GLASGOW —
The Barren County High School Trojans, for all practical purposes, begin the 2012 football season this Friday when they travel to Bowling Green to visit the Warren Central Dragons.
The Trojans come into the game with a 1-3 record, but that doesn’t really matter as Barren County begins play in District 2, Class 5A when they kick it off at Warren Central. District play is the only way teams can qualify for the playoffs.
‘We’re trying to remain positive with the kids. I know it is tough. The kids are frustrated and the coaching staff is frustrated,” said Barren County coach Jason Esters. “But it is a district game and the real season begins on Friday.”
Kickoff for Friday’s game is scheduled at 7 p.m.
“I thought last week’s loss (to Monroe County) was embarrassing for us. It seems like we’re Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde,” said Esters. “We will play really well for a half and then something not go our way, and we just never recover. And that’s the most discouraging thing right now.
“I am not sure how to overcome the inconsistency we’ve been experiencing. We’re not handling adversity very well. We get our heads down and don’t respond well. For us to win a ballgame, we have to do everything perfect. And when everyone is not on the same page, you don’t execute, things turn up the way it did last Friday night.”
