Alma Shipley Duvall

GLASGOW — Alma Shipley Duvall, 91, died Thursday, Nov. 12, 2009, at T.J. Samson Community Hospital.

Born in Barren County, she was the daughter of the late D.J. and Lida Smith Shipley and wife of the late Paul Duvall. Mrs. Duvall was a member of First United Methodist Church and the Barren County Republican Womens Club. She was a former employee of Lermans Dept. Store, D & B Shoe Tree and Sue’s House of Shoes.

Survivors include a daughter: Davie Greer (Jerry) of Glasgow; a son: Paul Edward “Butch” Duvall (Sherrlyn) of Bowling Green; two sisters: Ruby Pearl Hunt (Cecil) and Elsie Polson, both of Glasgow; four grandchildren: Julie Edwards (Randy) and Cathy Doty (Dick), both of Glasgow, Lori Rasdall (Robert) and Brian Duvall (Monica), both of Bowling Green; nine great-grandchildren: Courtney Edwards Benefield (John), Catherine Edwards, Dylan and Trey Doty, Matthew, Christina and Taylor Sutton, Amber Rasdall and Emory Duvall. Several nieces and nephews also survive.

In addition to her parents and husband, she is preceded in death by a brother and sister-in-law, James and Idell Shipley; and a brother-in-law, Willard Polson.

Funeral services will be 3 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 14, 2009, at A.F. Crow & Son Funeral Home with burial in Glasgow Municipal Cemetery. Visitation will be after 5 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.

Joe Guess

BURKESVILLE — Joe Guess, 71, died Wednesday, Nov. 11, 2009, at the University of Louisville Hospital.

Survivors include his wife, Lela Guess, of Burkesville.

Funeral services will be 10 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 14, at Ballou & Stotts Funeral Home, Burkesville, with burial in Murley Cemetery. Visitation is after 4 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.



Murray Brown Hardenbergh

LEXINGTON — Murray Brown Hardenbergh, 84, passed away Wednesday, Nov. 11, 2009.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Gordon and Mildred B. Hardenbergh.

Survivors include his wife, Pryntha A. Hardenbergh; four children: Linda (Ferrell) Haulk, Susan (Richard) Trotter, Raymond A. Hardenbergh and Christina (JW) Lynn; four grandchildren, a great-grandchild and his loving companion, Wendy.

A private service will be held at a later date.

Charles Amos Furlong

GLASGOW — Charles Amos Furlong, 78, died Thursday, Nov. 12, 2009, at Jewish Hospital in Louisville.

He was born in Barren County, the son of the late Leslie Amos and Mila Hawkins Furlong. Mr. Furlong was retired from G.E. and was a farmer. He was a U.S. Army veteran of the Korean War and was a member of Old Zion United Methodist Church.

Survivors include two sons: Charles Michael Furlong (Robin) and Robert Barry Furlong (Teresa), both of Summer Shade; three grandchildren: Kristopher Michael Furlong (Grant) of Georgetown, Derek Scott Furlong (Jenny) of Glasgow and Miranda Nichole Furlong of Summer Shade; four great-grandchildren; three brothers: James Furlong of Glasgow, Billy Furlong (Pernie) of Magnolia and Donald Furlong (Sue) of Glasgow; four sisters: Grace Smith and Bessie Lee Gibbons, both of Glasgow, Barbara Wooten (Thurman) of Park City and Annie Settles (Billy) of Austin. Several nieces and nephews also survive.

He was preceded in death by two brothers, Jewell and Leroy Furlong.

Funeral services will be 2 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 15, 2009, at A.F. Crow & Son Funeral Home. Burial, with military honors provided by DAV Chapter 20 of Glasgow, will be in Old Zion Cemetery. Visitation will be after 11 a.m. Saturday at the funeral home.

Dee Kendrick Johnson

KNOB LICK — Dee Kendrick Johnson, 79, died Friday, Nov. 13, 2009, at T.J. Samson Community Hospital in Glasgow.

Arrangements are incomplete, but are under the direction of Butler Funeral Home in Edmonton.



Bethel Scott

BURKESVILLE — Bethel Scott, 90, passed away Tuesday, Nov. 10, 2009, at the Cumberland County Hospital in Burkesville.

He was born in Cumberland County on Wednesday, Feb. 5, 1919, the son of Jessie Frank and Fannie Belle Murphy Scott. He was a farmer, a carpenter, a member of the Hickory Grove Church of Christ and recently attended the Burkesville Separate Baptist Church.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife of 69 years, Alma Blythe Scott; his brother, Jesse Scott; his sisters, Ovie Webb and Onie Poindexter.

He is survived by his sons and daughters-in-law: Jessie Carl and Eugema Scott of Burkesville, Charles Randol and Hollie Scott of Burkesville; his daughters and sons-in-law: Shelvy Jean and Troy Anderson of Glasgow, Willa Dean and Jim Miller of Bowling Green, Virginia Mae and Junior Anderson of Glasgow, and Wanda Lee and Keith Fletcher of Bowling Green; his brother, Stanley Scott of New Palestine, Ind.; sisters: Lucy Worth of Indianapolis, Ind., and Elsie Scott of Celina, Tenn.; his aunt, Hattie Stewart of Coatsville, Ind.; his grandchildren: Jennifer Dile, Greg Anderson, Jeff Anderson, Douglas Cain, Chris Anderson, Melissa Williams, Angela Havener, Scott Fletcher, Sarah Kate Scott and William Charles Scott; and 19 great-grandchildren.

Funeral services were Thursday, Nov. 12, 2009, at 1 p.m. in The Memory Chapel of Norris-New Funeral Home with burial in Murley Cemetery.

AUSTIN — Kenneth Jerome Mattingly Sr., 74, died Tuesday, Nov. 10, 2009, at Westview Hospital in Indianapolis. Funeral services will be noon Saturday at Christ the King Catholic Church in Scottsville with burial in Glasgow Municipal Cemetery. Visitation continues at A.F. Crow & Son Funeral Home today (Friday) until 8 p.m. and on Saturday at the church from 10 a.m. until time for the service. A rosary service will be held at the funeral home today (Friday) at 7 p.m. Alternate expressions of sympathy may be made to the Alzheimer's Association, Kaden Tower, 6100 Dutchmans Lane. EDMONTON — Minnie M. Sutton, 49, died Wednesday, Nov. 11, 2009, at her home. Funeral services will be 1 p.m. Saturday, at Butler Funeral Home in Edmonton with burial in Bethlehem Cemetery in Monroe County. Visitation will be from 9 a.m. until service time on Saturday at the funeral home.



DINGESS, W.V. — John C. Tomblin, 44, died Sunday, Nov. 8, 2009, at T.J. Samson Hospital, Glasgow. A celebration of life will be 11 a.m. Saturday at Calvary Freewill Baptist Church, Dingess, W.V. He will be buried in Tomblin Cemetery, Dingess, W.V. The family will receive friends today (Friday) from 6 p.m. to midnight at the church. Freeman Funeral Home, Chapmanville, W.V., is in charge of arrangements.
