Mary Helen Bennett

EDMONTON — Mary Helen Bennett, 76, died Wednesday, Nov. 4, 2009, at her home.

She was the daughter of the late William and Mollie Roach Judd and wife of the late Finley Bennett.

Funeral services will be 1 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 7, at Butler Funeral Home in Edmonton with burial in Morris Chapel Cemetery. Visitation will be from 4 until 8 p.m. Friday and after 9 a.m. Saturday at the funeral home.



Johnny Cecil (Pete) Branstetter

SUMMER SHADE — Johnny Cecil (Pete) Branstetter, 89, died Friday, Nov. 6, 2009, at the Metcalfe Health Care Center.

Arrangements are incomplete, to be announced later by the McMurtrey Funeral Home in Summer Shade.



Ralph M. Curtis

TOMPKINSVILLE — Ralph M. Curtis, 81, died Wednesday, Nov. 4, 2009, at Monroe Health Care & Rehab in Tompkinsville.

He was the son of the late Vernie Curtis and the late Flora Bartley Curtis.

Survivors include his wife, Ruth Curtis, of Tompkinsville.

Funeral services will be 2 p.m. today (Friday) at Yokley-Trible Funeral Home, Tompkinsville, with burial in the Monroe County Memorial Lawn.



Ellen Olene Bow Emberton

GLASGOW — Ellen Olene Bow Emberton, 88, died Thursday, Nov. 5, 2009, at the Barren County Health Care Center.

A daughter of the late Elbert and Vercie Bow, she was a homemaker.

Survivors include four children, Donald Ray Emberton of Glasgow, Janice Emberton Schrader of South Carolina, Johnny Marvin Emberton of Munfordville and Sheila Emberton Eatmon of Glasgow; three stepdaughters, Wanda Hamner, Nancy Kneip and Judy Marlow, all of Indiana; one sister, Nell Wood of Brandenburg; 27 grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Marvin Emberton; one son, Floyd Strode Jr.; and two stepsons, Frank Emberton and Marshall Emberton.

Funeral services will be 2 p.m. Sunday at Hatcher & Saddler Funeral Home with burial in Bowman-Poplar Log Cemetery at Tompkinsville. Friends may call after 2 p.m. Saturday at the funeral home.

Glenda E. Brown

SULPHUR WELL — Glenda E. Brown, 72, died Tuesday, Nov. 3, 2009, at the home of her daughter in Elizabethtown.

She was the daughter of the late Ernest and Nora Mae Mitchell Thompson. Glenda, along with her late husband, Boyce Dale, owned and operated Browns Grocery in Sulphur Well. She was a member of the Sulphur Well Methodist Church.

Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Friday at Butler Funeral Home in Edmonton with burial in Hiser Cemetery. Visitation will be from 5 until 8 p.m. Thursday and after 9 a.m. Friday at the funeral home.

She is survived by two daughters: Tammy Twyman of Elizabethtown, and Rhonda South of Bowling Green; and one brother: Ruel Thompson of Horse Cave.

Ricky Glenn Bush

GLASGOW — Ricky Glenn Bush, 51, died Thursday, Nov. 5, 2009, at T. J. Samson Community Hospital, following a brief illness.

Ricky was a 1976 graduate of Barren County High School. He obtained a BS degree from Western Kentucky University in 1981 and an MAE degree from Western in 1993. He was a teacher in Atlanta, Ga., and Charlotte, N.C., prior to returning to Glasgow in 1999.

He is survived by his mother, Velma Bush, and his sister, Brenda Bush, both of Glasgow; and his canine buddies, Austin and Tracy.

He was preceded in death by his father, Glenn C. Bush.

Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Saturday at the Hatcher & Saddler Funeral Home with burial in the Glasgow Municipal Cemetery. Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. today (Friday) at the funeral home.

Ricky was an avid reader and frequent patron of the library. To preserve his memory, donations may be made to the Mary Wood Weldon Memorial Public Library, 1530 S. Green Street, Glasgow, KY 42141.



Albert Giddings Jr.

CARROLTON — Albert Giddings Jr., 84, died Monday, Nov. 2, 2009, at the Norton Hospital in Louisville.

