LETTERS: Special people make bad situation better

GLASGOW — Dear Editor,

My name is Kim Barnett and I live in Morgantown, Ind. My family was visiting in Cave City the weekend of May 22.

On Saturday, May 23, my family and I were involved in a head-on collision on highway 90 in Barren County. I wanted to thank all of the emergency personnel who helped us on the scene that day. And there’s one special person I want to thank and her name was Tammy. I don’t know the last name, but it happened in front of her home. Thank you so much for taking care of me and my children. They were terrified.

My daughter, Autumn, said, “Mommy, she was nice. She took me and Owen up to her house to give us Kool-aid.”

There’s not too many people in this world who will jump in to help a stranger and you did. I thank you to the bottom of my heart and I’ll always remember what you did for me and my family.

Also thank you to all the other people who stopped to help.

Keep our county clean

Dear Editor,

Hi, my name is Molly Williams and I would like to tell you how I feel about people throwing their trash out on the road.

I have been participating in the cash for trash program to earn money for a trip to the National Beta Convention in Florida this month.

My friend and I will be representing Austin Tracy in the T-shirt competition. We picked up trash for five miles on a county road.

I think it is bad when people use the road as their trash can. It is nasty! It is not good for the animals or the scenery.

The next time you are driving down the road and start to throw out your trash, don’t do it. Take care of our planet and keep your trash in the car with you until you can put it in the garbage.

Be a better person and don’t litter.

Now you know how I feel about picking up other people’s trash.

Sheriff’s office does good job

Dear Editor,

We want to take this opportunity to say thank you to the Barren County Sheriff’s Department for their dedication to our community.

In our opinion, the level of expertise and dedication demonstrated by this group of service people has never been surpassed in our 69 years of life in this area.

Chris Eaton’s phenomenal leadership is evident in every aspect of the service of the department. This is the most visible, hardworking, results-oriented group that we’ve been honored to observe in the history of the department as we know it.

A special thank you goes to Steve Runyon for his compassion, service and devotion.

Just one instance involving this force, and from our personal standpoint, involved our 4-wheeler which was stolen from our barn, just within a few feet from our home, on the night of Feb. 11.

Steve’s comment when the incident was reported was for us not to give up — that he would keep working on it. The department would do everything in their power to recover our property.

Within a couple of months, the 4-wheeler was recovered and arrests were made.

It is a great comfort to us in knowing not only that Steve is a committed and enthusiastic serviceman, but also a friend and neighbor.

Keep up the great work, everyone!

  • Americans need to change attitudes

There’s something inherently wrong with this country’s societal standards when a mother is harassed and humiliated for breastfeeding her child in public, while any partial or complete display of the same woman’s breasts in the media or on the street for the purpose of sexual objectification would seem acceptable to many Americans, male and female alike.

  • Redistricting plans equally indefensible

I don’t know how Franklin Circuit Judge Phillip Shepherd will rule in the re-districting case. Nor am I a constitutional attorney, so I can’t say with any authority the maps drawn by the Democratic controlled House to benefit Democrats or the one drawn by the Republican Senate to benefit Republicans are constitutional.

  • Fortis will be good partner

I put shoulder to the wheel in search of photos Thursday morning. First, there was an ancient bread van parked amongst some saplings on the side of which there was a woman’s name painted in white, puffy letters. Whose van might that be and I wonder if it comes with the for sale property?

The digital revolution was supposed to make record-keeping easier and less costly for companies. Therefore it should make things simpler for the public or news outlets seeking open records to find them.
