Jackie D. Short

TOMPKINSVILLE — Jackie D. Short, 70, died Friday, Nov. 13, 2009, at the Monroe County Medical Center in Tompkinsville.

He was the son of the late Herman Short and Melia Scott Short.

Survivors include his wife, Inez Young Short of Tompkinsville.

Funeral services will be 2 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 15, at Yokley-Trible Funeral Home, Tompkinsville, with burial in Bailey Cemetery. Visitation is in progress at the funeral home.



Dee Kindrick Johnson

GLASGOW — Dee Kendrick Johnson age 79 of Knob Lick died Friday, November 13, 2009 at T.J. Samson Community Hospital in Glasgow.

He was the son of the late Milie and Laura Mae Ferguson Johnson.

Dee was a farmer and member of the Savoryard Baptist Church.

Funeral services will be 1 p.m. Monday at Butler Funeral Home in Edmonton with burial in the Big Meadow Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 2 p.m. until 8 p.m. Sunday and after 9 a.m. Monday at the funeral home.

He is survived by his wife Norma Payne Johnson, five sons: Kenny (Jeanette) Johnson of Knob Lick; Greg Johnson of Center; Darryl (Rebecca) Robbins of Glasgow; Dana (Vicky) Robbins of Knob Lick and Keith (Karen) Robbins of Glasgow. One sister, Agnes Jeffries of Savoyard. Seven grandchildren, three great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. Besides his parents he was preceded in death by two brothers and two sisters; Travis Johnson, Wayne Johnson, Lovie Jeffries and Florene Greer.



Robert B. Hensley

HORSE CAVE — Robert B. Hensley age 76 of Bowling Green passed away Wednesday, November 11, 2009 in Casablanca, Morocco.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Alton B. and Mary Vass Hensley, 2 sisters, Lela Hensley and Dora Bruce, 2 brothers, Boston Hensley, Sr. and William Hensley.

Mr. Hensley was a graduate of Western Kentucky University and the University of Kentucky Law School where he was a Life Fellow. He was a charter member of the Thirteeners at Western Kentucky University, a member of the W Club, Cherry Society and Society of 1906. He was currently serving on the W.K.U. campaign cabinet. He was also a member of the Kentucky Bar Association and a Fellow of the American College of Trial Lawyers. Mr. Hensley had been a special justice on the Kentucky Supreme Court and on the U.S. Sixth District Court of Appeals. He was a former Hart County Attorney and started his own law firm in 1970 which is currently Hensley and Ross Attorneys at Law. He was actively practicing law as a mediator.

He was a founding member of the Caverna Memorial Hospital, Horse Cave Theatre, Caveland Country Club, Olde Stone and a member of Indian Hills Country Club. He was on the Board of Commonwealth Health Foundation, P.B.I. Bank and had served on numerous other boards. He was a U.S. Army Veteran, member of the Bearwallow Masonic Lodge #231, Horse Cave Rotary Club and Paul Harris Fellow, and a member of the Munfordville Baptist Church.

Survivors include his wife of 12 years: Jan Skaggs Hensley of Bowling Green; 3 daughters: Mary Jane Stumph (Joe) of Cave City Kim Quinn (Ben) of Simpsonville, Ky., Shannon Daffer(Bryan)of Denver, Co., step-daughter: Jane Ann Bardin (Will Kuhn) of Chicago, Il.; grandchildren: Nick, Wells and Kristen Gunn of Bowling Green, Ashley and Abby Quinn of Simpsonville, Ky., Sydnee, Brayden and Shelbee Daffer of Denver, Co.; step-grandchildren: Joseph Stumph of Bowling Green, Marlena and James Patrick Kuhn of Chicago; 1 great-grandson: Nicholas Gunn of Cave City mother-in-law: Edith Skaggs of Brownsville, Ky.; brother-in-law: Jim Skaggs (Linda) of Bowling Green and many nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews.

Funeral service will be conducted 2:00 p.m. Wednesday, November 18, 2009 at the Horse Cave Baptist Church with burial in the Horse Cave Municipal Cemetery.

Visitation Monday, Nov. 16, 10:00 a.m. - 9:00 p.m. will be in the Lovers Lane Chapel of J.C. Kirby in Bowling Green. Visitation Tuesday, Nov. 17, 9:00 a.m. - 9:00 p.m. in the chapel of Winn Funeral Home. Visitation Wednesday, Nov. 18, 9:00 a.m. - 2:00 p.m. at the Horse Cave Baptist Church.

GLASGOW — Charles Amos Furlong, 78, died Thursday, Nov. 12, 2009, at Jewish Hospital in Louisville. Funeral services will be 2 p.m. Sunday at A.F. Crow & Son Funeral Home. Burial, with military honors provided by DAV Chapter 20 of Glasgow, will be in Old Zion Cemetery.
