Pauline Witherspoon Childress Corbin
BOWLING GREEN — Pauline Witherspoon Childress Corbin died Monday, Dec. 7, 2009.
She was the daughter of the late Archie Albert Childress and Effie Dewitt Childress and stepdaughter of the late Orpha Childress. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Ben D. Corbin.
Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Thursday, Dec. 10, at J.C. Kirby & Son Funeral Home, Lovers Lane Chapel, Bowling Green, with burial in Fairview Cemetery. Visitation is from 2 until 8 p.m. today (Wednesday, and from 9:30 a.m. to 11 a.m. Thursday, at the funeral home.

Verna Jewell Denton
GLASGOW — Verna Jewell Denton, 91, died Monday, Dec. 7, 2009, at a local nursing facility.
A native of Barren County, she was a daughter of the late Willard H. and Valley M. Parrish Wells, a homemaker, and a member of the Oak Grove United Methodist Church.
Survivors include four great-nieces and nephews, Gregory Moore, Glen Moore, Ginger Nichols and Gina Moore, all of Glasgow; two nieces, Rebecca Gabehart and Serena Haynes, both of Bowling Green; and one nephew, James H. Denton of Franklin, Tenn.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, William F. “Bill” Denton; her sister, Elizabeth Davis; her stepfather, Chester Moore and her half–brother, C.A. Moore Jr.
Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Thursday at Hatcher & Saddler Funeral Home with burial in Glasgow Municipal Cemetery. Visitation will be from 2 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.
In keeping with Verna’s love of cats, it is suggested that donations be made to Barren River Animal Welfare Association.

Betty Jane Gantz
GLASGOW — Betty Jane Gantz, 84, died Monday, Dec. 7, 2009, at NHC Healthcare in Glasgow.
She was born in Alliance, Ohio, the daughter of the late William J. and Effie Hubbins Montler. Mrs. Gantz was a homemaker and a former teacher's aid while living in Florida and had also been a cook at Liberty Street School in Glasgow. She was a member of St. Helens Catholic Church.
She is survived by her husband of 62 years, Duane; three daughters: Linda Payne (John) and Judy Downing (Joe Burton), all of Glasgow, and Jane Toms (Philip) of Lexington; three sons: Jerry Gantz (Carla) of Glasgow, Michael Gantz (Lee Ann) of Bowling Green and Tom Gantz of Ellenton, Fla.; five grandchildren: David Downing, Danny Downing (Brandy) Ellen Downing, Carley Devore (Matt) and Jennie Samons (Nick); five great-grandchildren: Virginia Downing, Rose Marie Downing, Luna Devore, Vega Devore and Elliot Samons; and four step grandchildren: Philip, Katherine and Courtney Toms and Alison Durling; and a step-great-grandson, Logan Toms. She is also survived by her special caregiver, Vickie Mosby.
Mrs. Gantz was preceded in death by 14 brothers and sisters.
Mrs. Gantz had chosen cremation. There will be a visitation time with the family on Wednesday from 4 until 8 p.m. at A.F. Crow & Son Funeral Home. The family will hold a private graveside service at the Glasgow Municipal Cemetery.

SUMMER SHADE — Luzadie Hicks, 82, formerly of Indianapolis, died Tuesday, Dec. 8, 2009, at Glasgow Health & Rehab.

Stanley E. Reneau
GLASGOW — Stanley E. Reneau, 91, died Monday, Dec. 7, 2009, at his home.
He was born in Barren County, the son of the late Isaac Smith Reneau and Neva Moore Reneau. Mr. Reneau was a lifelong farmer and a member of the Columbia Avenue Church of Christ.
He is survived by two sons: Larry Reneau and wife Debbie and Fred Reneau and wife Debbie, all of Glasgow; seven grandchildren: Jennifer Reneau Cardwell, Robin Reneau, Chase Reneau, Dusty Reneau, Jason Reneau, Jonathan Reneau and Julie Reneau Miller; and 10 great-grandchildren.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Edna Irene Bailey Reneau; a son, Billy Reneau; a grandson, Toby Reneau; three brothers, Lawrence, Lance and Garlan Reneau; and three sisters, Margaret Alexander, Arnettie McGuire and Eldean Kingrey.
Funeral services will be 2 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 9, 2009, at A.F. Crow & Son Funeral Home with burial in Happy Valley Memorial Gardens. Visitation will be after 5 p.m. Tuesday.

Charles ‘Ben’ Seeley
GLASGOW — Charles “Ben” Seeley, 66, died Monday, Dec. 7, 2009, at his residence.
A native of California, he was a son of the late Jewell and Jeanice Christianson Seeley. He was a truck driver and attended First Christian Church of Glasgow.
Survivors include his wife, Dr. Martha Seeley; his nine children: Mary Stockler of Glasgow, Sarah Seeley-Dick (Justen) of Knoxville, Tenn., Joe Seeley (Ashley) of Glasgow, Rebecca Sax (Carl) and Elizabeth Zheng (Kai), all of Sacramento, Calif., James Seeley, Matthew Seeley (Nashira), John Seeley and Deborah Seeley, all of Glasgow; 10 grandchildren; a special great-nephew, Charlie Seeley of Glasgow; one brother, Scott Seeley of Adair County; three sisters: Katie Kerr of Arizona, Deedee Herrman of Goodlettsville, Tenn., and Carol Ludgate of Bethpage, Tenn.; two step-sisters; three step-brothers; and several nieces and nephews.
