Changes made to Caverna calendar

By GINA KINSLOW

CAVE CITY — Changes to Caverna Independent School District’s school calendar were approved Thursday night by members of the school board.

The school district is rescheduling the four days it missed for flu.

“We are making up for the flu because we are concerned about inclement weather,” said Sam Dick, superintendent. “We are having a preseasonal fall which means we may have a preseasonal winter which could include snow and ice.”

The school district was scheduled to be out Nov. 25 for Thanksgiving break and Dec. 21-22 as part of Christmas break, but due to school calendar changes school will now be in session on those days.

School will also be in session on Feb. 15, which is President’s Day.

“This catches us back up,” he said.

By making up the days now, during the first semester, means the school district won’t have to make up the days in the second semester.

“We hope to preserve spring break,” Dick said. “This will catch us up to our original calendar. We will be getting out in May.”
