Choices keep schedule moving

GLASGOW — As brick and stone work begins to be added to the exterior of the new Glasgow High School, choices for interior surfaces now have to be made to keep the construction schedule moving.

Glasgow Board of Education members were given the opportunity to review materials and finishes for inside spaces of the new building during the regular board meeting Monday night at Highland Elementary.

Kevin Cheek, of Sherman Carter Barnhart architectural firm, presented the board with two different shade options, warm and cool, for finishes at the school. Although “nothing is set in stone” yet, he told members some decisions needed to be finalized.

Cheek explained choices in everything from carpet for the auditorium and media center, to wood finishes for seats, locker colors, and terrazzo floor tile patterns for the board members.

After careful consideration, members decided on the warmer range of colors with darker wood and lots of “Scottie” blue accents throughout the building.

Decisions for the new auditorium included seat fabric and wood type, carpet style and stage curtain fabric. In the main corridors and hallways, blue lockers and lighter-colored tiles intermixed with blue ones were some of the choices made by the board.

There will be a wide mixture of materials used throughout the new school that will be incorporated in surfaces on the ceilings, walls and floors.

Cheek also gave an update on construction progress on the site and showed slides of the different areas of the school.

Board chairman Elaine Richardson asked if the project is still on schedule and was told that it is.

“The building is looking really nice from the new outer loop,” Richardson commented.
