Blond Duvall

GLASGOW — Blond Duvall, 82, died Wednesday, Jan. 13, 2010, at Glasgow Health and Rehab Center.

Funeral arrangements are incomplete, but are under the direction of A.F. Crow & Son Funeral Home.



Mabel Clark Knisely

LOUISVILLE — Mabel Clark Knisely, 86, formerly of this area, died Tuesday, Jan. 12, 2010, at the Parkway Medical Center in Louisville.

She was a daughter of the late H.P. and Venia Word Clark. She was of the Baptist faith and attended Oak Grove Baptist Church locally. She was born March 8, 1923, in Monroe County, was a graduate of Temple Hill High School and attended business school at Western Kentucky University. She moved to Louisville in the 1950s and served as a bookkeeper for the Paddock Car dealership for several years. She was a Kentucky Colonel and a former secretary of the Kentucky Jockey Club.

She is survived by a niece, LaNetta Clark (Lonnie) Little of Scottsville; a great-nephew, Alex Nelson Belcher of Nashville, Tenn.; and a sister-in-law, Neva Poland Clark of Glasgow; a special friend, Betty Conner of Louisville.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Clarence J. Knisely; and a brother, Marshall Lyn Clark.

Funeral services will be Thursday, Jan. 14, at 1 p.m. at McMurtrey Funeral Home, Summer Shade, with Brother Allen Berryman officiating. Burial will follow in Happy Valley Memorial Gardens in Glasgow.

Visitation will be Thursday, Jan. 14, from 10 a.m. until funeral time at the funeral home.

Expressions of sympathy may take the form of donations to Juvenile Diabetes Foundation, 133 Evergreen Road, Louisville, KY 40243-1478; or The American Cancer Society.



Mary Ann Nichols

HORSE CAVE — Mary Ann Nichols passed away Tuesday, Jan. 12, 2010, at Hardin Memorial Hospital in Elizabethtown.

She was born in Monroe County, was a retired postal clerk for the Horse Cave Post Office, a member of Rowletts Baptist Church and attended Horse Cave Baptist Church. She was also a member of the Horse Cave Women’s Club and loved to work in her flower garden.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Hall and Clara Crabtree Graves.

Survivors include two daughters: Terri L. Hamilton of Nashville, Tenn., and Kim Poynter and husband Greg of Cave City; two grandchildren: Travis and Kirston Poynter of Cave City; two brothers: Robert Graves and wife Virginia of Powell, Tenn., and Timothy Graves and wife Sherri of Tompkinsville; one sister: Margie Hart of Gatlinburg, Tenn.; and several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be conducted 11 a.m. Thursday, Jan. 14, in the chapel of Winn Funeral Home, Horse Cave, with burial in Horse Cave Municipal Cemetery. Visitation will be from 4:30 until 8 p.m. today (Wednesday) and after 8 a.m. Thursday at the funeral home.

Donations may be given to the American Lung Association.

Charles R. Peterson

GLASGOW — Charles R. Peterson, 61, died Tuesday, Jan. 12, 2010.

Vada Glynn Saltsman

GLASGOW — Vada Glynn Saltsman, 74, died Tuesday, Jan. 12, 2010, at The Medical Center at Bowling Green.

Violet Carrie Young Wood

GLASGOW — Violet Carrie Young Wood, 86, died Monday, Jan. 11, 2010, at the home of her son and daughter-in-law in Burkesville, surrounded by her two sons and family.

She was born in Bluff Head Cove, Newfoundland, on March 30, 1923. Violet was the eldest daughter of the late Philip F. and Minnie Roberts Young. She was preceded in death by two sisters, Evelyn Piasta and Olive Gullen. She married Donald James Wood in 1941, and he preceded her in death in February of 1977.

She and her family resided in Michigan until the late 1950s, moving to Pompano Beach, Fla., where she lived until five years ago. She belonged to the Pilot International Club for 45 years, having worked as a secretary, clothing buyer and head account manager in banking for many years.

She resided at Highland Ridge Assisted Living in Glasgow until her recent illness with cancer. She loved all the staff there and was sad not to be able to say goodbye to them. Mrs. Wood was a member of First United Methodist Church in Glasgow. She enjoyed reading and keeping in touch with friends on the internet and recently Facebook had become her favorite way to connect with family and friends.

Survivors include her two children: Donald James Wood Jr. of North Carolina and David Wood (Julie) of Burkesville; three granddaughters: Shannon, Carrie and Adona; one grandson: David Wood Jr.; nine great-grandchildren: Lauryn, Rebecca, Kayla, Julie, Sarah, Christopher, Tristan, Beau and Eric; one brother: Sidney Young, and a stepsister, Kathy Williams, both of Michigan.

Funeral services will be 7 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 14, 2010, at A.F. Crow & Son Funeral Home with burial next to her husband in North Forest Lawn Memorial Gardens in Pompano Beach, Fla. Visitation will be Thursday from 4 p.m. until time for the service.

Wesley Clay Woods

FOUNTAIN RUN – Wesley Clay Woods, 22, died Tuesday, Jan. 12, 2010, at the Monroe County Medical Center in Tompkinsville.

He was the son of Robert Woods of Fountain Run, and the late Clara Gosnell Woods.

Funeral services will be Thursday, Jan. 12, at 1:30 p.m. at Strode Funeral Home, Gamaliel Chapel, with burial in Fountain Run Cemetery. Visitation is after 1:30 p.m. today (Wednesday) at the funeral home.

In lieu of flowers, memorials are suggested to Kosair Children’s Hospital.

GLASGOW — Bert L. Brownfield, 87, died Monday, Jan. 11, 2010, at his residence. The “L” stood for Lincoln after Abe. Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Thursday at A.F. Crow & Son Funeral Home with burial in Gamaliel Cemetery with military honors provided by DAV Chapter 20 of Glasgow. Visitation will be after 4 p.m. today (Wednesday) at the funeral home.



GLASGOW — Barbara Ann “Bobbie” Ganter, 71, died Sunday, Jan. 10, 2010, at Barren County Health Care Facility. Funeral services will be 2 p.m. today (Wednesday) at A.F. Crow & Son Funeral Home with burial in Glasgow Municipal Cemetery.



PARK CITY — Harry Lynn “Joe” Perkins, 95, passed away Sunday, Jan. 3, 2010, at Barren County Health Care Center, Glasgow. Visitation will be Saturday from 2 to 5 p.m. at Patton Funeral Home, Park City Chapel, and Sunday from noon until 2 p.m. Services will be 2 p.m. Sunday with burial in the Evergreen Cemetery in Park City. GLASGOW — Jonathan Brent Poore, 33, died Monday Jan. 11, 2010, at Jewish Hospital in Louisville after an extended illness. Funeral services will be 3 p.m. Friday at A.F. Crow & Son Funeral Home with burial in Glasgow Municipal Cemetery. Visitation will begin at 2 p.m. Thursday.
