John Petett, the veteran football coach at Monroe County High School, has been part of many big games, dating all the way back to his playing days. And though he's reluctant to say the Falcons' contest at South Warren High School Thursday night will decide the winner of the second district of Class 3A, the importance of the game could be felt in Petett's voice.
“This is a huge district game for us. The winner will probably have the fast track to the No. 1 seed,” Petett explained. “Neither of us have lost in the district. And I don't think the game is for the district championship, but the winner of Thursday's game should have the upper hand.
“I don't think we feel any pressure going into Thursday night. I think we relish in the opportunity to go down and play in a big game like this. The kids like these kinds of games and have played in them many times. Even this week, I have seen the kids light up a little more because of the importance of this game.”
Kickoff is slated for 7 p.m.
