GLASGOW —
The 2011-12 basketball season was a little frustrating for Cornelius Faulkner and the Caverna High School girls’ basketball team. The Lady Colonels won 12 games last year, a much better result than what they had reached in the past, but Faulkner thought his team didn’t reach its potential. Caverna lost seven games last season by 10 points or less.
So, as Faulkner prepared his team for this season he knew a change had to be made. After all, Faulkner said, “if you do the same thing you always do you’re going to get the same result you always get.”
“The first thing I knew I had to do after the season last year was to get the girls in the gym to get stronger, physically stronger. We have size, but we aren’t strong,” said Faulkner. “We didn’t play as aggressive on both ends of the floor last year like we wanted to and that’s from not being very strong. I do think we got mentally stronger last year, but we could have easily won 17 games last season.”
The Lady Colonels, who open the 2012-13 season on Monday, Nov. 26, at Fort Knox, are eager to get the season started. Tipoff is set for 6:30 p.m.
