District volleyball, soccer tourneys begin this week

GLASGOW — Post season begins today for area teams.

District soccer and volleyball tournaments begin today as the girls 8th district soccer tournament gets underway as Glasgow takes on Warren East at Greenwood. The match is set for a 6 p.m. start.

Monroe County faces the host Lady Gators Tuesday at 5:30 p.m. while Barren County will face Warren Central at 7:30 p.m.

Glasgow (6-11) won its regular season meeting against East, 3-2, on Sept. 18 in Glasgow. East is 4-9 on the year. The Glasgow/East winner takes on Bowling Green Thursday in a 5:30 p.m. semifinal tilt.

Monroe (0-12) has to face a Greenwood squad which has given up just 12 goals on the season. The Lady Falcons lost 10-0 to the Lady Gators back on Sept. 8.

Barren (5-8-2) lost its previous meeting against Central in the two team’s first match of the year, 10-0, on Aug. 19. Central (13-3-1) has losses to Bowling Green, Greenwood and John Hardin on the year.

The winner of the Monroe/Greenwood match faces the winner of the Barren/Central match in Thursday’s second semifinal, which is set for 7:30 p.m. The tournament final is Saturday at 3 p.m.

Area boys soccer teams open the 8th District Tournament Tuesday at Bowling Green High School. Glasgow faces the host Purples at 5:30 p.m. while Barren County faces off against Monroe County at 7:30 p.m.

The Scotties (5-13) seek revenge against the Purples (12-2-2) for a 9-0 defeat on Sept. 20 in the teams’ previous meeting.

The Trojans and Falcons have matched up twice already this season, with Barren coming out with a blowout win each time. The Trojans (13-5) won 9-0 on Aug. 19 and 10-1 on Sept. 5. Monroe (4-11) has won three straight entering Tuesday’s match.

The winner of the Glasgow/Bowling Green tilt faces the winner of the Barren/Monroe match Thursday at 7:30 p.m. in the semifinals. The tournament finals are set for noon on Saturday.

The 13th District volleyball tournament gets underway Tuesday at Barren County High School.

The host Trojanettes open up with Allen County-Scottsville at 5:30 p.m. while Glasgow takes on Edmonson County at 7 p.m.

Barren is 0-2 in a pair of close matches against Allen this season. The Trojanettes (7-19) lost at Allen 25-21, 15-25 and 25-21 on Aug. 18 and dropped a home match to the Lady Patriots, 25-20 and 26-24, on Sept. 11.

Allen is 18-14-2 on the season, but has lost six of its last eight matches entering the district tournament.

Glasgow lost two of its three matches against Edmonson this season. The Lady Scotties (19-10) defeated the Lady Wildcats 22-25, 25-21 and 25-19 on Aug. 14.

Edmonson (14-12) topped Glasgow just two days later, 25-21 and 25-17, at the Edmonson County Invitational Tournament. The Lady Wildcats also topped the Lady Scotties 25-16, 20-25 and 25-19 on Sept. 4.

The tournament finals are set for Thursday at 6 p.m. at BCHS.
