Marie Darnell Boyd-Carter

LIVINGSTON, Ala. — Marie Darnell Boyd-Carter, 43, a native of Bowling Green, died Tuesday, Nov. 10, 2009, at Birmingham VA Medical Center.

She was born on Nov. 16, 1965, the daughter of Henry Milton, who survives, and the late Gracie Boyd. She was the wife of the late Pratt Carter.

She served in the United States Navy from 1985 until 1991.

Marie was a member of Rose Chapel Church, she was appointed to the Sumter County Commission. She served as a minister at the State Cattle Ranch in Greensboro, as a volunteer with Governor Bob Riley's Black Belt Action Commission, the executive director of Praying in the SPIRIT Ministries at Jalor Gallery in Livingston, a learning enrichment service center for at risk youth. She was a graduate of Warren Central High School, a graduate of University of Maryland, and attended Western Kentucky University. Marie was a dedicated volunteer for many service organizations including Girl Scouts, 4-H, American Red Cross and Fatherhood Initiative.

Surviving are sons: Brandon Carter of Bowling Green, Pratt L. Carter Jr. of Colorado Springs, Colo., and Bryson Carter of Livingston, Ala.; daughter: Keioshia Carter of Livingston, Ala.; brothers: Wesley (Carmen) Boyd, Mitchell (Nita) Boyd, Harry Boyd and William Boyd, all of Bowling Green; sisters: Priscilla (Kevin) Hayes, Rita (Lloyd) Kurt, Johanna Driver, Brenda Boyd (Willie), Diane Boyd, and Gracie (Ernest) Beasley, all of Bowling Green; two grandchildren; Amarion “AJ” Carter and Amiyah Carter of Livingston, Ala.; and a special friend: Chett Chess, Birmingham, Ala.

Cremation was chosen. Inurnment will be at a later date.

Visitation will be 6 to 7 p.m. today (Thursday) at Cecila Memorial Presbyterian Church, 716 College St., Bowling Green. Memorial Services will be 7 p.m. at the church.

Burnam & Son Mortuary, Inc., Bowling Green, is in charge of arrangements.



Danny Lee Sherfey

GLASGOW — Danny Lee Sherfey, 64, died Tuesday, Nov. 17, 2009, at his residence.

A son of Oberia Wood Sherfey of Glasgow and the late Haskel Sherfey, he was formerly a mechanic for the city of Glasgow.

In addition to his mother, he is survived by two sons: Ricky Sherfey and Rodney Sherfey and his wife, Angela, all of Glasgow; five grandchildren: Derek (Hope) Sherfey, Corey Sherfey, Dustin Sherfey, Justin Sherfey and Hunter Sherfey; two brothers: Marty (Geraldine) Sherfey and Timmy (Shelby) Sherfey; one sister: Nancy (Kelly) Mathews; five nieces and nephews: Chris (Gina) Sherfey, Steve (Susan) Mathews, Alysia (Anthony) Wheeler, Tonya (Jessie) Wade and Kyle (Nikki) Sherfey; four great nieces and nephews: Riley Jo, Khloe, Draylan and Lancyn.

Funeral services will be 1 p.m. Friday at Hatcher & Saddler Funeral Home with burial in Glasgow Municipal Cemetery. Friends may call after 1 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home.

Charles Jones

INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. — Charles Jones, 20, formerly of Burkesville, died Monday, Nov. 16, 2009, at his home.

He is the son of Jerry Jones of Burkesville.

Funeral services will be 1 p.m. Friday, Nov. 20, at Ballou & Stotts Funeral Home, Burkesville, with burial in Perkins Cemetery. Visitation is after 4 p.m. today (Thursday) at the funeral home.

CAMPBELLSVILLE — Harry Leon Rice, 75, died Saturday, Nov. 14, 2009, at University Hospital in Louisville. The funeral will be 11 a.m. Friday at First Baptist Church, Campbellsville, with burial in Crown Hill Cemetery. Visitation will be after 5 p.m. today (Thursday) at the church. Buchanan-Robinson & Percell Funeral Home, Campbellsville, is in charge of arrangements.



HORSE CAVE — Julia B. Smith, 97, died Tuesday, Nov. 17, 2009, at the Hart County Health Care Center. Funeral services will be 10 a.m. Friday at Winn Funeral Home Chapel, Horse Cave, with burial in Horse Cave Municipal Cemetery. Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. today (Thursday) and after 8 a.m. Friday at the funeral home. Expressions of sympathy may be made in the form of donations to the Horse Cave Municipal Cemetery Trust Fund.
