Dorothy Evelyn Davis

GREEN COUNTY — Mrs. Dorothy Evelyn Davis, 88, passed away on Saturday, Jan. 2, 2009, in Glasgow at the Barren County Health and Rehab.

Survivors include a son and daughter-in-law: Thomas W. and Betty Davis of Glasgow; two grandchildren: Bryan Thomas Davis of Iowa and Anne Paige Robinson and her husband Timothy of Elizabethtown; two great-grandchildren: Jack Thomas Robinson and Emma Elizabeth Robinson, both of Elizabethtown; three sisters: Ruth Channey Judd of Greensburg, Rosa Younger of Indiana and JoAnn Pepper of Glasgow; two brothers: Glen Pepper of Campbellsville and Eugene Pepper of Greensburg; and a host of other relatives and friends.

The funeral service for Mrs. Dorothy Evelyn Davis will be conducted Tuesday, Jan. 5, 2010, at 2 p.m. CST at Cowherd and Parrott Funeral Home with burial to follow in Judd Cemetery.

Family requests visitation from 4-8 p.m. CST on Monday at Cowherd and Parrott Funeral Home in Greensburg.



John T. Peden

GLASGOW — John T. Peden, 85, died Saturday, Jan. 2, 2010, at T.J. Samson Community Hospital.

Born in Barren County, he was the son of the late Josh and Florence Walker Peden. Mr. Peden was a graduate of Tompkinsville High School in 1940, a veteran of World War II serving in the United States Army 78th Division, H & S Co. 303 Engineering BN and a member of the Freedom Team U.S. Army. He was also a private, commercial and instrument rated pilot, retired from Handmachers of Glasgow on May 17, 1973, with 27 years and president of Peden Service, Inc.

He was a Kentucky Colonel, a member of TPA, Barren River Rod and Gun Club and a Bronze Leader in the DAV Commanders Club. He was on the board of directors of Kentucky Trapshooter league, an ATA alternate delegate, ATA delegate, first vice president and president. John was inducted into the Kentucky Trapshooter Hall of Fame in 1979. His other hobbies included traveling, hunting and fishing.

Survivors include his wife, Elizabeth Smith Peden of Glasgow; a daughter: Nikki L. Norman (L.C.) of Beverly Beach, Fla.; a sister: Imogene Bowman-Howard; four nieces: Betty Shelman (David), Faye Patton (Dr. Marcus Patton), Glenda Mutter (Bruce) and Sandra Simmons; sisters-in-law: Violet M. Davis (Roy Lee), Carolyn Harper (Buddy), Sarah A. Shaw (Joe), Janie R. Shaw (Franklin), Sue Forrest Chapman (Herb), Judy F. Young (Charles) and Gladys P. Spillman (Richard); brothers-in-law: Numia H. Smith (Diana), James T. Smith (Jane), Larry M. Smith (Cathy), Terry E. Smith (Melissia) and Leslie D. Smith; several other nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews also survive.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two sisters, Mary Catherine Bartley (Lester) and Fannie Bell Smith (Jack); and two brothers-in-law, Lovell Bowman and Bronston Howard.

Graveside services will be 1 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 6, 2010, at Glasgow Municipal Cemetery. Mr. Peden chose cremation. A.F. Crow & Son Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Alternate expressions of sympathy may take the form of memorial contributions to the American Heart Association, American Cancer Society or Kosair Charities.

Jean Harlow Pardue

HOPKINSVILLE — Jean Harlow Pardue, 75, died Sunday, Jan. 3, 2010, at Christian Health Center.

Services will be 11 a.m. Wednesday, Jan. 6, at Hughart & Beard Funeral Home in Hopkinsville, with the Rev. Dr. Rodney Travis officiating. Burial will follow in Riverside Cemetery. Visitation will be Tuesday from 4 until 8 p.m. at the funeral home.

A native of Eighty Eight, she was born April 24, 1934, the daughter of the late Charles Perry Harlow and Geneva Bushong Harlow. She was a homemaker and a member of First Baptist Church in Hopkinsville.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband: Robert Eugene Pardue, who died Sept. 1, 2002; and two brothers: Charles Harlow Jr. and Jerry Lynn Harlow.

Survivors include a son: Steve Pardue of LaGrange, Ga.; two daughters: Debbie Bushong of Paducah, and Sheila Gates of Princeton; a brother: Mike Harlow of Glasgow; six sisters: Evie Lee Tharp, Yvonne Lewis and Annette Simmons, all of Glasgow, Charlene Curtis of Bowling Green, Sue Billingsley and Nancy Harbold, both of Hopkinsville. She is also survived by five grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

Beatrice Grace Peers Perkins

KINO — Beatrice Grace Peers Perkins, 95, died Friday, Jan. 1, 2010, at her home.

