Velma ‘Jean’ Bowles

GLASGOW – Velma “Jean” Bowles, 81, died Wednesday, Nov. 25, 2009, at Western State Nursing Facility in Hopkinsville.

She was born in Glasgow, the daughter of the late Jim and Pernie Bailey Bewley. Her husband was the late J. C. Bowles with whom she owned and operated J&H; Market in Glasgow for several years. She was also a representative for Electrolux Vacuum Sales. She attended both the Methodist and Church of Christ.

Survivors include one daughter, Patricia C. Smith of Glasgow; one son, Mark A. Bowles and wife Teresa of Bowling Green; four grandchildren: Michael D. Smith of Glasgow, Tiffany Bourne (Judd) of Decatur, Ill., and Jennifer and Stephanie Bowles of Bowling Green; four great-grandchildren; one brother, Hershel E. Bewley of Macon, Ga.; three sisters-in-law: Betty Browning of Glasgow, Gladys Lucas of Travelers Rest, S.C., and Judy Furlong (Wendell) of Burnside; and several nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by two brothers, Lonnie Leo and Wilbur Howard Bewley.

Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Monday, Nov. 30, 2009, at A.F. Crow & Son Funeral Home with burial in Happy Valley Memorial Gardens. Visitation will begin at 2 p.m. on Sunday at the funeral home.

Lois Melton Richardson Edwards

FLORIDA – Lois Melton Richardson Edwards, 88, of Sun City, Fla., passed away on Friday, Nov. 20, 2009, at her home.

She was the youngest of nine children of Andrew and Bertha Johnson Melton. Lois formerly lived in Hart County and moved to Elizabethtown and retired from Gates Rubber Company before moving to Florida in 1988. She was an active member of the Church of Christ in Ruskin, Fla.

She was preceded in death by her husbands, Cleon Richardson and Lester Edwards. She had many friends and enjoyed life and will be greatly missed.

She is survived by one son, Chester Richardson and his wife, Janet, of Shepherdsville; one daughter, Beatrice Richardson Gill and her husband, Wendell, of Alpharetta, Ga.; four grandchildren; three step-grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; and two sisters, Cindy Pedigo and Ella Jolly.

Funeral services will be 2 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 29, 2009, in the chapel of Winn Funeral Home with burial in Glasgow Memorial Gardens. Visitation will be at Winn Funeral Home from 3:30 until 9 p.m. on Saturday and after 9 a.m. Sunday at the funeral home.

Alternate expressions of sympathy may be made to the American Cancer Society.

James Marvin Grissom

KNOB LICK – James Marvin Grissom, 86, died Tuesday, Nov. 24, 2009, at NHC Healthcare in Glasgow.

He was the son of the late Henry and Mattie Hurt Grissom Slinker. He was a retired farmer and deacon of the Hillside Missionary Baptist Church.

Funeral services will be 1 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 28, at Butler Funeral Home in Edmonton with burial in Pedigo Cemetery. Visitation will be from 4 until 8 p.m. Friday and after 9 a.m. Saturday at the funeral home.

He is survived by two children, Verlon (Joyce) Grissom of Knob Lick, and Lavinia (Dennis) Toms of Cave City; four grandchildren, Jason (Sarah) Harper of Glasgow, Jessica (Daniel) Gaskins of Edmonton, Megan (Todd) Pennington of Glasgow and Melissa (Jay) Stephens of Knob Lick; three step-grandchildren, Angie Coomer, Amanda Stout and Jeremy Coomer and families; six great-grandchildren; one half-brother and one half-sister, Mitchell Slinker and Margie Martin, both of Louisville; and one daughter-in-law, Ollie Nell Grissom of Glasgow.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Gladys Grissom, on Oct. 28, 2009; two sons, Shelby and Jay Grissom; and two sisters, Nell Slinker and Edna Neal.



Perry Oral Rouse

MICHIGAN – Perry Oral Rouse, 81, of Detroit, Mich., and formerly of Monroe County, died Monday, Nov. 23, 2009, at Odyssey Hospice Center in Southfield, Mich.

He was the son of the late Hampton Rouse and Hazel Anderson Rouse and husband of the late Amy Lois Wheat.

Funeral service will be 1 p.m. Saturday at Strode Funeral Home in Tompkinsville with burial to follow in Freedom #2 Cemetery. Visitation will be after 10:30 a.m. Saturday at the funeral home.



Linda Faye Tungett

TENNESSEE – Linda Faye Tungett, 43, of Red Boiling Springs, Tenn., and formerly of Hope, Ind., died Monday, Nov. 23, 2009, at Monroe County Medical Center in Tompkinsville.

She was the daughter of Elizabeth Jean (Burris) Eakle of Hope, Ind., and the late Earl D. Eakle.

Funeral service will be 1 p.m. Saturday at Who So Ever Will Community Church in Edinburgh, Ind., with burial in Resthaven Cemetery in Edinburgh, Ind. Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Friday and after 11 a.m. Saturday at the church. Arrangements are under the direction of Eskew-Eaton Funeral Home, Edinburgh, Ind.



James Kenneth Watkins

MUNFORDVILLE – James Kenneth Watkins, 76, of Bonnieville, died Tuesday, Nov. 24, 2009, at his home.

He was a Hart County native and was the son of the late Dellard Watkins and Hazel Dodson Watkins. He was a retired utility manager from Brown-Forman Corp., a former cattle rancher, a U.S. Army veteran and a member of Campground United Methodist Church.

He is survived by his wife, Barbara Seymour Watkins; two daughters, Brenda Lynch and husband, Joseph, of Vine Grove, and Linda Riggs and husband, Marshall of Upton; five grandchildren: Jacob, Bethany and Simon Riggs of Upton, Tyler and Amanda Lynch of Vine Grove; an aunt, Narvella Dodson of Louisville; and several cousins also survive.

He was preceded in death by two brothers, Wendell and Bill Watkins.

Funeral service will be 11 a.m. Saturday at Campground United Methodist Church with burial in Campground Cemetery. Visitation will be Friday from 4 to 9 p.m. at Sego Funeral Home and 9 a.m. Saturday at the church.

The family requests that memorial donations be made to the Campground United Methodist Church or to Hospice. Sego Funeral Home is in charge of funeral arrangements.

GLASGOW – Kelton Shane Stockton, 32, died Sunday, Nov. 22, 2009, at T.J. Samson Community Hospital as a result of a automobile accident. Funeral services for Mr. Stockton will be 11 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 28, 2009, at A.F. Crow & Son Funeral Home with burial in Bearwallow Cemetery in Hart County. Visitation will be after 5 p.m. Friday, Nov. 27, 2009, at the funeral home.
