The family will receive friends Wednesday evening from 6 to 8 p.m. at Clements Funeral Home in Durham.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Temple Baptist Church, 4504 Sterling Dr., Durham, N.C. 27712.

Edith Marie Gardner
CENTER POINT — Edith Marie Gardner, 85, died Monday, Nov. 2, 2009, at the Magnolia Village Nursing Facility in Bowling Green.
She was the wife of the late Ova Gardner.
Funeral services will be 1 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 5, in the chapel of Sego Funeral Home, Munfordville, with burial in Center Point Cemetery. Visitation will be from 1 to 8:30 p.m. today (Wednesday) and after 9 a.m. Thursday at the funeral home.
The family requests that memorial contributions be made to the Center Point Cemetery Fund at Sego Funeral Home.
Nolian Gosnell Franklin
AUSTIN — Nolian Gosnell Franklin, 91, passed away Monday, Nov. 2, 2009, at her residence in Austin.
She was the daughter of the late Virgil R. Gosnell and Lily Carver and wife of the late Edgar Franklin.
Funeral services will be 1 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 5, at Hughes Funeral Chapel in Fountain Run, with burial in Pleasant Home Cemetery in Barren County. Visitation continues until 9 p.m. today at the funeral home.
Edward Thurman
EDMONTON — Edward Thurman, 91, a resident of Metcalfe County Healthcare Center, formerly of Glasgow and Burkesville, passed away on Saturday, Oct. 31, 2009, at the nursing home.
He was born in Cumberland County on April 16, 1918, to the late Elam Tommy and Martile Spears Thurman. He was a veteran of World War II and a member of Glasgow DAV Chapter 20. He was a longtime farmer and carpenter, and in later years enjoyed selling at flea markets.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by four brothers: Mursion Thurman, Paul Thurman, Allen Thurman and Russell Thurman; three sisters: Sally Melton, Lucille Harvey and Mattie Hardy; one daughter: Vivian Mulch; two sons-in-law: Otto Flowers Jr. and Donald Henry Sutton; two grandchildren: Bronson Flowers and Jennifer Denise Davidson.
Survivors include his wife, Dorothy Thurman of Edmonton; three daughters: Stella Davidson of Burkesville, Sheryl Flowers of Summer Shade and Wilda Sutton of Leitchfield; 10 grandchildren and several great-grandchildren also survive.
Funeral services will be 1 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 4, 2009, at Ballou & Stotts Funeral Home in Burkesville with burial in Burkesville Cemetery. Military honors provided by Glasgow DAV Chapter 20. Pallbearers will be grandchildren.
Johnnie H. Thompson
CANMER — Johnnie H. Thompson, 63, died Sunday, Nov. 1, 2009, at his residence.
He was the son of the late Lloyd Thompson and the late Monica Kerr Thompson.
Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Friday, Nov. 6, 2009, at Brooks Funeral Home, Munfordville, with burial in Thompson Cemetery, Cub Run. Visitation is from 3 to 9 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 5, and from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. Friday, Nov. 6, at the funeral home.

GLASGOW — George Sherman Pursley, 81, died Monday, Nov. 2, 2009, in Glasgow. Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Thursday at A.F. Crow & Son Funeral Home with burial in Glasgow Municipal Cemetery. Visitation is in progress at the funeral home.
