Ruth Elaine Burdette

Elizabethtown — Ruth Elaine Burdette, 85, formerly of Munfordville, died Sunday, Jan. 3, 2010, at her home.

She was the daughter of the late Leo and Genevieve Rohr Sigler and wife of the late Fred Burdette.

Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Wednesday, Jan. 6, at St. Benedict Catholic Church in Wax with burial in St. Benedict Catholic Church Cemetery. Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. today (Tuesday) at Brooks Funeral Home, Munfordville. There will be no visitation on Wednesday prior to the service.



Alicia Corie Cook

GLASGOW — Alicia Corie Cook, 33, died Monday, Jan. 4, 2010, as a result of an automobile accident.

Funeral arrangements are incomplete, but are under the direction of A.F. Crow & Son Funeral Home.



Rev. James Herbert Glover Sr.

GLASGOW — The Rev. Herbert Glover Sr., a native of Glasgow, was the eldest of five children. He was born Aug. 20, 1938, to the late John W. Glover and the late Annie M. (Ferguson) Glover. After spiritual fellowship with his immediate family, he peacefully and joyfully departed to be with the Lord on Thursday, Dec. 31, 2009. James was united in holy matrimony to Helen J. (Hayden) Glover of Park City on Aug. 14, 1958. They were blessed to have five children from this union and reared a niece. Their oldest child, Cynthia A. Glover, preceded him in death.

James attended and graduated from Ralph Bunche High School, Glasgow. At the age of 11, he accepted Christ and joined into fellowship with Hopewell Baptist Church under the pastoralship of the Rev. C.G. O’Bannon. While at Hopewell, he faithfully served in the following under the pastoralship of the Rev. Dr. Fred K. Haynie Jr.: usher member, youth choir, pastor’s chorus, brotherhood chorus, trustee, Sunday School superintendent, deacon and associate minister. He was founder and lead singer of The Gospel Messengers. Under the Union District Association, he served as president of the brotherhood, vice president of Minister’s Council, president/vice president, assistant treasurer of the Congress of Christian Education and he served on the board of directors for Citizens for Gospel Music, Inc. Spiritual accolades: he accepted God’s call to preach the gospel in July 1984 and was licensed and ordained to preach in 1986. He achieved a master’s degree from The Great Commission Theological Bible College of Bowling Green. In October 1988 he accepted God’s call to become pastor of Townsend Grove Missionary Baptist Church. He enjoyed fishing, but his first priority was fishing for the souls of mankind. He greatly enjoyed standing to preach the Word of God and loved the Townsend Grove Church family. He was an orderly at T.J. Samson Community Hospital, night watchman at Kentucky Pants Factory, delivery and floral designer for Modern Florist; maintenance supervisor at New Farmers National Bank/Area Bank/BB&T.; He retired from the banking field in July 2002.

He lovingly leaves behind his wife, Helen J. (Hayden) Glover; three sons: James H. Glover II (Sheila), Kenneth R. Glover (Emma), Timothy W. Glover; one daughter: Patricia L. Offutt (Craig); one niece: Tenita G. Whitney (Bruce); two brothers: John C. Glover (Shirley) and William R. Glover (Alma); two sisters: A. Lucille Glover and Shirley L. Whiteside (Melvin); one sister-in-law: Geneva Amos; and two brothers-in-law: George E. Hayden and William Hayden (Mildred); nine wonderful grandchildren, three energetic great-grandchildren and a host of nephews, nieces and other relatives.

Visitation will begin Wednesday, Jan. 6, from 4 to 8 p.m. at Hopewell Baptist Church, Glasgow. Services will be at the church on Thursday, Jan. 7, at 1 p.m. Rev. Glover will lie in state prior to the service at Hopewell Baptist Church from 9 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. morning of the service. The family asks that non-flower tributes be made to St. Jude Children’s Foundation in honor of their late beloved daughter, Cynthia Glover.



Rose Hinton

NASHVILLE, Tenn. — Rose Hinton, 75, died Saturday, Jan. 2, 2010, at Green Hills Health and Rehab in Nashville.