He was born in Springfield, Ill., on July 6, 1925, the son of the late Albert Giddings Sr. and the late Florence Giddings.

He was a veteran of the U.S. Army.

Survivors include his wife, Tonnie Hammer Giddings; one daughter: Darlene Lang of Weston, Conn.; and four grandchildren.

Funeral services will be 2 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 8, at Yokley-Trible Funeral Home, Tompkinsville, with burial in Hammer Cemetery. Brother John Ford will officiate. Military graveside services will be conducted by Glasgow DAV Chapter No. 20.

Visitation begins at 5 p.m. today (Friday) at the funeral home.



Richard C. ‘Dickey’ Holman

GLASGOW — Richard C. “Dickey” Holman, 75, died Thursday Nov. 5, 2009, at his home.

He was born in Warren County, the son of the late William Franklin Holman and Ruth Cooksey Holman. Mr. Holman was a tool and die maker and a former employee of Sorensen Mfg., Kentucky Connector and the City of Glasgow.

He is survived by his wife, Earline Norris Holman; a daughter, Donna Perkins of Glasgow; three grandsons: Robbie (Kara) Perkins and David Perkins of Glasgow and Clifton Perkins of Camp Lejeune, N.C.; a great granddaughter: Sarah Kate Perkins and several nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, William Frank “Billy” Holman.

Funeral services will be 1 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 7, 2009, at A.F. Crow & Son Funeral Home with burial in Hiseville Cemetery. Visitation will be after 1 p.m. today (Friday) at the funeral home.

Rocky Kenneth King

SCOTTSVILLE — Rocky Kenneth King, 53, died Thursday, Nov. 5, 2009, at the Scottsville Hospital. He was the husband of Carolyn Dodson King.

Funeral arrangements, under the direction of the Bob Hunt Funeral Chapel, Cave City, are incomplete.

Expressions of sympathy may be made to the American Cancer Society.



Isley Roach Copas Scott

SARATOGA SPRINGS, Utah — Isley Roach Copas Scott, 91, formerly of Monroe County, passed away Friday, Oct. 20, 2009, in American Fork, Utah.

She was a housekeeper and member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Finis and Annie Belle Jessie Roach; her first husband, Jim Copas; her second husband, Joe Edd Scott; three brothers, William Roach, Schulyer Roach and James Harold Roach; and seven sisters, Mary Della Roach, Geneva Compton, Zorada Curry, Odie Harvey, Ada Reece, Ruby Estes and Delph England.

She is survived by one son: Bill Copas of Bowling Green; two daughters: Kathy Barrett of Utah, and Pat Sanders of Montana; 18 grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 7, at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints with burial in the Roach Family Cemetery in Adair County. Visitation will be from 1 until 9 p.m. Friday, Nov. 6, at the Yokley-Trible Funeral Home, Tompkinsville. Visitation on Saturday, Nov. 7, will be after 10 a.m. at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. Officiating at the service will be William R. Copas.



Mary A. Watson

TOMPKINSVILLE — Mary A. Watson, 54, died Thursday, Nov. 5, 2009, at The Monroe County Medical Center in Tompkinsville.

Funeral arrangements are incomplete, but under the direction of Strode Funeral Home in Tompkinsville.



David Calvin Wilson

BOWLING GREEN — David Calvin Wilson, 65, died Wednesday, Nov. 4, 2009, at his residence.

He was the son of the late Alvin Wilson and Anna Myrl Atchley Wilson.

Survivors include his wife, Sharon Wilson. He was preceded in death by his previous wife, Barbara Wilson.

Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 7, at Hardy & Son Funeral Homes, Bowling Green Chapel, with burial in Plum Springs Cemetery. Visitation continues until 8 p.m. today (Friday) and from 9 to 11 a.m. Saturday at the funeral home.

CANMER — Johnnie H. Thompson, 63, died Sunday, Nov. 1, 2009, at his residence. Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Friday at Brooks Funeral Home, Munfordville, with burial in Thompson Cemetery, Cub Run. Visitation is from 3 to 9 p.m. today (Thursday) and from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. Friday at the funeral home.
