Dennis G. ‘Bud’ Amos

UPTON — Dennis G. “Bud” Amos, 87, died Monday, Nov. 30, 2009, at the Hart County Health Care Center.

He was the son of the late Andrew and Nora Dailey Amos and husband of the late Beulah McCubbins Amos.

Funeral services will be 1 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 2, in the chapel of Sego Funeral Home, Munfordville, with burial in Memory Park Cemetery at Bonnieville. Visitation will be Tuesday from 5 until 9 p.m. and after 8 a.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.



Virgie Pearl Compton

GLASGOW — Virgie Pearl Compton, 100, passed away Sunday, Nov. 29, 2009, at the Barren County Health Care Center.

She was the daughter of the late Homer Wells and Mary Tennyson Wells. She was a housewife and a member of the Boiling Springs Baptist Church.

Mrs. Compton is survived by her son, Don Wilson and wife, Geraldine, of Cave City; two grandchildren: Donnie Wilson and Beth Carter and husband, Joe, of Cave City; and three great-grandchildren: Cailee, Allyssa and Hannah Carter.

She was also preceded in death by three brothers, Wilson, Fred and Creed Priest; and by three sisters, Bessie Bradley, Emily King and Talytha Goodman.

Funeral services for Virgie Pearl Compton will be 1 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 3, in the chapel of Sego Funeral Home, Munfordville, with burial in the Cave City Cemetery. Visitation will be Wednesday, Dec. 2, from 11 a.m. until 9 p.m. and after 8 a.m. Thursday at the Sego Funeral Home until time for services.

W.T. Doyel

GLASGOW — W. T. Doyel, 73, died Sunday, Nov. 29, 2009, at Barren County Health Care Center.

He was a son of the late Terry and Helen Lee Doyel, a former member of the 623rd Kentucky National Guard, and a retired insurance agent for Commonwealth and Monumental Life Insurance Company with more than 30 years service. He was an avid supporter of the Glasgow Scottie Band and was a former president of the Scottie Band Parents. After his retirement, he was employed by Hatcher & Saddler Funeral Home.

Survivors include one daughter: Terri Lou Royse and her husband, Henry, of Glasgow; three grandchildren: Wes Royse and Cara Lu Royse, both of Glasgow, and Shane T. Michael Doyel of Brownsville; two brothers: Brad Doyel of Glasgow and Roger Doyel of Bowling Green; and several nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Lula Bell Minyard Doyel; and one son, Jerry A. Doyel.

Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Wednesday at Hatcher & Saddler Funeral Home with burial in Glasgow Municipal Cemetery. Friends may call after 3 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.

Patricia Ann Skaggs Hawkins

PARK CITY — Patricia Ann Skaggs Hawkins, 61, died Monday, Nov. 30, 2009, in Glasgow.

She was the daughter of the late Roland Skaggs and Stella Gentry Skaggs.

Survivors include her husband, Hizkiah Hawkins, of Park City.

Funeral services will be 2 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 3, at Patton Funeral Home, Park City Chapel, with burial in Evergreen Cemetery. Visitation will be from 11 a.m. until 2 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 3, at the funeral home.

Phillip Lewis Huckelby

DUBRE — Phillip Lewis Huckelby, 61, died Friday, Nov. 27, 2009, at his home.

He was a son of the late Jesse and Floy Anderson Huckelby and husband of Betty Cleary Huckelby, who survives.

Funeral services were Monday, Nov. 30, at 1 p.m. at McMurtrey Funeral Home, Summer Shade, with burial in the Dutch Creek Cemetery.



Mae Burgoyne Payne

SMITHS GROVE — Mae Burgoyne Payne, 94, died at 8:56 a.m., Saturday, Nov. 28, 2009, at NHC Healthcare in Glasgow.

The Alabama native was a homemaker and a member of Oak Grove Methodist Church. She was the daughter of the late Claude Burgoyne and Amanda Burgoyne and wife of the late Vernon V. J. (Ranger) Payne.

She was preceded in death by her sons, Albert, Floyd, Odell, Claude, Larry and Royce Payne.

Funeral services will be 2 p.m., Tuesday, Dec. 1, 2009, at Hardy & Son Funeral Home, Smiths Grove Chapel, with burial in Merry Oaks Cemetery. Visitation continues until 2 p.m., Tuesday at the funeral home.

