HORSE CAVE —
The Caverna Colonels will not advance in the Boys Region 5 All “A” Basketball Classic after they fell to Bardstown’s Bethlehem High School Monday night, 58 – 39.
The Bethlehem Eagles’ Jordan Cooper-Livers went into the contest averaging 22.1 points per game. He hurt his average but he didn’t hurt his team as he scored 14 points to help Bethlehem’s lead scorer, Harrison Rogers, who scored a game high 16. The home court Colonels gave it their all, but in the end Cooper-Livers and Rogers proved too much for Caverna to pull off the victory.
Bethlehem started slow, falling behind 5–4, but quickly put together four straight baskets, including a 3, to capture the lead 13–5 with 1:40 left in the first quarter. The quarter ended 17–9 with Caverna matching the Eagles' 2 baskets with a couple of their own.
The second period started all Bethlehem as the Eagles scored the first 13 points of the quarter. Their lead grew to as much as 21 in the quarter before the half ended with Bethlehem enjoying a 32–14 margin, well on the way to victory.
The second half started like the second quarter with the Eagles scoring nine of the first 11 points of the half. By the end of the 3rd quarter, Bethlehem was ahead 46–24.
