GLASGOW — The Glasgow boys soccer team opened with a solid first half before falling to Franklin-Simpson 4-0 on Tuesday night in the season opener for both teams.
The Scotties held the Wildcats scoreless in the first half before giving up four second-half goals.
“Being as young as we are, I think it was a good experience,” Glasgow co-head coach C.J. Zettlemoyer said. “We know now as a team what we have to do get better defensively midfield wise. Nowhere to go but up, I guess. All in all it was good.”
After keeping Franklin-Simpson out of the net in the first half, depth caught up with the young Scotties in the second half.
“I think depth had a lot to do with it,” co-head coach Garnett Bale said. “We’re not as deep as other teams. It’s hard for us to sub in and out as regularly as other teams are able to do.”
“Half our team plays JV, so to get them out there and let them be physical with the older kids was good,” Zettlemoyer added. “I think we handled the physicality of the varsity level very well today. All in all, I can’t harp on anything too hard.”
Tuesday was also the first match for both Bale and Zettlemoyer as Scottie coaches.
“It’s a good learning experience for us, dealing with things that you might not have expected at the very beginning of the game,” Bale said. “Now we’ll be more aware and we’ll know what to expect a little bit more.”
The Scotties are back in action Thursday when they host Greenwood at 7 p.m.