Suvivors include five daughters: Barbara Grimes of Hopkinsville, Brenda Scott of Smiths Grove, Linda Payne and Beverly Simon, both of Glasgow, and Phyllis King and her husband, Ronnie of Park City; two sons: Donald Payne of Bon Ayr and Melvin Payne and his wife Betty of Park City; a sister-in-law, Louise Payne of Glasgow; 23 grandchildren; 31 great-grandchildren; and five great-great-grandchildren.

Larry Reece

GLASGOW — Larry Hayden Reece, 70, died Tuesday, Dec. 1, 2009, at his home.

He was born in Louisville, the son of the late Hayden and Grace Bardin Reece. He was the former owner and operator of Larry’s Safe Car and was an employee of Benedict and Benedict Oil Company in Glasgow. Larry was a veteran, having served in the U.S. Air Force and was a member and served as a deacon for many years at Southside Baptist Church in Glasgow.

Survivors include his wife, Betty Jo Reece; two daughters: Andrea Hanlon and husband Wade of Hannacroix, N.Y., and Kelly Ann Bray and husband Kelly of Glasgow; one sister: Charlotte F. Belle and husband Ralph of Hardyville; three grandsons: Wesley Bray, Wade Hanlon Jr. and Spencer Bray. Several nieces and nephews also survive.

Funeral services will be 1 p.m. Friday, Dec. 4, 2009, at A.F. Crow & Son Funeral Home. Burial, with military honors provided by DAV Chapter 20 of Glasgow, will be in Glasgow Municipal Cemetery. Visitation will begin at 11 a.m. Thursday at the funeral home.

Martha Garvin Meadows

HARDYVILLE — Martha Garvin Meadows, 86, died Monday, Nov. 30, 2009, at the Hart County Health Care Center.

She was the daughter of the late Louise Garvin, but was raised by her grandparents, the late Bub and Ricci Garvin. She was also preceded in death by her husband, W.R. (Bill) Meadows.

Funeral services will be 1 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 2, in the chapel of Winn Funeral Home, Horse Cave, with burial in the Horse Cave Municipal Cemetery. Visitation will be from 4:30 until 8 p.m. today (Tuesday) and after 9 a.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.

Expressions of sympathy may be made to the Zion Baptist Church.



Annie Lois Simmons

LOUISVILLE — Annie Lois Simmons, 107, formerly of Monroe County, died Sunday, Nov. 29, 2009, at Georgetown Manor in Louisville.

Funeral arrangements are incomplete at this time, but will be announced later by Strode Funeral Home, Tompkinsville.



Jackie Allen Walker

GLASGOW — Jackie Allen Walker, 71, passed away Sunday, Nov. 29, 2009, at T.J. Samson Hospital after a long battle with cancer.

He was born in Glasgow, the son of the late Stanley and Lou Mattie Depp Walker.

A lifelong resident of Barren County, his greatest pleasures were fishing and raising tomatoes, both of which he shared with friends and neighbors. Jackie was a retired tobacco buyer with American Tobacco Company and a long time member of Columbia Avenue Church of Christ. He was also a veteran serving in the U.S. Army.

He is survived by his wife of 48 years, Judy Bertram Walker; two sons: Mark (Janette) of Danville, and Matt of Glasgow; grandchildren: Blake, Andrew and Alex of Danville, Cody and Dusty of Glasgow; his sister: Betty Jo Myers (Botts) of Glasgow; brother-in-law: Harry Bertram (Claudette) of Lake City, Fla.; and many nieces and nephews.

Besides his parents, he is preceded in death by his daughter-in-law, Judy Elliott Walker; and great-nephew, Tyler Grant Bishop.

Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Wednesday, Dec. 2, 2009, at A.F. Crow & Son Funeral Home with burial in Glasgow Municipal Cemetery. Visitation will begin at 1 p.m. on Tuesday at the funeral home.

Alternate expressions of sympathy may take the form of memorial contributions to the American Cancer Society or Potter Children's Home, 2350 Nashville Road, Bowling Green, KY 42101.

LOUISVILLE – Cecil “Buddy” Morrison, 86, of Louisville and formerly of the Tracy community in Barren County, died Friday, Nov. 27, 2009, in Lexington. Funeral services will be 1 p.m. today (Tuesday) at Hughes Funeral Chapel in Fountain Run with burial in Union #1 Cemetery in Barren County.



MUNFORDVILLE — Mitchell Owens, 68, died Saturday, Nov. 28, 2009, at the Medical Center in Bowling Green. Funeral services will be 1 p.m. today (Tuesday) in the chapel of Sego Funeral Home, Munfordville, with burial in Timberlake Cemetery.
