Barren County alumni football game is Saturday

Barren County High School alumni are hosting the fourth-annual alumni football bowl game Saturday. Game starts at 6:30 p.m. at the high school. Anyone wanting to play should be at the school at 5 p.m.

GHS cross country team begins practice Monday

The Glasgow High School cross country team will hold its first practice on Monday.

The practice will run from 6-7 p.m. Meet in the parking lot next to the football field at GHS. Any student wishing to participate must have a current physical.



BCMS fall softball tryouts are slated for Aug. 7-8

Barren County Middle School will hold fall softball tryouts Aug. 7-8 from 3:15-5 p.m. at the high school softball field.

Any girl in the 7th or 8th grade may try out. You must have a current physical in order to do so.

Barren boys soccer alumni game is Aug. 8

The Barren County High School boys soccer alumni games are set for Aug. 8 at the Barren soccer complex.

The junior varsity game is set for 5:30 p.m. and the varsity contest is slated for a 7 p.m. start.



Meet the Scotties set for Aug. 14

Glasgow High School will hold its annual Meet the Scotties night on Aug. 14 at 7 p.m. at the high school football field.

The GHS fall sports teams will be introduced to the public at the event.

Free hot dogs will be served.



Youth soccer begins Sept. 13

The Barren County Family YMCA is hosting a coed soccer league for youth beginning in September.

Age groups for the league are 3-4 years old, 5-6 and 7-9.

The league runs Sept. 13 through Oct. 19. Signs ups begin Aug. 1 and run through Sept. 1.

Practices are Mondays or Thursday nights. Games will be held on Saturday mornings with a few Thursday games as well.

    As Lora Garrett prepares the Glasgow High School swim team for this weekend’s Kentucky High School Athletic Association Region 1 Swimming and Diving Championships in Owensboro, she sees a lot of positives for her team. Meghan Taylor is swimming well in the freestyle and Grayson Reynolds is swimming well, as are a couple of the Lady Scottie relay teams.

    The Caverna Lady Colonels lost a hard-fought battle Tuesday night to John Hardin High School out of Elizabethtown. Caverna lost, 58-50.

    A coach, in any sport, prays for the night when everything comes together for his or her team. In basketball, coaches want their teams to play good defense, rebound and shoot the ball well. When a team can do those three things, and do them well, they’re hard to beat.

    While Glasgow and Metcalfe started off on equal footing Tuesday night, the Scotties ran away with the game in the second half, to end the night 97-49.

  • Barren County boys lose, 84-81

    For 31 minutes and 24 seconds of Tuesday’s game against visiting Russell County, the Barren County Trojans were playing some pretty good basketball. Barren County was shooting well over 50 percent from the field, was playing good stingy defense on the Lakers and, with just 36 seconds remaining in the game, the Trojans were in striking distance, trailing 81-79.

  • Lady Scotties roll past Metcalfe girls

    The Glasgow Lady Scotties won handily on the basketball court Tuesday night with a 71-35 win over the Metcalfe County Lady Hornets. It was a big night for Glasgow, as it was only the second time in the school’s history that the girls’ basketball team won 20 games.
