Lady Scotties defeat Clinton

The Glasgow volleyball team picked up its fifth win of the season with a 2-1 victory at Clinton County on Thursday.

The Lady Scotties won the first game 25-21 and fell in the second game 25-20. Glasgow took game three 25-20 to earn the win.

Glasgow (5-4) travels for a district match at Allen County-Scottsville on Monday.



Edmonson 2, Barren 0

Barren County dropped a 2-0 district match at Edmonson County on Thursday.

The Trojanettes fell 25-15 and 25-18.

Barren returns home Monday to face Monroe County.



Green 2, Caverna 0

Caverna lost to Green County 2-0 in volleyball action on Thursday.

The Lady Colonels hung around in game one before falling 25-21. They lost the second game 25-7.

Caverna is back in action Monday at Adair County.



Monroe 2, Russell 0

Monroe County improved to 7-2 on the season with a 2-0 win over Russell County on Thursday.

The Lady Falcons won a close 25-22 battle in game one before rolling to a 25-9 game two win.

The Lady Falcons return to play Monday at Barren County.



Girls golf

Glasgow edged out Allen County-Scottsville to win a 9-hole match on Wednesday.

The Lady Scotties won by nine strokes, 173-182.

Kristen Wilkinson and Blair Dennison each shot a 40 to pace Glasgow. Shannon Bishop shot a 44, Kylie Foushee had a round of 49 and Ashton Foushee added a round of 51.

Taylor Phelps shot a 65, Emily Alexander had a 71 and Courtney Scoby rounded things out with an 84.

Glasgow returns to play Saturday in the KIT in Russell Springs.



Boys soccer

Barren County moved to 2-0 with a 4-1 win at Muhlenberg North on Thursday night.

The Trojans face Berea today at Pulaski County in the Hyundai Challenge Pulaski Cup.



LaRue 3, Monroe 0

Monroe County dropped a 3-0 home match to LaRue County on Thursday.

The Falcons return to play Tuesday against Monticello.



Girls soccer

Monroe County lost 6-0 at LaRue County on Thursday.

The Lady Falcons are back in action Sept. 2 at home against Taylor County.

  • One last chance

    As Lora Garrett prepares the Glasgow High School swim team for this weekend’s Kentucky High School Athletic Association Region 1 Swimming and Diving Championships in Owensboro, she sees a lot of positives for her team. Meghan Taylor is swimming well in the freestyle and Grayson Reynolds is swimming well, as are a couple of the Lady Scottie relay teams.

    A coach, in any sport, prays for the night when everything comes together for his or her team. In basketball, coaches want their teams to play good defense, rebound and shoot the ball well. When a team can do those three things, and do them well, they’re hard to beat.

  • Barren County boys lose, 84-81

    For 31 minutes and 24 seconds of Tuesday’s game against visiting Russell County, the Barren County Trojans were playing some pretty good basketball. Barren County was shooting well over 50 percent from the field, was playing good stingy defense on the Lakers and, with just 36 seconds remaining in the game, the Trojans were in striking distance, trailing 81-79.

  • Lady Scotties roll past Metcalfe girls

    The Glasgow Lady Scotties won handily on the basketball court Tuesday night with a 71-35 win over the Metcalfe County Lady Hornets. It was a big night for Glasgow, as it was only the second time in the school’s history that the girls’ basketball team won 20 games.
