TOMPKINSVILLE —
The Monroe County Falcons turned up their defensive pressure to boiling Wednesday night when they battled visiting Metcalfe County in the first round of the All ‘A’ Region 4 Boys Basketball Classic.
The Falcons jumped to an early lead and never looked back as they pressed, pressed and pressed their way to a 67-22 victory.
“We wanted to come out and play good solid man-to-man defense tonight,” said Monroe County coach Steve Kirkpatrick. “We wanted to keep Metcalfe County from penetrating the lane. We wanted to take care of the basketball and finish strong around the rim. Basically, we wanted to focus on the things that have been going well for us.”
A lot went well for the Falcons on Wednesday.
Monroe County jumped out to a big advantage early, leading 10-2 midway through the first period and 19-5 at the buzzer. Things didn’t get any better for the Hornets as the Falcons continued to press. Monroe County outscored Metcalfe County 16-8 in the second period to lead by 22, 35-13, at the intermission.
