TOMPKINSVILLE — MEETING: Tompkinsville City Commission
DATE: July 23, 2009
ACTION: Commissioners took the following action: agreed to hire a new city attorney; approve minutes of June special-called meeting; award a bid for recycling; adopted a resolution regarding Kentucky Department of Libraries and Archives retention and disposal schedules for city records; agreed to enter into a contract with Gilbert and Gilbert to complete 2008-09 financial audit; approved an ordinance on first reading to amend the city’s 2009-10 budget; agreed to transfer payroll tax money to fund payment of bills and part of payroll; and agreed to pour cement pad at spec building.
DISCUSSION: Commissioners discussed the following: Recycling program; new animal leash law; natural gas leak survey; nuisance properties; check singing procedures and paycheck distribution; water and sewer rates; bookkeeping; and police department grants.
ITEMS TABLED: Lawn mowers at city park.
CLOSED SESSION: Commissioners met in closed session to discuss personnel and employee matters. Upon resuming their open session, they voted to terminate an employee in the sanitation department and to change the job description of one employee in the maintenance department.

Magistrates told DTF grant offered to Edmonson
Metcalfe County magistrates were notified Tuesday morning that a federal grant offered to the Metcalfe Fiscal Court and the Edmonton City Council has now been offered to another county.

City working to increase revenue
Cave City officials are looking for ways to generate more revenue, whether it be contracting with a neighboring city for trash pickup service or extending the city limits after a accruing a spending deficit of more than $100,000 in the last fiscal year.