She was born in Barren County, the daughter of the late Hubert Reagan and Neely Jo Goode Reagan. She was a homemaker and attended the Church of Christ.

She is survived by her husband, Dennis Robinson of Nashville; one daughter: Connie Sissom and husband Curtis of Texas; two sons: Kenny Richey and wife Jodi of Indiana and Joe Hinton and wife Shelly of Nashville; nine grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren and a niece, Linda Bader and husband Norman of Louisville.

She was preceded in death by a sister, Violet (Robert) Bailey.

Funeral services will be 2 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 6, 2010, at A.F. Crow & Son Funeral Home with burial in Poplar Log Cemetery. Visitation will begin at 3 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.

Myrtle M. Morgan

HAMPSTEAD, Md. — Myrtle M. Morgan, 83, formerly of Glasgow, died Friday Jan. 1, 2010, at Green Acres Nursing Home in Gettysburg, Pa.

She was born in Barren County, a daughter of the late Frank and Virgie May Smith Payne. Mrs. Morgan was a waitress and cookie maker with the Nabisco Co. and a member of the Nabisco Bakery Union in Chicago, Ill. She was a member of the Glasgow Church of God.

Survivors include a daughter: Shirley Rill of Hampstead, Md.; a son Buddy Morgan of Westminster, Md.; two sisters: Aline Lowe and Erma Finn, both of Glasgow; five grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by seven brothers and sisters, Paul Payne, Ohmer Payne, Mable Wolfe, Marie Lowery, Maymie Payne, Ollie Thomas and Marion Payne.

Graveside funeral services will be 3 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 6, 2010, at Glasgow Municipal Cemetery. There will be no visitation.

Phillip Tooley

GAMALIEL — Phillip Tooley, 56, died Sunday, Jan. 3, 2010, at Norton Hospital in Louisville.

He was the son of Morris Cecil Tooley of Tompkinsville, who survives. Other survivors include his wife, Patricia Tooley of Gamaliel.

Funeral services will be Wednesday, Jan. 6, at 2 p.m. at Yokley-Trible Funeral Home, Tompkinsville, with burial in Moss Cemetery. Visitation is after 3:30 p.m. today (Tuesday) at the funeral home.

GREEN COUNTY — Mrs. Dorothy Evelyn Davis, 88, passed away on Saturday, Jan. 2, 2009, in Glasgow at the Barren County Health and Rehab. The funeral service will be conducted today (Tuesday) at 2 p.m. at Cowherd and Parrott Funeral Home with burial in Judd Cemetery.



HOPKINSVILLE — Jean Harlow Pardue, 75, , died Sunday, Jan. 3, 2010, at Christian Health Center. Services will be 11 a.m. Wednesday at Hughart & Beard Funeral Home in Hopkinsville, with burial in Riverside Cemetery. Visitation will be today (Tuesday) from 4 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made to the First Baptist Church Building Fund, 1400 S. Main Street, Hopkinsville, KY 42240.



GLASGOW — John T. Peden, 85, died Saturday, Jan. 2, 2010, at T.J. Samson Community Hospital. Graveside services will be 1 p.m. Wednesday at Glasgow Municipal Cemetery. Mr. Peden chose cremation. A.F. Crow & Son Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements. Alternate expressions of sympathy may take the form of memorial contributions to the American Heart Association, American Cancer Society or Kosair Charities.



PARK CITY — Ruby V. Ray, 88, died Friday, Jan. 1, 2010, in Park City. Funeral services will be 2 p.m. today (Tuesday) at Patton Funeral Home, Park City Chapel, with burial in Evergreen Cemetery.



GLASGOW — Velma Delk Shaw, 92, died Saturday, Jan. 2, 2010, at Glenview Healthcare Facility in Glasgow. Funeral services will be 10 a.m. Wednesday at A.F. Crow & Son Funeral Home with burial in Lick Branch Cemetery. Visitation will be after 5 p.m. today (Tuesday) at the funeral home.
