GLASGOW — Post season begins today for area teams.
District soccer and volleyball tournaments begin today as the girls 8th district soccer tournament gets underway as Glasgow takes on Warren East at Greenwood. The match is set for a 6 p.m. start.
Monroe County faces the host Lady Gators Tuesday at 5:30 p.m. while Barren County will face Warren Central at 7:30 p.m.
Glasgow (6-11) won its regular season meeting against East, 3-2, on Sept. 18 in Glasgow. East is 4-9 on the year. The Glasgow/East winner takes on Bowling Green Thursday in a 5:30 p.m. semifinal tilt.
Monroe (0-12) has to face a Greenwood squad which has given up just 12 goals on the season. The Lady Falcons lost 10-0 to the Lady Gators back on Sept. 8.
Barren (5-8-2) lost its previous meeting against Central in the two team’s first match of the year, 10-0, on Aug. 19. Central (13-3-1) has losses to Bowling Green, Greenwood and John Hardin on the year.
The winner of the Monroe/Greenwood match faces the winner of the Barren/Central match in Thursday’s second semifinal, which is set for 7:30 p.m. The tournament final is Saturday at 3 p.m.
Area boys soccer teams open the 8th District Tournament Tuesday at Bowling Green High School. Glasgow faces the host Purples at 5:30 p.m. while Barren County faces off against Monroe County at 7:30 p.m.
The Scotties (5-13) seek revenge against the Purples (12-2-2) for a 9-0 defeat on Sept. 20 in the teams’ previous meeting.
The Trojans and Falcons have matched up twice already this season, with Barren coming out with a blowout win each time. The Trojans (13-5) won 9-0 on Aug. 19 and 10-1 on Sept. 5. Monroe (4-11) has won three straight entering Tuesday’s match.
The winner of the Glasgow/Bowling Green tilt faces the winner of the Barren/Monroe match Thursday at 7:30 p.m. in the semifinals. The tournament finals are set for noon on Saturday.
The 13th District volleyball tournament gets underway Tuesday at Barren County High School.
The host Trojanettes open up with Allen County-Scottsville at 5:30 p.m. while Glasgow takes on Edmonson County at 7 p.m.
Barren is 0-2 in a pair of close matches against Allen this season. The Trojanettes (7-19) lost at Allen 25-21, 15-25 and 25-21 on Aug. 18 and dropped a home match to the Lady Patriots, 25-20 and 26-24, on Sept. 11.
Allen is 18-14-2 on the season, but has lost six of its last eight matches entering the district tournament.
Glasgow lost two of its three matches against Edmonson this season. The Lady Scotties (19-10) defeated the Lady Wildcats 22-25, 25-21 and 25-19 on Aug. 14.
Edmonson (14-12) topped Glasgow just two days later, 25-21 and 25-17, at the Edmonson County Invitational Tournament. The Lady Wildcats also topped the Lady Scotties 25-16, 20-25 and 25-19 on Sept. 4.
The tournament finals are set for Thursday at 6 p.m. at BCHS.
The 14th District volleyball tournament gets underway Thursday at Metcalfe County. The Lady Hornets (12-17) open play against Clinton County (24-9-1) at 6 p.m. The winner faces Monroe County (16-11) at 7:30 p.m.
The 16th District volleyball tournament gets underway tonight at Caverna.
The Lady Colonels (3-12) take on LaRue County (19-10-2) at 5 p.m., while Green County (28-5) faces Hart County (6-19) at 6:30 p.m. The finals are set for Tuesday at 6 p.m.

Underdogs...
With the likes of softball powerhouses Greenwood, Glasgow, Bowling Green and Allen County-Scottsville in the tournament, the Metcalfe County High School Lady Hornets, winners of the 16th District, are probably heading into next week’s Region 4 Tournament as underdogs.

Another chapter in the Glasgow High School Lady Scotties’ fairy-tale softball season was written Wednesday night as they became the first GHS team since 1996 to claim the District 15 Tournament championship, after beating the tournament’s No. 1 seed and the No. 1 team in the state, the Allen County-Scottsville Lady Patriots, 1-0.

Couldn't give it up...
Until a few weeks ago, Glasgow High School senior Shelby Ray wasn’t sure if she would pursue sports into her college career. Although a standout basketball and softball player, Ray thought it was time for her athletic career to come to a close so she could focus solely on academics in college. But in the end, she said she couldn’t imagine walking away from softball.

After Glasgow High School center fielder Jordan Alexander settled under a fly ball to make the final out of the Scotties’ District 15 Championship game victory over Allen County-Scottsville Wednesday night, he raised his hands above his head, let out a big yell, and took off running to be with his teammates.

Cornerstone
A cornerstone in the foundation that Steven Murphy has used to build the Glasgow High School softball program has been pitching. He believes you start everything with good pitching and then you can build from there.

Season ends
The Barren County Trojans have struggled with their hitting over the last six or seven games of the regular season and unfortunately for the Trojan faithful, the problem arose again for Barren County on Tuesday in the Kentucky High School Athletic Association District 15 Baseball Tournament in Glasgow.

Opportunity knocked
Going into Monday’s baseball game against Glasgow, Monroe County High School coach Jerome Taylor said the Falcons, to have a chance to beat the No. 1 seeded Scotties, would have to take advantage of every one of their opportunities.

The Monroe County Lady Falcons came into the Kentucky High School Athletic Association District 15 Softball Tournament Monday night in Glasgow with a big obstacle in front of them.
