Progress can be found in numbers

GLASGOW — The Kentucky High School Athletics Association recently released a report on the number of participants in high school athletics programs statewide. The report compiled following the 2011-12 school year stated more than 70,000 students participate in extracurricular athletic programs.

The KHSAA put together a chart comparing participation rates from last school year to 1989-90 school year. The most striking number is in the increase of girls who participate in sports. The number involved had increased from 18,286 to 30,774, while the number of boys had increased from 32,886 to 40,103.
