Richard ‘Dick’ Joseph Bessette Sr.

SMITHS GROVE — Richard “Dick” Joseph Bessette Sr., 69, died Monday, Dec. 7, 2009, at his residence.

He was the son of the late Ovila Bessette and Irene (Barrette) Bessette. Survivors include his wife, Phyllis (Moss) Bessette of Smiths Grove.

Funeral services will be 2 p.m. Friday, Dec. 11, at Hardy & Son Funeral Home, Bowling Green Chapel, with burial in Smiths Grove Cemetery. Visitation will be 2 to 8 p.m. Thursday, and 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.



Christian Lawrence Cook

MUNFORDVILLE — Christian Lawrence Cook, 5-day-old infant son of Brandon and Abby Webb Cook, died Tuesday, Dec. 8, 2009, at the University of Kentucky Medical Center in Lexington.

In addition to his parents, he is survived by: maternal grandparents, Larry and Marsha Webb of Munfordville; paternal grandparents, Kimmy and Tammy Cook of Bonnieville; maternal great-grandparent, Edwina Stinson of Cub Run; paternal great-grandparent, Joy Cook of Bonnieville; and aunts, Ashley Webb, Nikki Dent and Samantha Cook.

Funeral services will be 1 p.m. Thursday at Bonnieville Baptist Church with Brother Ronnie Blair officiating. Burial will be in the Memory Park Cemetery at Bonnieville. Visitation with the family will be after noon Thursday at the Bonnieville Baptist Church.

Luzadie Hicks

SUMMER SHADE — Luzadie Hicks, 82, formerly of Indianapolis, died Tuesday, Dec. 8, 2009, at Glasgow Health & Rehab.

Born in Monticello, she was a daughter of the late Bart and Liza Phillips Hardwick.

She is survived by her husband, Ralph Hicks; five daughters: Frances (Ed) Adkins of Temple Hill, Barbara (Darrell) Hurt of Summer Shade, Sheila (Mike) Wix of Indiana, Nita (Steve) Campbell of Prestonburg, and Sylvia Davidson of Glasgow; four sons: Bobby (Sue) Hicks, Louie (Karen) Hicks, Paul (Sondra) Hicks and Roger (Charity) Hicks, all of Indiana; 20 grandchildren and several great- and great-great-grandchildren.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a son, Roy Hicks; and six brothers and sisters.

Funeral services will be Thursday, Dec. 10, at 1 p.m. at McMurtrey Funeral Home, Summer Shade, with burial in Beaumont Cemetery. Visitation will be after 2 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.



Carolyn Jewell Martin

CAVE CITY — Carolyn Jewell Martin, 49, passed away Tuesday, Dec. 8, 2009, at UK Medical Center in Lexington.

Survivors include her husband, Doug Martin; a daughter, Amanda Sturgeon; a son, Jason Martin; and three grandchildren, all of Cave City.

Funeral arrangements, under the direction of Bob Hunt Funeral Chapel, Cave City, are incomplete.



Edna Ruth McCutcheon

CHARLESTOWN, Ind. — Edna Ruth McCutcheon, 68, passed away Tuesday, Dec. 8, 2009, at Clark Memorial Hospital.

She was born Dec. 1, 1941, in Barren County, the daughter of Lee Otis and Lucille Morgan Hiser. Mrs. McCutcheon was a retired cook of the Greater Clark School System and an Avon representative. She was a member of the Pleasant Ridge Baptist Church in Charlestown and enjoyed square dancing.

She is survived by her husband, Richard McCutcheon; daughter, Connie Sue Murphy (Michael), Jeffersonville, Ind.; sons, Brian McCutcheon (Alma), Jeffersonville, and Anthony McCutcheon (Nichole), Charlestown; brothers, Harold, Robert “Bob,” Ray Lewis and Cecil Hiser, all of Barren County, and James Hiser, Butler County; sisters, Pat Gentry and Brenda Beck, both of Barren County; and six grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents, brother, Richard Hiser; and an infant son, John Douglas.

Funeral services will be 1 p.m. EST Saturday, Dec. 12, 2009, at Grayson Funeral Home, Charlestown, Ind., with burial in Old Union Chapel Cemetery in Sulphur, Ind. Visitation will be Friday from 1 to 8 p.m. and after 9 a.m. Saturday until time of service.