She was a homemaker and a daughter of the late Dee W. and Elizabeth Polson Peers. She was a member of the Lick Branch Cumberland Presbyterian Church.

She is survived by one daughter: Barbara Hood of Eighty Eight; three sons: Charles (Helen) Perkins, Donnie (Carolyn) Perkins and Ronnie (Rendy) Perkins, all of Glasgow; seven grandchildren: Vince Hood, Angela (Allen) Gillon, Mickey Perkins, Mica (Michael) Dubree, Brittney (Larry Dale) Martin, Trigg Perkins, Molly (Brian) Caswell; two step-grandchildren: Lisa (Harry) Fosdick and Chad Kinser; eight great-grandchildren and three step-great-grandchildren.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Roy Perkins; son: Willard Perkins; son-in-law: Joe Hood; five brothers: Earl, Leo, Paul, Willie, Otha Peers; and two sisters: Lillie Ritter and Hattie Kinser.

Funeral services will be Monday, Jan. 4, 2010, at 1 p.m. at the Lick Branch Cumberland Presbyterian Church with Brother Randall Gray officiating. Burial will follow in the Summer Shade Cemetery. McMurtrey Funeral Home, Summer Shade, is in charge of arrangements.



Ruby V. Ray

PARK CITY — Ruby V. Ray, 88, died Friday, Jan. 1, 2010, in Park City.

She was born in Monroe County, the daughter of the late Edgar Moore and Azzie Emmert Moore. She was a member of Cedar Springs United Baptist Church and a cook for Park City school.

Survivors include three sons: James Leroy Ray (Ellen) of Brownsburg, Ind., Kenneth Wayne Ray (Melody Sue) of Park City, and Steve Ray (Sandy) of Park City; two daughters: Linda Adwell (Howard) of Glasgow, and Brenda Ray (Rodney) of Park City; four brothers: Charles Moore of Louisville, Gene Moore of Glasgow, Bob Moore of Illinois and Barlow Moore of Louisville; four sisters: Reva Parker of Park City, Nelda Geralds of Florida, Wilma Tipton of Michigan and Lou Hood of Illinois; seven grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. She was also preceded in death by her husband, James Luther Ray; one grandson, James Michael Ray; two brothers, Cecil and Ernest Moore; and one sister, Pearl Birge.

Funeral services will be 2 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 5, 2010, at Patton Funeral Home, Park City Chapel, with burial in Evergreen Cemetery. Visitation is from 3 until 9 p.m. Monday, Jan. 4, and 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 5, at Patton Funeral Home, Park City Chapel.

Velma Delk Shaw

GLASGOW — Velma Delk Shaw, 92, died Saturday, Jan. 2, 2010, at Glenview Healthcare Facility in Glasgow.

Born in Barren County, she was the daughter of the late Roshia and Lottie Tolle Delk and wife of the late Silas Bratton Shaw. Mrs. Shaw was a member of Lick Branch Cumberland Presbyterian Church.

Mrs. Shaw is survived by a son: Joseph Shaw (Sarah) of Glasgow; four grandchildren: Alan Shaw (Jennifer), Kay Ramsey (Tearle) and Lou Shaw, all of Glasgow, and William Gosnell (Kristie) of Austin; four great-grandchildren: Marichen Lehman, Elizabeth Gosnell, Katie Gosnell and Jacob Thomas Gosnell; a brother-in-law: Leo Underwood of Lawrenceburg, Tenn.; two sisters-in-law: Frances Shaw of Three Rivers, Texas, and Nell Shaw Piercy of Glasgow; six nephews: Rex, Jimmy and Joe Underwood, all of Lawrenceburg, Tenn., Franklin and Billy Joe Shaw, both of Glasgow, and Donnie Brown of Three Rivers, Texas; five nieces: Verda Biggers of Glasgow, Dena Smithson and Cherry Watson of Louisville and Jackie Gore and Sheila Gosnell of Florida; several other friends and relatives also survive.

In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by a daughter, Judy Gosnell; a sister, Christine Underwood; and a niece, Joyce Brown.

Funeral services will be 10 a.m. Wednesday, Jan. 6, 2010, at A.F. Crow & Son Funeral Home with burial in Lick Branch Cemetery. Visitation will be after 5 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.
