GLASGOW —
Rookie pitchers Andy Highbaugh, Ellis Wininger and Andrew Hughes combined for a two-hitter Friday night to lead the Barren County Trojans to a 3-0 victory over visiting Cumberland County in the season opener for both teams.
“We threw three freshmen today and they all have potential,” said veteran Barren County coach Johnny Vance. “We’re in a situation where we have three olders guys that are hurt. We have two with arm problems and one that had to have his knee scoped. So, all three of them are out.
“We thought these young guys have the potential to be pretty good some day, so we wanted them to get their feet wet the first game. And they all threw the ball pretty well. They threw strikes and they made them swing the bats.”
