GLASGOW — Glasgow’s Bulle ties for 10th at Kentucky Open
Glasgow’s Kent Bulle shot a final round of 71 to tie for 10th place in the Kentucky Open at Audubon Country Club.
Bulle shot a three-day total of 211 to finish five strokes behind the winner. He opened with a 70 on Tuesday and shot a 70 on Wednesday.
Tompkinsville’s Jonathan Shaw shot a 152 in two days of play and failed to make the cut. He tied for 99th place.
Trey Bowling of Manchester shot a 206 to win the event. He topped runner-up Andrew Stephens, of Union, by two strokes.
GYS football sign ups run through Tuesday
Area youth can sign up for Glasgow Youth Sports football (tackle and flag) and cheerleading today through Aug. 19.
Sign ups will be accepted Saturday from 9-11:30 a.m. at Highland Elementary School; Monday from 5:30-7 p.m. at South Green Elementary School; and Tuesday from 5-6:30 p.m. at Glasgow Middle School.
The draft will be Tuesday at 6:30 p.m. at Glasgow Middle School. All new tackle players must attend.
There is a $50 registration fee for tackle football, a $35 fee for flag football and a $25 fee for cheerleaders. Proof of insurance must be provided before a child can play. The 24-hour school insurance policy is acceptable.
Players and cheerleaders in Glasgow Youth Sports tackle football must be at least 9 years of age and not more than 13 years of age or beyond sixth grade as of Dec. 1. Due to popularity, junior varsity teams will be continued this year (subject to number of players who sign up).
Players and cheerleaders in Glasgow Youth Sports flag football must be at least 6 years of age and no more than 10 years of age before Dec. 1.
Anyone interested in coaching flag football or sponsoring a cheerleading squad should sign up before Aug. 19.

One last chance
As Lora Garrett prepares the Glasgow High School swim team for this weekend’s Kentucky High School Athletic Association Region 1 Swimming and Diving Championships in Owensboro, she sees a lot of positives for her team. Meghan Taylor is swimming well in the freestyle and Grayson Reynolds is swimming well, as are a couple of the Lady Scottie relay teams.

The Caverna Lady Colonels lost a hard-fought battle Tuesday night to John Hardin High School out of Elizabethtown. Caverna lost, 58-50.

A coach, in any sport, prays for the night when everything comes together for his or her team. In basketball, coaches want their teams to play good defense, rebound and shoot the ball well. When a team can do those three things, and do them well, they’re hard to beat.

Glasgow boys dump Hornets
While Glasgow and Metcalfe started off on equal footing Tuesday night, the Scotties ran away with the game in the second half, to end the night 97-49.

Barren County boys lose, 84-81
For 31 minutes and 24 seconds of Tuesday’s game against visiting Russell County, the Barren County Trojans were playing some pretty good basketball. Barren County was shooting well over 50 percent from the field, was playing good stingy defense on the Lakers and, with just 36 seconds remaining in the game, the Trojans were in striking distance, trailing 81-79.

Lady Scotties roll past Metcalfe girls
The Glasgow Lady Scotties won handily on the basketball court Tuesday night with a 71-35 win over the Metcalfe County Lady Hornets. It was a big night for Glasgow, as it was only the second time in the school’s history that the girls’ basketball team won 20 games.

Lindsey leads Caverna over Monticello
Dearrick Lindsey scored 23 points Monday night to lead the Caverna Colonels to a 55-46 victory on the road at Monticello.