Randy Richardson

MUNFORDVILLE — Randy Richardson, 67, passed away Monday, Dec. 7, 2009, at the University of Louisville Hospital.

He was a Hart County native, retired pipe fitter for Local Union 522, co-owner of Richardson’s Carpet and Furniture in Rowletts, a member of the Baptist faith and attended Rowletts Baptist Church. Mr. Richardson was a member of the Munfordville Lions Club where he served as present secretary/ treasurer, past district governor, past district secretary/ treasurer and many other offices at the district and state level. He was a former eye trustee for the Kentucky Lions Eye Foundation and was named Lion of the Year many times and received the Presidents’ Appreciation Award in 2006.

He was preceded in death by his parents, C.W. (Boob) Richardson, Marie Robertson Richardson and his father-in-law, Jesse Ramsey.

Survivors include his wife: Anita Ramsey Richardson of Munfordville; two sons: Steven Richardson and wife Michelle of Rowletts, and Timmy Richardson and wife Stephanie of Munfordville; eight grandchildren: Kyle Richardson, Dawn Richardson, Ryan Richardson, Chloe Richardson, McKayla Richardson, Chris Richardson, Nick Richardson and Caitlyn Richardson; one great-grandson: Fredrick Eugene; sister: Kathy Eiler of Munfordville; brother: Don Richardson and wife Anna of Liberty; mother-in-law: Lillie Ramsey of Cub Run; several uncles, aunts, nieces, nephews, brothers-in-law, sisters-in-law and cousins.

Funeral services will be 1 p.m. Friday, Dec. 11, at the Rowletts Baptist Church with burial in Horse Cave Municipal Cemetery, under the direction of Winn Funeral Home, Horse Cave. Visiting hours are Wednesday, 3:30 to 9 p.m. at the funeral home; Thursday, 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. at the funeral home; and Friday, 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the church.

Donations may be given to the Munfordville Lions Club.

Charles ‘Ben’ Seeley

GLASGOW — Charles “Ben” Seeley, 66, died Monday, Dec. 7, 2009, at his residence.

A native of California, he was a son of the late Jewell and Jeanice Christianson Seeley. He was a truck driver and attended First Christian Church of Glasgow.

Survivors include his wife, Dr. Martha Seeley; his nine children: Mary Stockler of Glasgow, Sarah Seeley-Dick (Justen) of Knoxville, Tenn., Joe Seeley (Ashley) of Glasgow, Rebecca Sax (Carl) and Elizabeth Zheng (Kai), all of Sacramento, Calif., James Seeley, Matthew Seeley (Nashira), John Seeley and Deborah Seeley, all of Glasgow; a special great-nephew, Charlie Seeley of Glasgow; one brother, Scott Seeley of Adair County; three sisters: Katie Kerr of Arizona, Deedee Herrman of Goodlettsville, Tenn., and Carol Ludgate of Bethpage, Tenn.; 10 grandchildren; two step-sisters; three step-brothers; several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Friday at Hatcher & Saddler Funeral Home with burial in the Seeley Family Cemetery at Breeding. Visitation will be after 4 p.m. Thursday and after 9 a.m. Friday at the funeral home.

GLASGOW — Verna Jewell Denton, 91, died Monday, Dec. 7, 2009, at a local nursing facility. Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Thursday at Hatcher & Saddler Funeral Home with burial in Glasgow Municipal Cemetery. Visitation will be from 2 to 8 p.m. today (Wednesday) at the funeral home. In keeping with Verna’s love of cats, it is suggested that donations be made to Barren River Animal Welfare Association.



GLASGOW — Betty Jane Gantz, 84, died Monday, Dec. 7, 2009, at NHC Healthcare in Glasgow. Mrs. Gantz chose cremation. There will be a visitation time with the family today (Wednesday) from 4 until 8 p.m. at A.F. Crow & Son Funeral Home. The family will hold a private graveside service at the Glasgow Municipal Cemetery. Expressions of sympathy may be made to Community Medical Care or your favorite charity.



GLASGOW — Stanley E. Reneau, 91, died Monday, Dec. 7, 2009, at his home. Funeral services will be 2 p.m. today (Wednesday) at A.F. Crow & Son Funeral Home with burial in Happy Valley Memorial Gardens. Alternate expressions of sympathy may take the form of memorial contributions to either the Columbia Avenue Church of Christ Memorial Fund or T.J. Samson Hospice.
